Moon is roughly based on a cone snail, and Sun is roughly based on a decorator crab!
Y/N is a marine biologist and stumbles upon their cove by accident. At first Sun n Moon are wary, but Y/N is so excited and curious and keeps asking them so many questions and calling them amazing and wonderful and beautiful and keeps coming back to give them food and gifts and like. How is a merm supposed to resist that

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pacific Rim, so I needed to do this.
I'd love to write a fanfic or script about this idea, but since I'm pretty busy with work, I'll just write the main points for now!
FAZCO is a private company contracted by the government to combat the Kaiju after their appearance on the coast over a decade ago.
The mechas are piloted by an animatronic and a human. The animatronic manages logistics and provides real-time data analysis, while the human controls the mecha's movements.
The pilots are treated like celebrities, and FAZCO makes a lot of money from their appearances and endorsements.
The human pilot and the animatronic share a mental link similar to that in Pacific Rim, sharing memories and thoughts.
Sun and Moon were the first attempt to create a mecha that didn't need a human pilot: Project "Crimson Eclipse."
They share the same body, as only one pilot was supposed to be needed. Sun would control logistics, while Moon would control movement.
A mysterious incident caused Moon to become corrupted and cause a disaster before their mecha's official debut.
The DCA was taken offline until FAZCO was forced to restart the project due to a sudden surge in Kaiju. But only Sun was activated; Moon remained dormant to prevent the corruption from spreading.
Project "Crimson Eclipse" would return, this time with a human pilot.
The problem is, no one can connect with Sun. FAZCO tries every qualified employee until finally resorting to lower-level staff.
YN, the newest junior maintenance technician, turns out to be the only suitable candidate. Needing the money, they agree to become the pilot.
However, during their first official battle against a Kaiju, Moon awakens once more.
Now Sun, Moon, and YN will have to learn to work together to fight the Kaiju, keep Moon's awakening a secret from FAZCO, and uncover what happened during the incident that corrupted Moon.
And that's the gist of it! I have some ideas for the design of the other mechs, which would be piloted by the other animatronics and their human partners. And I have a story developing in my head that I hope to write whenever time allows it.
Anyways, if you haven't watched Pacific Rim, go watch it! 10/10 movie.
Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you donât like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lolÂ
a short selection of concepts and phrases that used to be commonplace in fandom and weâd really benefit from making that a thing again:
NOTP: the opposite of an OTP (One True Pairing). It is a ship a fan strongly dislikes. The word is a portmanteau of ânoâ and âOTPâ and thus is not a contraction of any particular phrase.
Squick: anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. Squicks may be shared by many fans or be specific to one; one personâs kink may be another personâs squick.
YKINMKATO, or kink-tomato: Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And Thatâs Okay: used to indicate support for fannish diversity and to distinguish between disapproval or kink shaming and simply having different taste.
DLDR: Donât Like, Donât Read: a phrase used to warn against complaints about an aspect of fic or meta. A âlive and let liveâ philosophy of fandom, which places the responsability for avoiding content one doesnât want to see on the side of the fanwork consumer, rather that on the creatorâs.
SALS: Ship And Let Ship: similar to the above specifically about shipping tastes.
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary: a phrase used to acknowledge that any given individualâs personal opinion on the topic at hand may differ due to their own tastes, standards, values, experiences, etc.
As the OP points out, all of these crucially imply no moral judgment of what theyâre designing.
(definitions lifted more or less wholesale from fanloreâs relevant pages)
Instead you heaved out a weary sigh and met Sun's uncertain gaze. "Soooooo I gotta go out to get supplies and⊠yeah, I'll be gone for a few hours." Removing your winter coat from the little hook next to the back door you pulled your arms through the sleeves and zipped it up. "But I'll be back as soon as I can, I promise!"
Noodle jumped off the table as you stepped towards the darkened living room, and behind you the legs of Sun's chair loudly scraped over the floor as he hurried to get up as well, following after you. Glancing over your shoulder you bit back a wince at the lost expression on his face, growing worry pinching between his brows.
"Tseri ĂĄi ioi voa'er?"
The sickening feeling of guilt crawled up your throat. There was no mistaking the sound of fear in those words, the tremble in his voice, and you hated yourself for being the cause of it. He'd already been through so much, he'd put his trust in you and now you couldn't help but feel you were letting him down. It wasn't your fault or his, he simply didn't understand, but you still felt like a horrible person for putting him through more stress.
