Jean Joseph Benjamin Constant (French, 1845-1902) - Orientale
Vultures are holy creatures.
Tending the dead.
Bowing low.
Bared head.
Whispers to cold flesh,
“Your old name is not your king.
I rename you ‘Everything.’”
fun fact!
Vultures are also responsible for keeping diseases at bay.
Vulture stomach acid is so powerful that it can kill anthrax and many other deadly diseases.
So when they consume the carcass of a creature that has died of disease, they actually destroy the disease within it too!
So yes vultures are 100% holy creatures because they not only eat the dead, but protect the living from death.

Learning more about how cannibalism (in some historical/cultural contexts) was a sign of love and respect has been fascinating, even more so when noting that the idea of conquest remains! Eating people is how you "spiritually" consume their essence and power, yet by doing so to a friend or family, it was a way of carrying on their memory and spirit in a sense. Communing with them after they died. Even more so, it was sometimes viewed as kind to prevent a body from rotting or falling to insects!
Criously, burned bones in a historical sight are often used as an indicator that it may have been acts of cannibalism. It was often used as a way to hide the damage done to the bones to make it hard to tell if the damage was done by a man or an animal. Along with if it happened after they died or not. It's almost an act of shame or embarrassment, an acknowledgment that you know what you've done is taboo. Other times, Bone-Ash was also a special type of cannibalism, which is another thing I hadn't even heard of before!
Even the Greeks viewed Cannibalism as one of the greatest wrongs one could commit, according to my World-Lit professor at least. So I was extremely interested in the more positive elements surrounding it, and now I'm kinda curious of your thoughts on the matter?
(Sorry for the constant cannibalism dumps)
huh
never really thought about the culture around cannibalism
that's actually rad as hell, seeing it as a "passing on" sorta ceremony
It's also worth pointing out that Ukraine has a population of 43 million, while Gaza's is only a little over 2 million
And yet...

Are you alright, honey? You've barely put your blorbo in situations
Okay but back when I could afford a therapy my psychiatrist asked if I had written any fanfiction or planned any out in my head, and I was "nah, not really." And she nodded and looked down at her notes and was like "so how do you feel about possibly trying Zoloft?"
I started laughing and she was like "I know it sounds funny but it's been six months without you engaging in your favorite hobby and that's a sign the depression is getting to a point where we might why try some treatments with meds in addition to therapy."
So like. yeah.
A category is a collection of objects and morphisms (best to think of them as arrows) between them. For example you can think of a monoid (like the natural numbers(no zero) with multiplication) the class of objects being the set and the the collection of morphisms being the described by the binary operation by some element of the set(*,n for all n in the natural numbers). What happens when you want to move between categories? Well then you introduce functors, maps between categories. Full means for every pair of objects x,y in C the mapping f to F(f) defines a surjection Mor(x,y) to Mor(Fx, Fy); faithful means basically the same but injection not surjection, combined full and faithful is like injectivity, you need a third thing; essentially surjective. Essentially surjective means for every object d in D there is some c in C st Fc isom d. If you have fully faithful and essentially surjective you have an isomorphism on catagories.For example in the degenerate example of the category of the natural numbers with multiplication by a natural number, and the category of the integers, addition and multiplication by an integer, the identity from the natural numbers to the integers is a faithful functor trivially. For a less degenerate example think of k dimensional vector (obj) spaces and k linear maps (mor). This is not nessasarialy surjective on objects. What are some functors is a natural question. Now onto my favorite functor: the forgetful functor. The forgetful functor: U, from the catagory to the set maps objects to their underlying sets and morphisms to their underlying set-maps. it tosses out the structure of the catagory, hence forgetful. Its really fucking dope ngl. to define the next functor we need to define the C^{op}, the opposite category, it has the same object but with flipped arrows(swap the sources and targets of C's morphisms). There is a functor C to C^{op} that takes objects to themselves and arrows to their "flip". For the third example we will talk about based spaces. Let (X,x) be a based space, (X is a space, x in X). we call the fundemental group \pi_1(X,x) the set of based continous maps l:[0,1] to X st l(0)= l(1) = x, moding out homotopy equivilence. The group structure is loop conatenation: given l, l':[0,1] to X, define l'l:[0,1] to X to do one loop over [0.5] then one loop over [0.5, 1]. then given a based map f:(X,x) to (Y,y), there is aninduced map f_*:\pi_1 X to \pi_1 Y given by l to f \circ l. This defines a functor: \pi_1 (-): Top_* to Grp. for the forth and final example for this post for each n, singular homology defines a functor H_n(-): Top to Ab. Simularly, singular cohomology defines a functor H^n(-): Top^{op} to Ab. Next post we will talk about natural transormations. they are rather hype ngl.

you can make nearly any object into a good insult if you put ‘you absolute’ in front of it
example: you absolute coat hanger
as well u can just add ‘ed’ to any object and it’s sounds like you were really drunk
example: i was absolutely coat hangered last night
#i was gazeboed mate #i was absolutely baubled
Meanwhile, “utter” works for the first (e.g., “you utter floorboard”) but somehow “utterly” doesn’t seem to work as well for the second (“I was utterly floorboarded”).
Utterly doesn’t work for drunk because it’s the affix for turning random objects into terms for *shocked*, obviously.
… huh. I thought that might just be the similarity to “floored”, and yet “I was utterly coat hangered” does seem to convey something similar.
I have to tell you, I am utterly sandwiched at this discovery.
Completely makes the phrase mean “super tired”.
“God, it’s been a long week, I am completely coat-hangered.”
Something is
Something is wrong with our language
Is it a glitch or a feature?
Feature
we don’t have anything like this in French and it offers a range of expressibility that I wish we could properly translate back. it is a feature, i concur

