Santa only giving presents to good kids instills at a young age the idea that people with less are morally inferior.
Don’t leave out any hard of hearing children who come to your door this Halloween, take a minute out of your day to learn a few seasonal asl signs! These are two different variations of “Happy Halloween” Click here for my source.
It’s Pardon Day
September 8th is Pardon Day and we thought we’d share this act of forgiveness. In 1882 Lexington’s notorious madam, Belle Brezing, was indicted by the Grand Jury. Her crime? “Keeping a bawdy House.” A few months later Ms. Brezing received this pardon from then Governor Luke P. Blackburn.
Pardon from Kentucky Governor Luke P. Blackburn (1879-1883) for Belle Brezing from the charge of “Keeping a Bawdy House”

HEY FLORIDA.
The governor just stated if you can’t get out of any mandatory evacuation, whether for fuel or any reason at all, call 1-800-955-5504, right now! The’ll help if you don’t have money, if you have pets, etc. They want you to call NOW because there is time to help you. (I guess signal boosting this is an upside to being subjected to the weather channel while living utterly landlocked.)
Cool Chicks from History Missing from Wikipedia: September 2017
Every few months, Cool Chicks from History puts together a list of women missing from Wikipedia. Wikipedia is often the first source people check when looking for information, but Wikipedia has a documented gender problem There’s a whole Wikipedia article about it! More men than women edit Wikipedia and that leads to a imbalance in what topics are included and how detailed the entries are.
“Why don’t you just write the articles then, Cool Chicks from History? Why do you try to crowdsource it?” Well, mostly because it takes about as much time to write this list as it does to write a single detailed new Wikipedia entry. Also crowdsourcing encourages more people to participate in shaping Wikipedia.
Dozens of new articles have been created after a woman was listed as a Cool Chick from History Missing from Wikipedia. Some examples: Helen Octavia Dickens, Eunice Dennie Burr, and Thea Tewi.
If you are interested in learning how to edit Wikipedia articles, there is a tutorial here. There is also a place for friendly Wikipedia help here.

Hmmm…”the portal.” This?
Staff at Denver’s Central Library is receiving training on how to administer Narcan after six people overdosed at the library since Feb. 28.
Just this morning I found two articles about librarians being trained to deal with heroin overdoses.
I was trained a while back, though not in a work context. They provided the training and the medication for free; you just had to show up at the park on a particular day.