Your eyes glided over the couch and Moon's still form under the blanket before you turned on your heel to face Sun fully, and reached out to grab his hands. "It's okay." Comforting people wasn't exactly your forte, let alone comforting a stressed out alien, but you tried to put as much soothing warmth in your voice as you could manage as you gave his warm hands a light squeeze. "Just stay here, alright? I'll be back soon and it will all make sense when I do. Here-" Releasing Sun you bend down to scoop up your cat and pushed her into his hands; he visibly startled as his digits immediately curled around her to keep her from falling, cradling her against his chest, but just as you had expected Noodle settled quickly and didn't seem to truly mind.
"Watch Noodle for me, okay? Keep her company. I promise you'll understand why once I get back."
I didn't know what to do with the background lol. Also, Noodle can be whatever kind of cat you want, this is just how I picture her.
WOW, okay, you guys REALLY like Sealed God Eclipse. Cool cool cool. Totally not screeching into a pillow over all the positive attention, no siree!
Anyway, Iâve been sort of scribbling down ideas for the AU, so here, have some more of the pretty snake-birb!
I havenât nailed down all the important info yet, like you know, plot besides âEclipse invades personal space, Y/N gets flusteredâ lol. This is probably gonna be in development for a LONG time, especially since I have a bunch of other ideas I might get distracted by. But I've nailed down a few ideas!Â
For one, I made Eclipse a god of wind (and maybe also of knowledge but juryâs still out on that one.) It suits him. Wind is chaotic. It can be a calm, cool breeze one minute, and then become a cyclone and bulldoze through towns the next. And you canât really stand against it. You might be able to predict which way it will blow, after a time, and even take advantage of it, but you canât control it or block it. Eclipse isn't really something Y/N can fight, or even predict at first, so they have to learn to go with the flow. Â
Itâs also gonna be important for some backstory elements Iâm working on, mainly Eclipseâs sealing - why it happened, how his imprisonment affected him, etc. Oh, and shenanigan potential. And maybe some warlocky badassery for Y/N depending on how the plot goes, who knows?
Also, thank you to the one commenter who suggested Y/N looking into Eclipse's legends for their motivation for being on the expedition that ends up finding him in the first place! I'm still figuring out details (just like with everything else) but I'll definitely be using that!
Aaaaand some close-ups to top this all off. Just in case haha...
We're starting to spread out in the lab more now. Let's see how that works
words under cut
Solar isnât sure what to make of everybody. Moon is even more quiet than he is, even speaking very rarely and only when addressed. Heâs also extremely impish when given a chance. He sneaks up on people and either whispers âbooâ right next to their ear area or grabs them.
To be fair, Moon never did that to him while he was working. He only did it when Solar was zoning out or just chilling in place. And only if Moon wasnât occupied with the Boss. Hehe, boss.
The Boss was fun. They were very literal, and logical, which Solar appreciated, but they were also very caring when it came to him, Sun, and Moon. It had been about three days since heâd been made, and there wasnât a moment Solar could recall that heâd seen them NOT smiling and trying to make this lab into a more cozy, clean, safe place for all of them. Putting away chemicals, sorting loose ingredients for potions, making sure he and the other two had enough food, all these little efforts that spoke volumes.
But limitations had started being found, and it was making all of them nervous. Solar could do anything with mechanics, wiring, pipes, physical machines in general. But he wasnât so good with computers. He could use them, yeah, but not beyond what Boss could do themselves. Sun was smart, but he absolutely couldnât work a computer more than to maybe send an e-mail. Moon refused to even touch them.
Then there was the problem of what to do when the food ran out. So far, Boss had gone to the grocery store, but it made Sun start having a panic attack because they were gone and might not come back. Solar knew the feeling, having his own anxieties about losing people, but it was hard watching the normally happy gummy slime dribble into a miserable puddle and quiver in place. Moonâs helpless look was also enough to make Solar know what âheart wrenchingâ really meant.
