I don't know who needs to hear this, but
YOU DO NOT NEED TO START A NEW HOBBY!
STEP AWAY FROM THE TEXTILES!
YOU DON'T NEED MORE YARN!
THAT FABRIC IS NOT CALLING TO YOU! LEAVE IT ALONE!
boy it's me the textiles speaking to you inside your head. you need the yarn. you need thread. your soul hungers to participate in the act of creation. you must feed it. you must buy so many beads.
movie called technically blonde where she goes to trade school instead
No but you don't understand. Rocking up to Welding class with 100% barbie pink tools is such a POWER MOVE.
"Jeremy, I'd really like my orbital sander back ^_^"
"... didn't know it was yours..."
(Legit excited, no sarcasm) "Someone ELSE has the original Box 20-Volt Brushless Cordless Detail Sander with Dust Management?!?!?!?!"
"...no..."
Teacher walking up like "Miss Woods, is that a nail file"
(Elle, blasting compressed air to get rid of the nail file sand)
"Actually, its an emery board. But yes! :D It's a finer grit than what we have, and I've always found these easier to handle"
"...Ok, fair enough."
Elle making friends with the 6 year old daughter of one of her classmates. (Child care ain't cheap, I get it. Bring your kid to class)
Elle learning how to drive a forklift/motorcycle/semi-truck
Elle giving an impromptu lecture in the break room about what gifts to give their wives/girlfriends/mothers
Fucking laser cut "bless this mess" sign on her locker (I lied. It would totally be live, laugh, laser)
Elle's car breaks down and 20+ dudes coming out to show her how to fix it. (And realizing her mechanic is ripping her off)
Every single guy in the building filled with instant despair when she gets with one of the butch lesbians in the program.
Gimme plzzz
Proposal: She takes her car to a mechanic and it's beat for beat like the original movie scene at the dress shop, where the mechanic *tries* to rip her off and she nods along and then eviscerates her with precise technical details.
The rest of Elle's class now shun that mechanics' shop and tell everyone else to as well, so that place ends up going out of businesss, which allows someone else in the class to open up a sparkling pink and perfectly trustworthy shop of his own.
thinking about how Moc Weepe's core belief about himself is that he is evil and destroys everything good he touches, and when he is thrown into the Fold by the United Baronies, his Fold mutation is that his blood literally becomes a corrupting, lethal force, his belief actualized in the raw material of his body
cannot overstate how jarring this episode is for imelda! pov: you get kidnapped at your job by an npr intern, a disgraced twenty one year old marine, louis daguerre, the woman who shot jfk, that greek billionaire jackie kennedy married afterwards, and seditionist britney spears.
Those are MY proud parents of a freaky cult 💛
I did a thing
Wow photopea very good, very cool yah
God the thing about Phineas and Jonas's dynamic in season one that makes it so insane-making (and unfold so badly) is that what Jonas thinks he has is a mild-mannered assistant with social anxiety who just needs a little more confidence and chill to really shine, when what he in fact has is a traumatized attack dog on a short leash who is ready to snap the second he feels even the slightest amount of slack. With social anxiety.
They did NOT leave him behind
Watching Moc Weepe’s descent from slightly creepy conman to genuinely harrowingly scary and probably unstable mad man now in season 3 has been one of the highlights of this show. The way he laughs after killing Kozma sent a genuine chill down my spine the way it tapered off into this growling noise that genuinely felt animalistic and predatory…what a performance. God. What a show.
i started listening to midst expecting to get swept up with phineas but i have unfortunately become bewitched by the most toxic, disgusting, mutually manipulative het duo ever.
If the world of Midst had pride month the Trust would release special limited edition rainbow valor and make Jonas and Phineas do a queerbaity photo shoot to model it. They’d have a pride float and Weepe would fastball the valor directly at the faces of any queer couple he sees making out in the crowd. He’s not doing it because he’s homophobic (though he might be) he just thinks it’s funny. Imelda would get a performative undercut.
If you haven't consumed Midst, you gotta consume Midst. It's so good. It's characterful. It's whimsical. It's dramatic. It's thoughtful. It has incredible audio and accessible transcripts and cool episode art. It has an old hound dog named Landlord (he survives. this is not a spoiler). You. Reading this. Get into Midst
In a time of crisis, Saskia still gives Moc Weepe his medical case when she sends him packing. She waits long past when it's safe to let people into the relative haven of the caves. She sings to keep them calm. She is afraid and needs comfort: who better to do this than she. The world needs more Saskias and the Moonfall tearror says "okay"
Can't sleep, thinking about Midst podcast and how cool (terrible) and fun (horrific) it is how the Trust incentivizes toxic independence.
The Trust is an economic religion that awards morally good acts with currency (Valor), but does so by subtracting that Valor from elsewhere which incurs debt (Caenum).
Imagine your neighbor comes to your door and asks to borrow some sugar. You give it to them. Now, you can go to a notary to report that you have selflessly given your neighbor some sugar out of the goodness of your heart. You are awarded some Valor for this laudable deed! That Valor is deducted from your neighbor's account and, if they do not have the Valor to 'pay' you, they incur instead Caenum.
(This is especially great for you if the amount of Valor you 'paid' for the sugar that you gave away was less than what you 'gained 'earned' by helping your neighbor, since you would actually 'profit' 'financially' from that transaction!)
But so this system explicitly dis-incentivizes asking your community for help, because doing so is imposing upon them and putting you literally in debt. And if you try to 'pay' back that debt, well, I hope the conversion rates are in your favor when you do so!
The podcast (at least the original 3-season show, I've not caught up on Unend) then goes on to explore things like "if I save your life, what do you owe me?" and "if you kill The Best Person In The World, prematurely stopping that person from putting out More Good, then does that make you The Worst Person In The World?" and "what if a guy who loves power and knows how to scam an economy got a hold of this shit?"
