People who are in favor of big structural changes but oppose anything that would require them personally to adapt at all.
"Solving global warming requires actions by governments and large corporations." True!
"Therefore there's no point in you as a private citizen trying to reduce their emissions" False!
Corporations are emitting because people buy their products. To some extent you have no choice but to buy unsustainable products just to meet your basic needs, but trying to reduce discretionary consumption IS possible for most people in wealthy countries and IS worth doing.
are your "just shower thoughs"

I have to walk in the woods to see the time knife. Can't do it in the shower, it requires the combination of novel scenery and physical exertion.
putting on the high vis corset and running in front of cars across a dark country road like a deer
Item: Corset of Visibility
Pair this with a black skirt and boots, and you, too can be a Visigoth.
A truthberry might make you tell the truth... But a lieberry? A lieberry will loan you books
Detroit is 75% Black
Holy shit that picture speaks volumes.
Genuine question disguised as a poll:
Do you think it should be mandatory for people with driver's licenses to take a refresher driving course every set number of years* – ideally low-cost or funded with taxes – to hammer in the basics of driving, road rules, safety tips** etc, rather than only having to pass a driving test once?
Yes, it should be mandatory / No, but it should be an accessible option / Nuance / Results
* say every 5 years for example
**safety tips could include reinforcing why it's important to keep a certain distance from the car ahead of you and how the safe distance changes depending on various circumstances; how little time speeding/weaving through traffic actually saves vs how much it increases the risks; safety around cyclists/motorcyclists; examples throughout of what can and has happened when people ignore these things; maybe even basic maintenance so you don't get stranded with a flat and no idea how to put the spare on etc etc.
(also re: work, for the sake of this poll let's say it'd be similar to jury duty in the US, in that your employer is required to allow you paid time off work, or your school is required to give you unpunished time off, to complete this refresher course because it's mandatory. And fwiw I'm talking everywhere there are cars & resources to support this, not in any specific country. Obviously some people will still be dicks but we're not talking about them here)

In the USA, you can take a defensive driving class either in person or online. It can lower your car insurance premiums and, under some circumstances, get violation points removed from your license. Look for a class approved in your state.
It's not mandatory, but it IS encouraged.
nothing is more tumblr than having a tumblr sexyman wiki and then warn you to not find some of those men sexy because it's problematic
these people would fucking die if they ever spoke to more than 1 furry
How dare you find this dark, handsome, queer-coded late 20th century bad guy sexy? Just because he's got a lot of hair?

