Regina looked up from her desk, flinching as her eyes met the rather anxious red-headed, who just barged into her office unannounced.
Sheâd never seen her this hasty, at least not that the mayor remembered, and she was certainly never that chatty before. The womanâs vomit of words made absolutely no sense, and Regina could do nothing but frown, trying to find some sense in the middle of this nonsense.
When she paused, Regina followed the womanâs gaze that fell upon her daughterâs cradle, and not even a second later she was up on her feet next to the baby.
âWhat the hell are you talking about? Of course I remember,â she said, carefully picking Robin up before the other woman had the chance to reach for her. Regina held her daughter close, soothing her as she started to squirm from being woken up abruptly.
âIt seems as if youâre the one who forgot, Miss Green.â
There was a long beat in which Regina simply looked at the woman, as she slowly took a few steps back behind her desk to keep the distance between the two.
For no apparent reason, she never liked the woman. And as if Regina needed any validation for her despise, Zelena just gave her one. Not only was she late, but now she was talking nonsense about her child too? As if Regina would ever be that irresponsible to let anything happen to her daughter, of course she had her. Sheâd brought her along to work on a daily basis. But why would Zelena Green even care?
âYouâd better have a damn good excuse for barging into my office at this hour. You were supposed to be here hours ago but instead, Iâm the one doing all this paperwork!â She shot, taking hold of the pile of papers in front of her and handing it to Zelena.
âAnd the next time you try to imply anything about my parenting skills, Greenie,â Regina hissed through her teeth, warning her, âYou wouldnât be so lucky to still keep this job.â
Zelena had a quick moment of relief when Regina first responded to her. She was so happy to not be in too deep within the curse by herself. But all of that faded the moment her once friendly sister uttered the words âMiss Greenâ
Zelena froze. As soon as Regina looked into her eyes, she knew all she needed to know. It was the same look she gave her when she appeared in the underworld. It wasnât happy. It had no sister-ly love. And it stung, hard.
And then Regina swiped Robin away, an act that only a defending parent would do. Heck, Zelena would probably do it herself if even Regina tried to grab her that quickly. But just the fact she was doing it in the first place planted a knife so deep into her gut it felt like she had internal bleeding. Â
Quickly, Zelena attempted to wrap her head around the facts Regina had just let out for her. Apparently Zelena worked for her, and she had paperwork to do. She tried to decipher if it was all some kind of code, as if Regina wasnât free to speak, and needed Zelena to catch on that she really did have her memories. But at this point, she was likely just grasping at straws.Â
Still, that didnât stop her from trying.Â
âR-Regina, please...you have to remember. Something--anything--â but Zelena stopped herself from pressing further. If Regina did lose her memories, she would only make it worse by sounding like a lunatic in front of her. So she tried to play around it. âWhat...exactly do you remember about, um...yesterday! Right, yesterday. What happened yesterday? Can you tell me?âÂ
It was an odd question, but if things went as planned, Regina could reveal some insight to what her cursed brain had infected her with. And, hopefully, Zelena could get some kind of sense on the word she was being trapped in...and why Robin no longer belonged to her.Â
