I haven't really seen her other work, but from what i've heard, her films are usually very "love or hate and no in between" lol. i liked the film ok and felt that tom did great with what he had (he was one of the standouts) but the writing and the way the film was made didn't really give anyone a lot star power moments imo. you can tell it was meant originally as a play and I feel like the writing/directing didn't translate it super well as a movie. but I'm guessing that's what the director wanted so 🤷‍♀️ not gonna be everyone's cup of tea but some of the performances, the visuals, and the styling were the best parts

exactly, he did with what he had in hands and i don't think anyone could've done better because at the end of the day there's a script and a director.

but personally the film kinda made me want to watch the play because like you said it was originally a play and i think it works more as a play than as a film. the visual and the decor were really good and i think it was one of the good point of the film

I have wondered like if Tom and Dannie broke up tomorrow then what would some of these people do with themselves?

People in this fandom have dug themselves into holes kissing her ass and defending her with their last breath and that could literally all be for nothing and then she’d delete every single photo of Tom the same way she did with Ben 😭

I do wonder like will it be an elephant in the room that no one wants to address? She’s already such a sensitive topic like blogs will deactivate because they talk about her and get bombarded with asks related to her.

In a way I think it would be some relief for the fandom but at the same time I still think people would talk about her all the time. No one ever talks about Rachel’s ex boyfriends because they’re losers but it’s like Dannie is this untouchable topic. If you even mention Britt they want to strike you down with lightning 😭

honestly, that's a good question.

i guess that, since dannie is much more public than britt ever was, most people probably won't have a problem continuing to share photos of them together or talking about that period of tom's life.i also think it's completely fine if people became fans of her through tom. after all, she had work and projects before they started dating. what i find a little odd is when people claim they were fans of her long before the relationship when, realistically, that's probably not true for most of them. and i don't really see the point in pretending otherwise. it's okay to discover someone through their partner. i know people who only started following gracie abrams because she's dating paul mescal, and there's nothing wrong with that.

i also think that, like you said, she's become a really sensitive topic in the fandom. obviously some people like her and some people don't, for whatever reason, and that's normal. no public figure is going to be liked by everyone. what i find a bit disappointing is that it can be so difficult to have a normal, constructive conversation about her without people immediately assuming you're attacking her. that being said, i obviously don't condone people sending hate just for the sake of it, and i do think some people take things way too far when they talk about her. there's a big difference between having a respectful discussion or criticism and just being cruel.

to be fair, though, i think the same thing happens with tom. there are people who really struggle with the idea that someone might simply have a different opinion. for example, i didn't really like pwmov, and that's okay. everyone has different tastes. but i also know there are people who will take that opinion personally, as if it's somehow an attack on them.

i also think the fact that this fandom is relatively small makes everything feel much bigger than it actually is. we all kind of know each other, we see the same blogs, the same twitter account, the same opinions, and the same discussions over and over again. when drama happens, it can end up feeling a little claustrophobic because there just aren't that many people in the space

the fence out on digital... have you been able to watch it? it was something tbh. read an ask a while back on someone saying Claire Denis's art was kinda weird but this was boring.

i did watch it and it wasn't my favourite film.

i never watched any claire denis works so i wasn't familiar with her art and i think i should've maybe looked into her because i had a lot of expectations for that film and it kinda fell flat.

the colours, the outfits were really good but other than that i didn't find it spectacular. tom was good in it but for me it's the kind of film that you watch one time and that's it. it's clearly not my favourite one. i felt like some scenes were maybe too theatrical (and it comes from a play so it's not surprising either) and the way the movie was shot made me feel like each actor were alone during their scenes even when it was a conversation (i don't know if that makes sense)

do i recommend it? i think some people could love it but i don't think it's the kind of film that get loved by everyone.

Why do Tom “fans” get so pressed whenever his ex gets brought up. Sorry he’s dated other women?? Dannie dated people too. Who gives a shit. It’s called having a life before meeting your current partner.

Tom and Britt were together for years and based on the photos we’ve seen of them, had a very beautiful and loving relationship that ended and they both have continued to do what they love separately.

