One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didn’t like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldn’t peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of “most likely to have a pen they could borrow” and ever since I’ve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if I’m bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.
Sometimes friendship is about carrying pens and peeling oranges. But the point is, surrounding yourself with people who you want to do the little things for. The point of it all is bringing in the doughnuts because you’ve found the people who deserve the doughnuts.
And I’m so fucking lucky, and I don’t always say it or even think it. Because I have friends who send me letters and who told me when the cafeteria at work had chopped tomatoes and who want to watch Scream with me and it just hits me sometimes that this world can do the ugliest things to people, but as long as I still have a friend who will point out dogs on the sidewalks to me then I have something amazing to live for. And as long as I have pals who I want to make peppermint bark for, then I have a reason to keep pushing this world to be better.
When I was in college I used to bake a bunch and it was always too much for me to eat alone so I’d give plates away to other people in my building.
My third year a gal moved in, and I spoke to her maybe once at a building social, but I remembered her because she said she liked edge pieces and I HATE edge pieces. To this day she’s the only friend I’ve ever made who likes edges.
Anyway, I made a batch of brownies about a week later and when I was putting together plates for my friends I remembered Edge Girl. The gang and I are trash for gooey center pieces, we don’t want those crispy edges, but you know who does? Edge Girl. I put all four corners on a plate and brought them to her apartment.
It was the smallest thing to me, but when she realized that I’d remembered her preference and brought some for her, I could see it meant a whole lot to her.
After that, each batch I baked while she lived in my building, she got the edge pieces.
Well this is a new one.

Being in this generation is so difficult because we grew up experiencing how incredible technology is, but are now watching it fall to capitalism. When we were young videogames were incredible, people made incredible games that they shared with us and it was art, it was story, it was the best a developer could put out there. Now it's pay to win, it's pay to unlock content that came on the disk, releasing half finished games, make money and run.
It's the same with social media. It used to be a place to share art and ideas, make friends, connect with people, and now it's all ads, branded content, pay to have your work seen.
Don't get me started on apps gatekeeping phone types for better quality, the making of a new phone every year that you have to get because everything is designed to make your older tech obsolete.
Capitalism has stripped humanity from the awe of what the internet and technology used to be. The rich get richer, companies sell their morals to the highest bidder, and there is nothing we can do but watch our future slip away.
“this character is not canonically bisexual” to YOU. i know them personally
One way to look at birthdays… 🍰
Obsessed with this
But we might sell it as DLC later though
I literally do not understand the attitude of "oh no my audience figured out my hints I MUST CHANGE MY STORY" like I am thrilled when people catch foreshadowing in my stuff. I get to play coy when someone figures it out, knowing they're gonna have a big "I KNEW IT" moment at the reveal? Gets me higher than crack.
I truly love how queer can mean "Eh I'm some flavour of Not-Cishet but I don't care to know the specifics beyond that" but also "I absolutely do know the specifics but we will be here all damn day if we get into it" and like. Everything in between. I think that's incredibly powerful of us tbh.
Also "I know damn well the specifics but FUCK YOU for assuming you're entitled to them when it's none of your damn business (especially if you want to know so you can judge the validity of my identity according to your personal tastes)"
also "the specifics have been known to change on me and I cannot be bothered to keep anybody else updated when they do"
I love how all of the Batman villains are like “ah he’s not at the manor, it’s defenseless! and then alfred just racks an AK-47 and is like pull up bitch
Batman’s Villains: The butler will be easy prey!
He’s just an old man…he doesn’t have any of the Batman’s gadgets or training or fighting skills!
Alfred: Oh my you’re right
There’s something else of Master Bruce’s I don’t have as well
(Cocks a shotgun) A CODE AGAINST KILLING
Batman’s Villains: Wayne isn’t here to save you old man!
Alfred:
Alfred is the original “Call an ambulance — but not for me”
@dragonpuppies I spent way too long on this
Bruce: I have a code.
Alfred: And I have a gun.
Bruce: time to remove the guns.
Alfred: good fucking luck.
I’ve peer reviewed @ebonyheartnet’s addition and found that it deserves a reblog.
