The tragic loss in Orlando, Florida was NOT an attack “against all of us”. It was NOT an attack against America.

For decades, the United States (as a nation) has constantly dehumanized the LGBT community...

You've denied same-sex couples the right to marry (until just a year ago). You ban gay and bisexual men from donating blood (based on a negative stereotype with no evidence). You vote to allow LGBT people to be denied employment (or fired from a job) based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The same happens with housing. You freak out over Transgender people using the bathroom that associates with their own gender identity. You're always claiming how homosexuality (especially among males) is "disgusting". You actually make it perfectly 'okay' for bullying to happen against LGBT youths and disregard it as "just a different opinion". You use hateful words like “faggot” and “tranny” on a daily basis. You accuse homosexuals of being "pedophiles" when around children. You believe same-sex couples shouldn't be allowed to raise kids. You believe LGBT characters shouldn't be allowed in the media. You think it's gross when same-sex couples express PDA, but are perfectly fine with straight couples do the same. You're always teaching children about how homosexuality is "wrong". You always preach to us about how who we are is "sinful" and that we're "going to hell" (unless, of course, a mass shooting happens, then you're suddenly loving and caring toward us... for a short amount of time)...

You think that Islam is to blame for the mass shootings that happened in Orlando!? The shooter was actually born in America. He was raised in America. It's amazing how so many people can be blinded by their own ignorance. It's America that allowed this to happen. America has constantly embraced and encouraged homophobia for years! But, when this kind of thing happens, suddenly everyone decides to pretend they're shocked.

This is why we refuse to allow America to call this tragedy an "attack against all of us". The tragic loss in Orlando was NOT an attack against America! It was an attack against the LGBT community that was influenced by the same bigotry and hatred that America uses against the LGBT community on a daily basis! Do NOT try to straight wash this tragedy! Do NOT straightsplain to anybody in the gay community about why you personally believe this happened. This is on America's failure to accept the LGBT community. Don't turn this against another marginalized group of people just because you can't seem to accept that you're part of the problem.

“Retarded” apparently isn’t a slur (according to Facebook)

So, I’m a gay man who happens to have Asperger’s (which means I have high functioning autism). I constantly report comments and posts on facebook that use disgusting words like “retard” and “retarded”. But, whenever FB replies back to me, those specific words apparently “don’t violate Facebook’s community standards” or whatever.

Well, some of the comments were on LGBT related pages. These were LGBT people using these disgusting slurs (yes, "retarded” is a slur). I replied to one of them and called the user a “tranny dyke” as an attempt to show them how hurtful it is to hear a slur that relates to who they are. Yes, I realize that I was being no better, but I was just sick and tired of seeing those words used by people in my own community! It sickens me! So anyway, this morning I got a message from Facebook telling me that I’m blocked from posting things for 7 days because of that comment that I made. I’m the one who gets blocked for saying “tranny dyke” in response to someone using the word “retarded”. Even though I reported that specific comment three times and nothing happened!

This is a huge double standard. I’m sick of this kind of thing happening! People with autism are constantly being marginalized and treated like subhumans. Nobody cares about our feelings. People freely use the words “retard” and “retarded” with no consequences at all! Nobody blinks an eye. But, the moment someone decides to use an anti-gay or anti-transgender slur (even when it clearly wasn’t actually meant to be filly offensive), suddenly it’s such a big deal! Ableism in the LGBT community is very real! Ableism in our society in general is too!

People who use these words (”retard” and “retarded”) are also constantly attempting to justify and excuse it too! They often try telling me that it’s “in a different context”. People with autism are often told that we’re “too sensitive” and “need to get over it”. NO! That’s Bullsh*t! We’re human beings and deserve to be treated with respect!

Gay Characters

I love how nearly EVERY character/relationship shown in the media can be heterosexual and nobody complains, BUT, the moment anyone even suggests that just ONE character or relationship should be gay, the response is suddenly "not everything needs to be gay"... these people act as if straight people are being oppressed by having just one character be gay. It's ridiculous!

Fake LGBT Allies

Yes, there are people known as ‘Fake Allies’... these are the people who often start or respond to a conversation saying something like “I’m not homophobic, but...” or “I support gay rights, but...” and of course, the infamous “I support gay rights, so I can’t be homophobic!”

These are people who suggest that PDA is “gross” regardless of the gender(s) involved. Let’s be real here. The vast majority of PDA moments between a man and woman often go unseen or are praised by society. Opposite gender couples kiss, hold hands, make out, and (heaven forbid) have sex in public all the time with almost no backlash. If a same-sex couple dares to do the same things, the reactions suddenly change from positive to negative.

Fake allies also like to suggest that simply supporting same-sex marriage (or as they call it, “gay marriage”) means they’re suddenly experts on LGBT equality. They think same-sex marriage is the only right LGBT people are fighting for (because we all know the Transgender community totally benefits from same-sex marriage alone, right?). They ignore other (and often more important issues) that LGBT people experience... such as discrimination in the workplace. They ignore the Aids/HIV crisis among gay and bisexual men. They also don’t seem to notice how much harder it is for a same-sex couple to adopt a child. There are obviously more rights to list, but this is just a brief summary.

And media representation? Forget about it! As long as a character “looks” or “acts” gay (whatever these mean), that’s our representation! Even if this “gay looking” or “gay acting” character is show in a heterosexual relationship, it’s the best we can get before heterosexuals start becoming uncomfortable. And then we have the “allies” who claim that sexual orientation “doesn’t matter” and how that argument somehow justifies the absence of LGBT characters in the media... even though heterosexual characters and relationships are shown all the time.

This list can go on and on, but the overall point can probably be taken here... if you want to be an ally for LGBT people, you need to actually show it! It’s not some kind of label you can just take and call yourself. It actually involves (*gasp*) SUPPORT!

Intersectionality Means People With Autism Too!

For all the Social Justice movements (feminists, LGBT, etc) who continuously scream about intersectionality from the top of their lungs, remember that people on the autism spectrum exist too! Very rarely do I ever see this demographic mentioned by these movements! I always hear them complaining on and on about white, male, cisgender, straight, class, and able body privileges, but I never see any posts or hear any advocates speak about the rights of Autistic people or how we’re also in society! Autistic people are male, female, gay, straight, black, white, cisgender, transgender, bisexual, Mexican, Asian, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, etc!

If you’re going to continuously shout on about intersectionality, maybe you should start practicing what you claim to preach!

LGBT Rights Is NOT Over!

For all the LGBT people and allies who seem to think that since marriage equality is now legal nationwide that our fight for equality is over... GET OVER YOURSELVES! We’re NOT done! Marriage was only ONE of the many rights we’ve been fighting for! It was NOT the only one! Was it a huge step forward? Absolutely! However, we still have a long way to go!

People can still be fired or denied a job because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. People can also be evicted or denied housing for these same reasons! The gay blood ban is also still a thing (which means gay and bisexual males are unable to donate blood because of an outdated stigma). Same-sex couples are also still struggling to adopt children or even use surrogates and sperm banks! Bullying against LGBT youths still exists. LGBT youths are also committing suicide because of bullying. 40% of homeless youths identify as LGBT. Anti-gay hate crimes are still happening around the country. Anti-transgender hate crimes are also happening in much larger numbers (especially for Transgender Black Women). The Transgender community has also been left behind in most of the progress for LGB rights. Their movement (ironically, since Stonewall was started by a Transgender Woman Of Color) hasn’t even taken off yet!

So, again, for anyone who thinks marriage equality was the ultimate victory for LGBT rights, THINK AGAIN! And this goes for ANYONE who thinks this (gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, male, female, cisgender, etc)... we’re NOT done!