After that, they spent the rest of that day snuggling Sun while Solar and Moon did anything that needed doing. It did make Solar wonder why Sun and Moon slept in the room with Boss and he got his own, but that wasnât his business to ask. It WAS his business to make sure everything in the bathrooms, kitchen, and the main lab worked perfectly, and he had gotten it done quite quickly. He could spend time alone easily if he could just hear one of the others around. Sun humming or Moon snickering while creeping around, maybe Boss singing. They had a nice voice, and Solar thought they should sing more, but he took the rare concerts gladly.
Today, Moon and Boss went on an expedition to the further rooms off to the west of the main lab. They found a pretty spacious greenhouse, the grow lamps just needing new bulbs and the sparse sunlight from the well camouflaged skylights had kept the plants alive but not thriving.
âOkay.â Boss laid out a paper with a basic drawing of the living area. Solarâs own room had his name written in it, and Sun and Moon and Bossâs room said ânestâ on it. Cute. âWeâre going to have to make some new friends to deal with everything. Here are the available rooms, and Iâve written a list of roles that need filling.â
At the edge of the paper, a bullet point list had a few jobs written out:
*Tech expert
*Gardener
*Doctor
*Outing partner
Sun asked about that last one, âWhatâs this mean?â
âWell,â Boss smiled at him and Solar got a feeling there was something brewing between them that he didnât get quite yet, âIf I have one of you guys with me when I go out, they can be my security if something bad happens and help me get heavy things in here if nothing goes wrong.â
Moon pouted, but asked, âNot us? Why?â
âBecause you donât blend in with humans, moonbeam,â ah, that little boop to Moonâs nose was a clue that it wasnât just Sun that Boss was involved with. âWeâd have to make a friend who can mimic the appearance of a human, who knows social cues and can act well so nobody suspects theyâre a slime.â
Finally speaking up, Solar pointed to âgardenerâ and suggested, âWhy donât we start here? If we can get the greenhouse going, we wonât have to buy as much food.â
The others nodded, and Boss grins, âExactly! And right now, I agree we need that gardener most. I wonât have to go out and get things again for a while, and thatâll be when I make our Mimic friend. The doctor and tech guy can come later.â
Solar feels satisfied that his idea was solid, and he follows the others to the main room.
--
Sun watches as his sweetheart works at the controls, and he slips over next to Moon.
âBrother,â Sun whispers, actually lowering his voice so only his twin could hear. âWhat do you think of Sunshine, hm?â
Moonâs looks at them, and Sun sees the way Moonâs gel softens, âLove them. Perfect. Why?â
âI think so, too.â Sun grins and holds out his hand, âI think we should date them.â
âWhatâs date?â Moon looks confused and Sun rolls his eyes.
The machine starts up as their darling is explaining the composition of the new gardener, plant food and a growth potion mixed. âDating is when two or more people decide to spend a lot of time together to see if they want to become mates.â
âoh. Romantic partners, yes?â Moon tilts his head and Sun nods, satisfying his twinâs question. âYes. Agree. We romance them.â
âI thought so,â Sun giggles a bit and settles down next to his twin, âWe ask them after this.â
Both watched as the tube opened and a curvy feminine shape emerged, head shaped with a poof of frosted soft green gel on top, with the blue of the plant food and green of the growth potion marbled across her body. White glowing eyes opened, and a bright, warm womanâs voice came out, âLook at all of you! Itâs wonderful to see you all. My name is Earth, and Iâm so excited to be part of this community.â
Eager to meet the new arrival, Sun slipped up, âHello, Earth! Iâm Sun! Welcome! Weâre so so so excited to have a girl around. What a happy surprise!â
Moon comes up near him, tilting his head, âNameâs Moon. Soft. Perfect for plants.â
âOh, yes, of course!â Earth smiles at them, then looks at Solar, âAnd who are you, friend?â
âSolar,â he waves and smiles as well, âWelcome to the family, Earth. Iâll show you to the greenhouse, since I need to go work on the sprinklers in there. Iâm the mechanic. Moonâs security, Sunâs a cleaner. Boss is boss.â
âDonât call me boss!â whines their cute human, and Sun giggles, âIâm just another person who lives here, honestly. Solar just likes teasing me.â
âI do,â Solar smirks a bit, and Earth laughs softly.