[EXTREMELY LOUD CORRECT BUZZER SOUND]
literally me
i love how like… im always busy and forget to talk to people and then when i remember im busy (doing the math) and im like “im having fun doing the math im sure i’ll remember to talk to them later” and then forget and now the only people i talk to in a regular basis outside of class and like a few exeptions im talking to about math and all the math we have to do and other math things and i forget everything else bc i only have time for the math and then when i have a break i feel to self conscious to talk to the non math people bc i think they may be upset at me bc i never talk to them.
Fun Story: My director kept telling me and my tenor sax buddy to play softer. No matter what we did, it wasn’t soft enough for him. So getting frustrated, I told my buddy “Dont play this time. Just fake it”
Our Band Director then informed us we sounded perfect.
To my readers: “p” means quiet, “pp” means really quiet. I’ve never seen “pppp” before haha.
On the contrast, “f” means loud, and “ffff” probably means so loud you go unconscious.
I had ffff in a piece once and my conductor told me to play as loudly as physically possible without falling off my chair…
Me and my trombone buddies had “ffff” and he sat next to me and played so hard that he fell out of his chair.
The lengths we go for music.
Okay yeah so I play the bass clarinet and the amount of air you have to move and the stiffness of the reed means it only has two settings and that is loud and louder, with an optional LOUDEST that includes a 50% probability of HORRIBLE CROAKING NOISE which is the bass equivalent of the ubiquitous clarinet shriek.
One day, when I was in concert band in high school, we got a new piece handed out for the first time, and there was a strange little commotion back in the tuba section — whispering, and pointing at something in the music, and swatting at each other’s hands all shhh don’t call attention to it. And although they did attract the attention of basically everyone else in the band, they managed to avoid being noticed by the band director, who gave us a few minutes to look over our parts and then said, “All right, let’s run through it up to section A.”
And here we are, cheerfully playing along, sounding reasonably competent — but everyone, when they have the attention to spare, is keeping an eye on the tuba players. They don’t come in for the first eight measures or so, and then when they do come in, what we see is:
[stifled giggling]
[reeeeeeally deep breath]
[COLOSSAL FOGHORN NOISE]
The entire band stops dead, in the cacophonous kind of way that a band stops when it hasn’t actually been cued to stop. The band director doesn’t even say anything, just looks straight back at the tubas and makes a helpless sort of why gesture.
In unison, the tuba players defend themselves: “THERE WERE FOUR F’S.”
FFFF is not really a rational dynamic marking for any instrument, but for the love of all that is holy why would you put it in a tuba part.
This is the best band post
Everyone else go home
Oh man, so I play trombone, and we got this piece called Florentiner Marsch by Julius Fucik, and we saw this
which is 8 fortes. We were shocked until,
that is 24 fortes who the fuck does that
Who does that?
This guy. Take a good look - that is the moustache of a man with nothing to lose.
@hellsite-hall-of-fame this is one for the history books…
i forgot band people exist… i am now sad
Fuck I’m at a fencing tournament and literally a minute after I reblogged this my dad told me that he talked to the point people and I’m probably going to win a medal.
BURN BAGEL BURN
OH WHY NOT?
I need to follow up to say I reblogged this last night, and this morning I got some of the best news of my life, like, a life dream come true news thing.
Bagel what are your powers
FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. I reblogged this yesterday’s night “just for fun and because I don’t want any bagel to be mad with me”, and today’s afternoon, while I was losing my time as always, the professor I was supposed to work with called me and asked me for my personal information to start working with her.
THE BAGEL POWERS ARE WAY TOO MUCH FOR THIS WORLD
I GOT A JOB THE DAY AFTER MY QUEUE POSTED THIS THE FIRST TIME AND I JUST REALIZED IT WHEN I SAW IT AGAIN HOLY GOD
The bagel hasn’t let me down yet!
I got a job offer after reblogging the bagel. Believe in the bagel!
Worth a try lol
i could use some good news or even a good girl
Go lil bagle! Show me your power!
Okii then!
THIS IS THE FIRST THING ON MY BLOG
I GOT ASKED OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER I REBLOGGED IT
Ugh I hate superstitions… … not that it stops me, of course
goofy ahh of me
I think the reason conservatives hate environmentalism so much is that all the terminology is too friendly and lame sounding to take seriously. I purpose we change the following terms to get these people on our side.
Solar powered -> Plasma charged
Wind power -> Vortex energy
Electric vehicle -> Lightning machine
Renewable resource -> Infinity asset
Greenhouse gasses -> Death Clouds
Global warming -> Property devaluation
Environmentalists -> Wilderness cops
For example, saying you're a wilderness cop that drives a lightning machine powered by infinity assets to reduce death clouds and increase your property value sounds 100x more macho than the alternative.
Genuinely though, conservatives will overwhelmingly support something with a different name. I’ve seen it hundreds of times. They’re like babies this way.
You’ve heard of hopeless romantic? I’m a hopeless platonic
For anyone wondering, this was the exact feeling behind this post
