So I have a very small following on this blog as I haven't felt very safe making posts in this fandom, especially after the yellowface discourse which while I did get many people supporting me, there was much silence and some negativity making me paranoid (unreasonably so) that people think I'm crazy about the issue
I think from looking through a lot of E/SE Asian bloggers, I've seen over a handful at least that have been frustrated (especially in diaspora), felt spoken-over, and isolated because let's face it, we make up a small population of people that post about these fandoms. I know people that have watched the same series as me but don't post because of how people are in these fandoms
Recently, my sister made a post where she was trying to explain the actual history behind the term cutsleeve because people were incorrectly using it. It was mainly a vent post and while I don't think her posts was worded 100% nicely, she didn't want the post to blow up and it didn't. But in her post, she did screenshot a tumblr user (who she blacked out their url for so they wouldn't get harassment)
Anyways, this blogger completely took out the context of my sister's post, clung to her using the word westerner, and joked with one of her mutuals about how my family had slaves back at China. I know a lot of people follow her and follow some of her mutuals who reblogged the post with no thought or consideration about how that joke could be incredibly cruel. Ftr, my family is on Medicaid and we live with my mother, who after coming to the US, grew up a single room apartment with 6 other family members and worked in a garment factory from age 11 (she's old) so please don't fucking make shitty jokes like that. I don't want to go into further details but we are still really poor and I don't appreciate ridiculous assumptions and cruelty based on a single word you don't like from a post that simply was trying to explain a cultural history you may not understand
So my point in all this, I might take a step back from this blog and focus on my main blog. Some of the few people I trust, I might refollow on that (I already have for a few) or this blog might become more of a main blog too depending since my other blog is half broken and I originally wanted to remake. But I really don't know if I can keep this blog the same as it is because I really feel sick to my stomach with how cruel people can be about actual humans with fandom disagreements
