What's up with Chinese culture and the bug eyed animations and dolls (Japanese culture too some extent also)? We see it in dolls, cartoons, animation, and in advertisement. I mean even the "pale face" or "laowai" or "gaijin" have these bug eye features in them... The ellipses is for the following remarks: So is the reason for the bug eye expression because Asian people generally have, whats the euphemism, circularly narrow eyes? Well that's the first part of the discussion. As often is the case people yearn for what they don't have in their environment and seek what appears to be more valuable from a different environment (the basis of goods trade is a direct material metaphor, but it may be similarly stretched to the trade in culture and information). Is then the case of buggy eyedness a function of European and more "civilized" characteristics (something arguable from both sides of the relationship)? The fact that this trait is over expressed even lends it to be sourced as an obsessive component and not necessarily a natural inclination to some adulteration of cuteness. It's kind of like the hello kitty thing, but in the end I wonder if this example is akin to the West (capital W) example of Orientalism: harems, executioners, sultans, exoticism, and the safari among others. I don't know, and I have researched just yet, but it sure does bug my eyes out.

Although this has been posited as the reason for societies lack of adherence to anti-littering regulations, it does not justify their actions. Please keep in mind this area is brand new, it was just developed only a few months earlier and already it has become a dump. When people stop at the red light, they throw anything in their car outside, and if you dare to tell them anything they will say: "who cares, someone will pick it up".

#fail #saudi Do you know what a sidewalk represents? Its a lot more than just concrete or pavers strewn on the ground. No my dear, sidewalks represent all that is sought from a civilized society.

Sidewalks represent that a public interest is present and well accounted for. Uniform and complete sidewalks allow patrons to visit businesses with unimpeded access. This is huge for economic development. Imagine the extreme metaphor if your favorite coffee shop or bookstore had a 3 meter curb in front of its entrance. Would you try and climb up? Well, I love lattes just as much as the other but I don't think that would be a practical situation for the business establishment to be in. For this reason, public sector focus on the integrity of curbs/sidewalks is crucial for promoting a good business development environment.

Next time your walking down the sidewalk from block to block, stop and say, thank you public sector. You know why? Because the seamless integration of sidewalks is a conscious effort to ensure a standard process has been developed throughout all sidewalks in a particular vicinity (if not throughout the country). For the same reason a curb should not be three meters high, a sidewalk should also not be different from the one in front of it. The goal is to allow people to move freely in a way that encourages them to, heaven forbid, not drive from block to block but instead walk.

#idiot #saudi #drivers do this move where they pass everyone in traffic via the right hand turn only lane, then when they reach the light they transgress across the crosswalk and park askew at the front of the line. This image is of one person only, but it often creates competition between like idiots, resulting in a number of cars leading all the way into the intersection. When this "critical mass of dumb-asses" is met, the best idiot out of the lot will then run the red light, lest he be outdone by an even better fool. There will be more of this.