How the FUCK is my area under a flood warning and a smoke warning at the same time?
I mean, yes, I understand the basic science that the smoke is riding high air currents, higher than the rain clouds deluging my neighborhood, which means the storms aren't doing much to clear the air, but it SEEMS like it shouldn't be possible to be suffering from fire and water at the same time in the same place.
Can the rain PLEASE go rain on the boreal forest that is currently on fire? We'd all be so much happier if it did!
I have mild post-mastectomy pain. I have mild post-herpetic neuralgia. They're the same nerve root, and I've also had chronic pain there since I was a teenager.
I've decided that I now just have Confusing As Fuck Mid-Chest Pain. That's a technical term.
The really funny thing about "snakes aren't mammals your snake girl shouldn't have breasts!" is like yeah. Neither should your cat girl.
The fact that this is the line drawn is really funny! Human breasts are actually incredibly rare among mammals! We don't know exactly why humans have big bazongas but it's probably sexual selection, which presents the really funny problem
If your snake women having sex with people is normal and expected...then yeah, they're ALSO probably going to have something resembling breasts. They might even just have breasts in all but function.
Like yes, non-mammals don't make milk, but you actually don't need the whole kit that humans do in order to make milk. Arguably its not even the important part of the breast to begin with.
You also don't need to justify it at all you can just be a pervert about it.
We actually have another theory why human breasts are like that, and it's because of our flat faces.
Most mammals have, compared to humans, an elongated jaw. So a little tiny bump of a mammary gland is fine, just enough to get the nostrils away from the teat, and the young can freely breathe while nursing. However, as humans started using fire more and more to cook food - which softened it up, rendering powerful jaws less necessary - their jaws began to shorten, resulting in the development of the chin and other unique facial structures as the face flattened out.
This, of course, meant that babies could suffocate while nursing, which would obviously be bad. But what if... what if nipple further from chest? Bigger bump, so baby's nose have spot to go that isn't directly into mommy's chest? Oh, turns out that works! Of course, as more and more fat stores become dedicated to growing that breast mound to keep baby from suffocating, it becomes harder and harder for the mother to reabsorb that tissue when not nursing (as many other mammals do), so they just... don't. Knockon effects from there, and bam. Tiddies.
Which means if your cat girl has a flat face she probably should still have boobs but if she's got the full muzzle, not so much.
That's actually really interesting honestly.
Newborns, man, it is TERRIFYING the number of things you have to protect them from that you never even thought of.
We still have no idea which category dinosaurs fell into, BTW.
A small percentage of dinosaur bones show the changes that female bird bones undergo when making eggs, but most specimens cannot be sexed.
letting family members sit in for dead senators is just monarchy logic im appalled that this has even happened before
Each state gets to decide how their state is represented in Congress
This has been a common method for a long time in some states
The idea is that a Senator's sibling/spouse/parent/child knows their intentions and policies better than a political rival or a random person would. It's a pretty good way to prevent political assassinations tbh
An unelected individual getting grandfathered into a real political position due to their blood or legal relationship with a deceased elected official is not pretty good actually
ah yes, since there is no method of choosing a backup individual in advance, of course. neither the voters nor the official could ever anticipate something like this
I think we should develop official policies about backup congresspeople, actually. And possibly implement them if someone misses a bunch of sessions. Or just... let the backup take over as proxy if you're sick or get stuck in a blizzard or whatever.
"My family thinks because im a leftist it means im radical but like whats radical about that? I just want everyone to hug, no bad things to happen, free healthcare and be nice to everyone" - the coldest, rudest most judgemental person you know.
Yeah. This. It's the refusal to acknowledge that the world is messy and complicated, that tradeoffs are a thing, and that people can disagree in good faith. Because only a Bad Person could possibly disagree with "healthcare and hugs."
DSA candidates be like:
The incumbent CLAIMS to be in favor of happy puppies, but puppies are still unhappy sometimes, so CLEARLY they're lying, and I'm the only pro-puppy candidate. Their previous efforts to help puppies were a scam!
btw on the topic of cultural christianity, i see a lot of folks on here who had a really bad experience with religious christianity panic when its pointed out to them, which is understandable to an extent but i just wanna say
you get to PICK. it is entirely up to you which elements of your culture you keep or discard, but the only way to do that is by informing yourself on what things are from the culture you grew up in. i promise it feels empowering to make an active decision to continue doing something because its a cultural norm you like, and that is just as much a step of the process as realising which stuff you can release yourself from feeling an obligation about is.
we are all a product of our environment (whether we like it or not) and grabbing the steering wheel is a hell of a lot more comforting in the long term than pretending to not be in the car.
Yup. If you like celebrating secular Christmas, that's fine! It doesn't make you, like, morally complicit in the worst excesses of evangelical Christians or whatever. People who call it cultural Christianity are not asking you to stop, just to recognize that not everyone does it.
since I haven't seen this mentioned in regards to surviving intense heat: If you have to be outside and the air is hotter than your body temp you will stay cooler by wearing loose full length pants and long sleeves than you will going for the minimal clothing approach.
This doesn't apply to high plastic fabrics as much but with natural fibers and the like wearing loose clothes traps a layer of air the same temperature as you next to your skin instead of letting you bake in the higher temps. Plus it helps with the UV exposure part of the equation.
The robes and veils of desert dwellers developed because they are practical in those temperatures!