âI see! Well, then Iâm happy to have so many friends. Iâll go deal with the garden, and then we can all have a nice meal together.â
Sun groaned softly, âOh, thatâs exactly what I wanted to hear! Go have fun, and weâll make sure everything is nice for you!â
Moon snickered, âSun thinks with his stomach. Silly.â
âI do NOT!â The twins then started a slap fight while both grin and laugh.
--
Earth was fascinated with everything in her new home. The way the hallways gleamed in the fluorescent lights from how clean Sun had made them, to the quiet growl of Solarâs voice as he explained what each room along the hall was (mostly storage or basic chemistry labs), to the smell of warm soil that flows over her once the greenhouse door opens. It all makes her feel bubbly with excitement.
âSolar,â she asks as he starts working on the sprinkler system overhead, âCan you explain how everybody relates to each other? I donât want to step on anybodyâs territory, after all.â
âWell,â he grunts as he twists a nut off of a bolt, âSun and Moon are twin brothers. Iâm just their friend at this point. Boss is the one who made us all, so we start off loyal to them, but theyâre honestly a great person so itâs easy to keep that. And when a new person gets added, they decide where they stand on their own. So you can be whatever to whoever.â
âThat sounds lovely!â Earth happily flows over the rows of tomato, strawberry, and corn plants, leaving healthy leaves and sprouts in her wake, âDoes our human friend have anything they prefer to be called?â
âNot Boss, obviously,â he chuckles as he runs his bare finger around a pipe before fitting it back into place, âSun calls them his Sunshine, Moon prefers Starlight, but they answer to all of them. Find your own way to think of them and theyâll probably like it if it isnât an insult.â
âThat sounds nice, too. Everybody just finding their own endearment for the person we all care about,â she hummed softly, then glared at a strange beetle that was trying to eat the leaves on a zucchini. âooh, no, you do not get to eat our food, nasty little bug.â She flicked out a tendril from her gel and coated the bug in it, creating a containment bubble around it, âIâll give these pests to Moon later. He goes up to the surface, right?â
âYep,â Solar was hanging off the ceiling and cleaning out a clogged sprinkler nozzle, âhe goes up there to hunt daily. We donât have any meat down here and heâs more coded to need it than the rest of us. Part of the security programming from what I can tell.â
âThatâs good to know. I also have culinary information so dietary restrictions are vital information.â Earth nodded and made her way along the rows. âI wonder why our friend added that for me?â
âProbably because theyâve literally only made the same kind of pasta with two different sauces every day since Iâve been here?â Looking up (down) at her, Solar adjusts his safety goggles, âSun told me theyâve got sensory issues are seem scared of the stove, so...maybe they need help with that and thought youâd be good since you can pick the best ingredients.â
Looking up, Earth gasped and bounced a bit, âReally? Thatâs so adorably sweet of them! Iâd be happy to help them get more comfortable in the kitchen with me. No wonder they seemed so relieved when I opened my eyes. It must be so hard to be uncomfortable with something you have to do multiple times a day.â
âHeh, sounds like Boss, yeah.â Solar seemed happy as he worked, and Earth decided Solar was definitely her best friend. When she got to know Sun and Moon more, sheâd figure out what they were to her, but having at least one connection figured out was satisfying.
--
I come back into the bedroom after getting in my pajamas again and Sun and Moon are both sitting and looking at me. I say sitting, but for them itâs more like theyâre half melted down into the nest and just their torsos and heads are sticking out.
âWhatâs up?â
Sun looks at Moon, who looks at him and waves for him to go on. âAhem, well, Sunshine, Moon and I made a decision to ask you this together, so that we can all three discuss it.â
âGo on?â I have no idea where this is going, but I climb up into the nest and sink into their gel with a sigh of relief. Better than any mattress, Iâll tell you that right now.
