Crossing the Salt
It had been too long since Zhel had seen something new.
His reason for leaving Golmore to begin with had been his desire to see more of the world beyond the Wood - and he'd been thrilled to see all the places that awaited him.
Radz-at-Han had always been special, being the first place he'd seen. Then, he'd come to Thanalan, met his friends in the Graveyard Company, and found a path for himself that he could share with others. Their move to Ishgard, having inherited the manor of their contractor, had introduced more new sights to him, wholly unlike Golmore and Thanalan both.
He'd found a life for himself, and a good one, at that. He was happy - but recently, he started to become more and more aware of just how stagnant he'd become. How his routine had become just that: routine. Training, gear maintenance, trading, with the occasional bounty on behalf of the Company.
There was nothing wrong with it... But, he felt the pull towards the unknown, like he was overdue for getting swept up in it again.
The details, though, were fuzzy. There were countless places on the star he hadn't seen properly, countless places he could go. Deciding which direction to go was difficult, especially since each seemed to take him so far from his responsibilities towards the Company, and from his friends besides.
Then, he'd heard from Alice about her own plans to journey West. He hadn't spent as much time with Alice as he had with some of the others, but that, along with her plan for supporting the Company from afar, seemed all the more reason to ask to join her.
The decision became simple... And before too long, Zhel and Alice had found themselves aboard a ship bound for the New World: Tural.
Being at sea again reminded him of the Captain - of the news of his sudden death. A twinge of sadness hit Zhel's stomach, but he knew that his friend wouldn't have wanted him to dwell on such feelings. The man had had a love for adventure, himself, after all... He'd want Zhel to keep his eyes and mind set on the future, the path ahead of him.
So, he chased his sadness away - forcing a smile to his face, as he looked ahead, across blue waters. Before too long, they would arrive - there would be a lot to do, and a lot to see.
He was looking forward to that.