Tom and Dannie now seem to have a very similar relationship that is made of love and respect. Like it’s that simple.

Britt still follows Tom, his sister and stylist still follow her back so like obviously it wasn’t a horrible breakup that shattered her perception of love. He seems like a good boyfriend. At the time he was filming a lot back to back and it was probably a lot on his plate so they ended things.

He started seeing Dannie while filming People We Meet on Vacation — which he talked about on the View before some loser tries to correct my timeline even if Dannie did take down any posts from that time — and now they’re together. And like, she’s with him now so why are you guys always so pressed?

He’s obviously a very loving boyfriend who has posted both of his girlfriends for Valentine’s Day and shared special moments such as movie premieres with them and wants them around on set for Billy the Kid.

Britt was here first, that’s a fact not an opinion. Her relationship with Tom ran its course and photos of them — shared publicly mind you — are still out there and can be posted. When Rachel stays friend with Josh and actively still sees him and supports him no one cares but God forbid you mention Tom’s ex and suddenly it’s pitchforks and fires.

He moved on from his old relationship. Dannie had a relationship too and she moved on from it as well. But they happened and we can talk about it if we want. It’s such a weird double standard in this fandom you can’t talk about anything without someone accusing you of hating.

Just because his current relationship is way more public doesn’t invalidate the fact that he’s dated other women in the past. Dannie’s last relationship was pretty damn public too but again, if you say anything about her people accuse you of hating women when guess what? Tom is never going to pick any of us so it’s never going to matter in the end anyways. That’s why we’re fans. Get the picture?

i think people get so defensive because they assume that bringing up britt automatically means you're trying to erase or disrespect tom's relationship with dannie. and i can understand wanting to defend dannie to some extent, especially after the dress incident and she got unnecessary hate for it when she didn't deserve it, but i also feel like some people are looking way too deep into it.

talking about britt doesn't erase dannie, and i really don't think people are bringing britt up just to spite her. she was a huge part of tom's life for years (they dated for like 4 years i think?). acknowledging that doesn't take anything away from his current relationship.

what i find funny is people getting so pressed over photos of tom and britt together. because by that logic, if tom and dannie ever broke up, would we all suddenly have to stop posting photos of them too? that just seems really extreme to me. past relationships don't suddenly stop existing because someone moved on, and i don't think fans have to pretend they never happened (and I'm sure tom isn't the kind of person to do that either)

What are your favorite Rachel and Tom movies?

for rachel i would say tbosas because she was genuinely so good in it and she was how i pictured lucy gray but honourable mention for west side story because she was incredible in it but sadly she had the worst costar (iykyk) and personally i didn't enjoy as much as possible because of it

wasteman would be my favourite tom's film. he was phenomenal in it and scary (in a good way). i remember when i saw it, i was just mind blowed because tom really erased himself to embodies dee and you don't see a ounce of tom himself, it's just dee (i don't know if it makes sense but it does in my head)

i love their friendship, i love how they support eachother since they met and i know they must have a lot of fun together. i also think they look really good together and that if one day they date, i would be there first row cheering at them.

obviously, i don't condone people going under their post shipping them openly, because i think shipping is something that should stay in fan spaces and that artists shouldn't be involved in it directly, especially if they don't want to.

there's really no way of knowing if tom knows or not. I've had loved ones who like offensive "jokes" on socials and they never speak that way irl. he probably also didn't see her like on the video so I think people should be focusing on her and her only when they discuss this situation. i appreciate you having a nuanced take though! this is a sensitive topic and some people on both sides are treating it very flippantly

i wanted to add that i think i didn't explain my thoughts enough in the original post! i was thinking more about if she was saying thing like that irl in front of him.

like if (and i said IF) she was being fatphobic (or anything else that's offensive) in front of him and he stayed, i would be disappointed because for me, staying with someone who has that kind of behaviour means that you agree with it to a certain extent. i would, personally, never be close to someone fatphobic, racist, homophobic or more because i don't agree with that and i couldn't spend time with someone like that.

but like i said, it's a lot of if and we don't know for sure what really happened. i can only hope it was an honest mistake and that she will be more careful in the future!