âWe wantâŠâ Moon hesitated, and I know itâs hard for him to speak more than a few words. I wish I was better with the machine so he didnât have that hang up, for his sake. âWe love you. Date?â
My whole face goes warm, and I look up at the two of them for a while before asking, âIâm not saying no, but I want to be sure, are you two just asking because of the loyalty programming?â
âNoooooo,â Moon whines and sinks deeper into himself, wrapping his arms around me. âJust a base. Not enough.â
âMoonieâs right,â Sun copies his twin and nuzzles into my hair, âThat programming is meant to just be a base to build on. It stared off as just an employee kind of thing, but you built it with us.â His voice is soft and reassuring, âYou insisted on asking our opinions on our new friends, you let us decide for ourselves what to do and who we are to each other.â
âKind,â Moon murmurs, his face pressed to my stomach. âSweet to us. Gentle.â
âyou treat us like equals, Sunshine,â the brighter twin squeezes my hand with his, âand we both agree that youâre someone weâd like to stay with for a long time. You take care of us, and we take care of you, so it just makes sense we all stay just like this. Wrapped up together and safe.â
I giggle, a little wet in the eyes from happiness and my cheeks hurt from how much Iâm smiling. Moonâs making a little bubbly purring noise, and I canât help squeezing both of them closer, âW-well, if youâre sure, Iâd be so happy to be your date, both of you. Iâve never done anything like this, so itâll be awkward, but Iâm happy to learn with you two.â
âPerfect,â Moon hums, and Sun nods so hard his rays smack him in the face. We all laugh, and spend however long it takes to fall asleep cuddled up tight.
--
Earth was becoming more part of the group pretty easily, but Iâm not surprised. I had put her personality to be open and caring, but capable. Her random quirks were âgirly girlâ and âloves geeseâ which I found super weird, but being fond of birds myself, I shrugged it off. If she liked the juggalo birds, more power to her.
Solar tended to just exist quietly next to her, and she was calling him bestie a week in. Her bubbly positivity with his thoughtful silence made an endearing combination, and Iâm glad they get along because I was a little worried she might overwhelm him.
Sun and Earth titter and share theories about things like two old biddies, which I find hilarious. Sunâs thin wiry figure next to her generous hourglass is a contrast I find pleasant, and her pastel cool colors next to his bright yellow gives a cheery feeling to any room. On the other hand, Moon lurks near her like a particularly protective cat. He puddles in a corner near where Earth and Solar are, and basically follows her around more than Sun and I now.
âToo nice,â he responds when I ask him why heâs doing that. âKeep her safe.â
One time, weâre all in the common room of the living quarters and Iâm trying to set up my computer so I can show them a game I have on it, and as we play, Moonâs doing the lurking behind where Earthâs sitting.
I tease, âLol, Moon, you act like Earthâs your baby sister.â
âSister!â Sun gasps, and Iâm startled as he launches himself against her, looking up at her with his glowing eyes big and wide, âYou wanna be our sister, Earth? You got eyes like mine, and blue like Moon, and we like ya a lot, mmhm! Please?â
Moon does his bubble purr, and I giggle, âThatâs cute.â
Earthâs gel begins to wobble a bit, but then she hugs Sun and Moon (who she pulled over the back of the couch), âIâd love to! Youâre both so nice to me and you take care of me so good! I didnât know what to call it, but thatâs it! Weâre siblings!â
Her voice is a little wet and full of emotion, but itâs all positive and the three of them kind of melt together for a bit. Iâve noticed the slimes do this when theyâre trying to share thoughts or feelings quickly, so it must be some sort of direct connection between their minds or something when they puddle up like that.
What shocks me more is when Earth proceeds to get out of the âhuddle puddleâ and bowl me over with her whole body, âAND YOUâRE MY SIBLING IN LAW! AAAH! IâM SO LUCKY!â
Thatâs the trigger to send Solar guffawing so much he melts into the floor for a bit, unable to hold his shape from how hard heâs laughing.
Gently, I push her off me and smile, âYeah, I guess so. Iâm dating your brothers, so thatâd be the term if we do end up fully together.â
âOops, I overwhelmed you. Sorry, rosie.â
âRosie?â I ask, and she nods as she backs off.
âYeah, well, I was thinking of what to call you. And I thought of Bud, but since Iâm down in the greenhouse that lead to flower buds, which led to roses, and youâre so pretty so youâre my Rose Bud. Right? And thatâs how bud turned into Rosie.â
Touched, I nod and pat her shoulder, âThatâs super cute, Earth. I like it.â
âOkay! Good.â She settles down and we finally manage to pull Solar out of his laughing fit so we can go back to the game.
Well, we've got security and we've got janitorial covered...what's next?
words under the cut
Moon let me out eventually when I woke up from my nap, and I find the two of them have cleaned the largest bedroom in the living quarters for us. The bed itself is king sized, and the boys have arranged it as a kind of nest rather than how a human would make a bed.
