9 Programs you must have on Windows (edited the 9 became 10)
Hey folks.
Here I'll list my fave Windows tools that must be there for every fresh install.
First of all, and I don't want to number this application since it's a must to have and it very very essential, it's F-Secure Anti Virus.
#1 Eraser
If you have some sensitive data which you no longer need to keep it, Eraser is the answer, it simply securely delete the files/folders. There are many methods being employed, the DoD method (repeating deletion 7 passes) and the Gutmann method (repeating deletion 35 passes).
Download
#2 TrueCrypt
Again, if you have sensitive data on your gear which you need to protect, you should use TrueCrypt
Download
#3 Sophos Free Encryption
You choose which files you want to encrypt and email safely.
Download
#4 7-zip
There's a variety of compression/decompression programs, but this is my favorite one, it's simple, light and efficient.
Download
#5 Infra-Recorder
This is a must to have tool, as the name suggests, it's a utility for burning, creating CDs,DVDs. Simple and user-friendly.
Download
#6 PDF-XChange Viewer
A powerful PDF reader, with many features for the free version and extra features and capabilities for the paid one. It's better than the Adobe (at least to me) since, it's being commonly targeted by the cyber criminals.
Download
#7 Mozilla Thunderbird
An Email client, which has the taste of open-source realm.
Download
#8 Oracle VM VirtualBox
This is the best, free virtual machine program.

I found a new tool called KeePass Password Safe, it's a program to manage your online passwords, you create an encrypted database which holds the auto-generated strong passwords. When you want to try to copy the password, it will be copied easily by either right click that entry or simply use the common Ctrl + C and the clipboard will be cleared after a predefined timeout. P.S.: But make sure to make a copy of the created database.

Driving in #Jordan!! Bad Habits
It's obvious from the title that this is going to talk about the bad habits of "some" drivers in Jordan.
The people of Jordan are well known for their hospitality & generosity. Jordanians love to offer help and support to others and specially the foreigners. For example, when two persons are entering a place, they spend some time arguing who should enter first (of course each one swears of Allah to let the other enters first; to show him some kind of respect).
It's a great habit in us, but all these sweet and kind hospitality disappears when we are seated behind the driving wheels :S
unfortunately this is the case for the majority of the drivers (including me :P), when you are behind the driving wheels, you feel that you should be the first in the line. You can't let anyone pass you, and if someone gives you a look, ohhhhohooo he's sooooo dead!!!!
In fact, there are some "new" rules applied in our driving system, and here I'll mention some..
1) Never let anyone enters the roundabout from the outside!
2)If you are waiting on a traffic light, and it becomes "Green", wait for a few seconds before you march, because even if the opposite traffic light is "Red", some cars will still flow ;) P.S: don't over-wait, or you will be overwhelmed by the horns coming out from the cars behind you.
3)The indicator lights are rarely being used.
4)The horn is your best friend, keep pushing it, specially if you are in a traffic jam.
I am trying to quick these habits, but I can't do it when others keep doing it.
#FSecure is the best antivirus
After trying a number of Anti viruses and Internet Security programs, I figured out that F-Secure, is the best in the market.
I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Kaspersky and a others. But The only one I really trust right now is F-Secure. It's reliable and user-friendly.
Below a screen shot after removing Microsoft Security Essentials and installing F-Secure.

Disable execution from removable storage!
A feature that really amazed me in Windows 7, and maybe in earlier versions, is the ability to disable the execution from the removable storage, so, if you plugged your thumb drive into an infected computer, then plugged it into your Windows 7, virus will infect your computer, at least from the thumb drive.
To do so, go to Start -> mmc, it's preferable to right click mmc and run it as admin.
Click File -> Add/Remove Snap-in and look for Local Computer Policy
Then go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System and choose Removable Storage Access.
Then finally, "Enable" Removable Disks: Deny Execution Access.
Why do I love #Ruby Scripting Language!
I am not an expert in Ruby, but yet, I've made some scripts which automates my life :), I have written a post about the Windows OS Processes Checker, but here I share another script which worth million dollars to me.
I live in Jordan, and I am using an ADSL connection through Orange Jordan. So I constantly need to check my usage and how many gigs are there left.
I used to use the old way. Going to http://www.orange.jo and then looking for the internet usage section and so on. But after learning the basics of Ruby, I have written a small script to automate this.
Note that, this script is only limited to the users of Orange ADSL.

Why do I love #Chrome
Chrome! That awesome Google's piece of code took my breath away from the first moment I installed it and fired it up. The features are just amazing, I know that it's too late to write this, but the other day I decided to make use of the search engine keywords option.
The beauty of this feature is that you can add your non-search-engine websites but yet do the seeking-process for you.
Examples of such websites:
ProcessLibrary
Urban Dictionary
You can whatever you want to the list.
How to add new Search Keyword.
In Chrome, click on the wrench icon, then choose options. The options page should appear in a new tab. Scroll down and choose Manage Search Engines, click it and add your search query.
Mine look like this
To use the new search-engine alike, just type the keyword, in my case facebook, and follow it with a space, then the words to search for.
This is just modest description of this awesome feature.
Code 2600 Officially Complete, Coming Later this Year
403labs:
Code 2600 is an upcoming documentary on the subject of computer and information security. The director, Jeremy Zerechak, was interviewed on a recent episode of PaulDotCom.
This documentary has potential. I’m looking forward to checking it out. You can check out the trailer below or on YouTube.
Belkin G+ Router!
I have bought this router like '4' years ago. After I successfully finished my Tawjihi exams ( Jordanian certificate), so It kinda means something to me. And it's been serving me for the past '4' years, but lately it began acting weird, it keeps disconnecting every few hours and I have to unplug it from the wall's socket and re-connect it again in order to re-work.
I've done a Google search and I found out that "overheating" is the reason. So, I bought a CPU fan and loaded it to the back of the router as follows:
And now it works just fine with me. I know it's not an attractive solution but to me it is "engineery" :P
Processes' Checker
This is a ruby script which checks your current running Windows OS processes; to see if there are any malicious processes running in the background, it's simple to use.
All what you have to do is to fireup the command prompt "cmd.exe" and type "ruby processes_checker.rb --output filename.log" without quotations.
You can run it without the parameter "--output", but it is preferable to associate the script with the parameter for further analysis.
It's a freesoftware and applicable to the GNU-GPLv3 license.
