It's the venting. In the USA, dryers have massive exhaust vents to the outside of the room/building that take the hot wet away and leave hot dry behind. In many other countries, dryers do not generally have external exhaust vents, and simply fill the room they are in with the hot wet, which may or may not be enough to actually remove the hot wet from the clothing depending on how well ventilated the room itself is.

for this reason 1) you generally can't leave the dryer open in winter without causing a draft and 2) sometimes when you're walking around outside in the US the world will suddenly smell of clean laundry because you're near someone's house and their dryer is running

And 3) Eventually your drier stops drying things so well and you have to hire somebody to bring a ladder up to the vent (either high up an exterior wall or on the literal roof) and clear out the accumulated lint and cruft blocking it

Thinking about the episode of Molly of Denali where the kids think the laundry room is haunted but in fact it's a tiny owl who got into the vent. It ends with Molly's father covering the vent opening with a mesh.

My dryer in Sweden dries my laundry very well, thank you.

It's a condenser dryer (translation?) and the water leaves via the drain, same as from the washing machine. If you can't hook it up to the drain, it will collect the water in a tank that you empty after use. Yes, the room gets a bit warmer and more humid during use, but not much. And the laundry is dry.

Honestly, probably the best social tip I could ever give you guys is literally just ask. Need to make a doctor's appointment but don't know how? Call the doctor's office and ask. Don't know the meaning of what someone said? Ask them. Don't understand the instructions you were given? Ask them to repeat or clarify. This has literally never failed me, no one's gotten angry, no one's refused to answer.

Even in situations where you think it might not work, I once accidentally missed a deadline to accept a job offer, so I called and asked if they could reset it and they did. Just today I called a doctor and asked how to schedule an appointment, the lady told me how, and then I did it. Didn't know if someone was being sarcastic or not, so I asked and they told me. Just ask.

You ARE allowed to ask what to do if you don't understand. School taught me I wasn't allowed to ask people to repeat or clarify directions, but that is absolutely not how it works in the real world.

Teachers may get frustrated because it's the tenth time in five minutes, but in almost any other situation, people would rather clarify what they just said than have you walk away not understanding.