âOh, wow, and everything smells so clean,â I look around the room, and Moon huffs.
âCould smell the allergy. No dust. No carpet. Safe for you.â
âHeâs right, sunshine,â Sun gestured at the room, which had wooden furniture and was sparsely decorated with only metal and wood objects, âit might not be fun, but we can paint things to be bright and cheerful later. Your health is first!â
I really want to sink into the pile of blankets, but Iâm covered in sticky Moon spit. âI need fresh clothes and a shower, but then Iâm climbing in there and not moving for several hours.â
âAfter we tell you what we decided,â Sun said in a chirpy tone.
âWhat?â I look between them, and Moon grins.
âTwins.â
âYes, Moon and I decided since we were born on the same day, from the same machine, weâre twins.â
âAlso pranks. Fun.â Moon snickered and Sun sighed.
âAh,â Thatâs cute. They already had that vibe, and now itâs cemented. âCongrats on being brothers, then. Youâre adorable.â
Sunâs cheeks darkened like before and Moonâs lightened to a sky blue, but they both grinned. I giggle and head to the bathroom I can see through a doorway. Taking off my sticky clothes is nice, but then the two of them slide toward the door and I yelp.
âBoys! Stop! What the heck?â
Both slimes stop in place, tilting their heads in opposite directions. Sun is the one who asks, âWeâre gonna follow you? Like always?â
âNo no no, when someone is going to take a shower or poop or whatever in the bathroom, they do it alone. Out.â I push them both, but they donât move.
âSlime in the pipes,â Moon says, pouting, but I continue to try and push them.
âNope. Water. And I wanna be naked alone.â
Sun tilts his head, âMoon and I are always naked. Why do you have to be alone to be naked?â
âCause itâs embarrassing for humans. We only see each other with clothes on and being naked in front of somebody is only for things likeâŠâ I struggle to think of family friendly circumstances, âbeing operated on and...and saunas. Getting a bath as a kid when your parent has to help. That kinda thing.â
Both of them stare at me, then Moon asks, âSo no bath?â
âNot for you two, no. Not unless you get one by yourselves.â I cross my arms and look up at them, very serious about this and probably pink up to my ears.
âAwwwww,â Sunâs rays droop, like the decorations on a melting sundae. âOkay, fine. But as soon as you come out, weâre cuddling.â
âI can accept that if you let me get dressed first.â
âCan do,â Moon leaves, but Sun lingers for a bit trying to convince me with puppy eyes that do nothing. Then he slides away.
Itâs a relief that they at least listen to me. And I get in the shower without further incident.
-
Morning was a slow, groggy thing. It takes me waking up three separate times before I actually have the energy to sit up. My whole body is heavy feeling, but thatâs probably the dust activating my allergies. Sun is busy outside, I can hear him in the common room of the living quarters tidying or something. Moon meanwhile was curled around me still, utterly asleep with his lure on the end of his âhatâ appendage pulsing softly.
I move to get out of the nest on the bed and Moon whines, holding me by the leg, but I shake him off. âI know, Moon. Iâm a night owl, too, but weâve gotta try to make this place more livable if you guys want me to stay here.â
That perked him up, and he yawned, showing lots of those sharp teeth before he got up and brought me with him. âExplore. Find things. Iâll eat them.â
That makes me laugh, and Sun gasps, âYouâre both awake! Yay! Oh itâs so LONESOME when you two arenât up.â
âSorry, Sunny,â I mumble it, but smile. âBut now that the fridge we cleaned out has had time to air out and cool down, I can use it. Weâve done a lot of work in the kitchen, so itâs our best staging area for expeditions.â
Shaking his head in agreement so fast his rays clatter, Sun oozes out the door and calls, âIâll go touch it up and find something good for you to eat!â
Looking up, I ask Moon, âand what are you going to eat, Moon-moon?â I wasnât sure what he was planning to do.
Moonâs grin was slow and very predatory, âMeat. Go hunt.â He then slithered off, fast and silent.
Welp, that was kind of spooky. At least Sun and I have the kitchen cleared already.
Moon comes back well after breakfast is over for Sun and I (with Sun getting through more of the inedible ingredients that still existed). Moon slips in and gurgles happily, nudging me with his head and wrapping himself around the chair Iâm sitting in at one of the many tables while Sun has the other side. There is a large opaque ball in his center, just like Sunâs, and I realize his hunt was successful.
âOh, what did you catch, Moon?â I try to analyze the orb inside him but itâs useless.
âPig. Didnât belong. Mine now.â He sounds pleased with himself, and Iâm pretty happy with it, too.
âGood job, then. Invasive species like feral hogs are really damaging. Now if only you could do that with all the stupid feral mimosa trees around here.â Petting Moonâs lure, I see Sun pout, and I look at him. âYou did good, too, Sun. Youâre helping me stay allergy free as much as possible with the cleaning.â
âIâm glad you noticed,â He giggles and sticks what has to be his tongue out at Moon, who does the same back at him. âAnyway, what are we gonna do today? Explore? Make new friends?â
Moon peeked over the table and said gently, âClean. More safe spaces. Main room probably.â
âThatâs a good suggestion, but I like Sunâs idea, too.â I gesture at the refrigerators and the oven. âThere are a lot of machines in here, and that includes the one I used to make you two. I wouldnât have any idea how to start fixing anything, so maybe making a mechanic is a good idea.â
âYes. Machineâs important.â Moon agrees easily, wrapping around me a bit, âMaybe made of grease? Slip around easier.â
âOkay, but we have to make him smell good. Or at least not bad,â I say, worried.
âUm...how would we do that?â Sun asks, and Moon shrugs. Getting up, I motion for them to follow me. Maybe thereâs filter options on the slime maker that we can use.
-
The boys are looking over my shoulder as I play with the menus on the touch screen for the slime machine.
I go to the âbase substanceâ menu and look around the edges of the screen, but then I look at the keyboard and notice a âmenuâ button above the number pad. Pressing it opens a list and I can navigate it with the filters I wanted.
âOoh, computers are really complicated,â Sun mumbles, âIâm glad youâre the one using it and not me.â
Moon hums in agreement. I find it funny since theyâre both very smart, but I am by far not a computer wizard. Still, itâs nice to be praised for my troubleshooting.
The options for machine-safe oils are numerous, but when I sort by smell (least to most intense) the one at the top of the list is mineral oil. âOh? Thatâs surprising.â
I press that as the base of choice, and then decide it should be colored a bit. Soft brown and orange are appealing, and it will make our new friend stand out against the shiny silver metal. When I put in that I want this slime to be versed in mechanics, electric work, and plumbing, I get a warning that the fluid heâs made of will be flammable and I should make sure to scent him further to increase the likelihood of knowing if his residue is around. I pick maple syrup as the scent to add since thatâs nice, and Sun whines.
âIf he smells like syrup, Iâll be hungry all the time.â
âAre now though,â Moon teases, and the two of them start to chase each other around the room.
I chuckle, putting in that he should have rays like Sun, but soft, made out of his gel instead of crystallized anything. I like how expressive Sunâs are, since it makes it easier to read his face since itâs all slime. Same with Moonâs âhatâ lure.
Calling back to the boys, I ask, âCould you find some goggles and gloves for our new friend? That way he wonât be as likely to get hurt while working.â
That got their attention away from their sibling squabble, and the two went dashing off into corners and closets as I finish up the personality part. I want him to be more serious, I think. Kind of quiet maybe? Gentle unless provoked, then terrifying. That way he can defend himself if he runs into whatever the thing that made the scientists leave was. Loyal to those kind to him, thatâs a must, and loves his work. I donât want him to feel put upon while heâs busy. And...maybe a little gruff? His voice can be, at least.
I go for random traits, since thatâs been fun, and it ends up with âmostly monotoneâ and âscared of being aloneâ. Aww...poor guy. Well, he wonât be alone with us, so thatâs not a problem. I press the button and watch in fascination as the clear mineral oil dribbles into the chamber, swirls of orange and brown being injected from the top as a soft scent of maple wafts out. It ends up with his body being mostly two tone, half and half like a two flavor lollipop. Itâs rather cute, and once the chamber opens, so do the golden lights in his eyes.
Sun and Moon arrive with several options for both gloves and goggles, so I give him a set of thick rubber tipped gloves, and a big safety goggle thatâs tinted for welding.
âMngh...are those for me?â he asks, and his voice is a little gravelly but soft, and he takes the offered gloves and goggles without a fuss. âThanks. So...uh...introductions? Iâm Solar.â
âHi, Solar!â Sun chirps, whole body wiggling like a jello mold, âIâm Sun, and this is my twin, Moon! I clean things up around here and he does security work. Weâre so happy to meet you!â
Moon looks Solar over, then huffs and slinks back to Sun and I, âSafe enough. No flames.â
âYeah, I donât exactly want to get set on fire either,â Solar mumbles, but looks at me, âand youâre the one who made us, right?â
âYeah, I am.â I smile and he just nods.
âOkay then.â He sighs and stretches, his body pulling tight both up and down and side to side before relaxing, âWhatâs the first order of business, boss?â
âOh, weâre gonna be friends, not...yeah, Iâm not in charge. This is a democracy,â I wave off the title, but I see a glimmer in his eyes that tells me heâs going to tease me by calling me boss. âBut could you check over the machine that made you? Itâs the most vital part of this whole place and I want to be sure itâs working. Iâd be devastated if we were in the middle of a new friend being born and it broke down or something went horribly wrong.â
Solar nodded, looking at the mechanics and such, then said, âGive me a few hours. Iâll have this thing clean and perfect before you know it.â
âThank you, Solar,â Iâm relieved, and I can see the soft peach color rising in his cheeks. âYou can have Moon stay with you, or he can go with us to clean out a bedroom for you.â
âOh. Cool...uh...yeah, I guess he can stay with me. Might be nice to have another set of eyes and hands out here.â He looked at Moon, who swirled himself into a little pile beside the only open-able panel I could see on the machine.
âI watch. You work.â
âYou got it, bud,â Solar nodded, then he looked around, âAh, any tool box around here?â
âI got one!â Sun rushed out of the room and came back with a red tool box, full of screwdrivers, wrenches, and other doodads I had no name for. âHere ya go, Solar!â
âThanks,â He smiles, and I was amused to hear that, while his voice was pretty even and didnât modulate much, you could still easily read his emotion in it. âIâll get to it. Any room I can rest in is good for me, so donât fuss about anything special.â
Oh he has no idea how much that phrase triggered me to do EVERYTHING to make his room special for him. I just wave and pull Sun along with me, âOkie dokie. You boys have a nice time and weâll come check on you when weâre done.â
As soon as weâre out of earshot, I whisper to Sun, âWeâre going to make Solarâs room comfortable and perfect for him, right?â
Giggling, we head back to the living quarters and pick a nice room that already has a desk in it to clean out and decorate just for Solar. Tool board, all the extra gloves, some steel-toe boots we find, any guides to the machines we can find, all sorts of things that we think would make Solar feel appreciated. Sun makes the bed perfectly and I ask how mine ended up a nest.
âWell,â Sun shrugged, âMoonie wanted a nest, and said it would be the most cozy so we could all snuggle up together. I think heâs right, so I settled with just putting on the fitted sheet and letting him bundle the rest up.â
âAnd why the sheet getting spared?â I was genuinely curious at this point.
A shudder went through the entirety of his gel, and Sun turned with a horrified look, rays fully extended to the point I could see their bases, âAnd let all of us suffer loose elastic AND mattress texture?! Never!â

It's been a while for this update. Thank you all for waiting so patiently for it! And I hope that it was worth the wait for all of you.
this is an all hands on deck situation right now. the house seems to have made a bipartisan agreement, and is set to be voted into law as soon as next week. again, there's no exact date, but it's an estimate on when it'll happen.
this will be voted by the house representatives. this is a floor vote. if passed, it'll go to senate.
for the next two weeks, call your house representatives. make them oppose this as soon as possible.
âŠ..not even six hours later i got an offer of a well paying full time long-term job with free room and board in queens in nyc, allowing me independence and a way to escape an abusive situation and an unhealthy environment
likes charge reblogs cast, folks, this is the good luck post
the last time I reblogged this post right before I got a great job, in a permanent work-from-home position, with benefits, retirement, and a salary literally 3x what I was making before, doing something I really like.Â
It should 100% be illegal for companies to make you give them your payment information when you sign up for a free trial version of their product. It is not necessary and there is no good fucking reason for them to do it. Itâs blatantly just so they can steal forgetful customersâ money.
