♡ - ' come on, ’ May called with a smile, not turning as she heard her nephew approach the the kitchen from down the hall. The pan she was stirring still demanded her attention, demanded more spices to be added as well, but for the main part she was just trying to prevent it from bubbling over.
‘ dinners almost ready- ’ she said, finally whirling around, about to squint at Peter and demand an answer over whether he wanted to go and grab them some takeout garlic bread to go with it or whether he could stand the freezer burnt stuff she had heated up earlier. Then her eyes settled on him properly and the woman frowned, arms dropping to her sides limply. It wasn’t that he looked wrong, but the suit was contorted strangely around him and there was something May couldn’t put her finger on. Very softly, she asked, ‘ Pete, bambino? What’s going on? ’

♡ - ‘ gwen? honey, is that you? ’ May called from across the hall of the emergency room, handing the pen and clipboard back to the intern asking her to sign something and rushing across. Her hands immediately reached to fuss over the cut she could see on the woman’s face but she redirected them, instead picking up her chart to leaf through. Concerned brown eyes flickered between badly filled in pages ( she loved the interns because they were for the most part all so sweet but they had so much to learn ) and the blonde, checking for obvious injuries but unable to see much more than her bambino’s friend hurt and in front of her. Her head turned in search of signs of family or her nephew maybe, ‘ what happened? is anyone here with you? what can I do to help? ’

♡ - gentle fingers tapped along the edges of the swelling, tongue clucking in disapproval before she pulled her hands away, gently untangling her fingers from blonde hair before moving to look at the woman’s eyes. Her pupils were a little wide but definitely not blown out completely- drugs maybe, could be as simple as something she took for the pain before deciding to come to the emergency room after all. Either way, May was on the edge about admitting her: it wasn’t about insurance, never was for her- if a patient didn’t have any there were work arounds and loopholes- but it was the restless energy the other was exuding. May hummed and flipped the chart she was holding shut, focusing completely on her for a long moment, ‘ Miss Page, would you be more comfortable if I put you in a private examination room? ’

♡ - it was the last bandaid in the medical kit and May placed it gently over her nephews eyebrows, sticking down the small pad of gauze. In an hour or so she would check on it, make sure it the bleeding had stopped before trying to use the paper stitches to hold it together; it was one thing to use them to hold together a wound, but if it rebled despite them, the stitches’ adhesive would simply dissolve. Her brown eyes wandered down to meet Peters and she pat his cheek gently, avoiding the bruised areas. The smile she offered him was small, and one to show sympathy rather then any happiness- how could she be happy knowing that someone out there had it in for her boy? May sniffed and dropped her hands to her lap, legs crossed on the couch underneath them, ‘ do you want me to ask who did this now, or can I have a hug first? ’

♡ - the title ‘aunt’ had come to May like a dream in the night or a surprise cup of coffee two thirds of the way through a fourteen hour shift; she had never been sure if she wanted to be a mom, just knew she was grateful when Peter had let her be the closest thing to one she could offer. Mary had been a good friend to her before she died, trusted her with her baby in the delivery room and then again when she couldn’t be there for him. Part of her had dread when Peter would grow up and make a family of his own, because it would leave her alone again.
she hadn’t known how terribly wrong she would be.
her own hair was almost completely gray these days and she loved it, Peter’s far ashier then it ever used to be, but then there was Mayday’s; she was so young. That girl was a whole adult these days, well past the awkward teenage years when spider-woman was all long legs and elbows like bambi. Still, it didn’t feel like much of a surprise when she came home to her apartment that was so quiet these days, and was greeted with her form on the couch.
‘ bambina? ’ May called softly, not wanting to startle. A gentle arm rest between Mayday’s shoulder blades and rubbed gently, manoeuvring around to sit on the edge of the seat next to her. A worried frown creased the corners of her eyes, ‘ what’s wrong honey? ’
@ziaorsa sent: “ of course i came for you… it would take far much more than that to stop me. ” {{ okay but May showing up after a fight just to take care of Margot }}
Really, Margot should have known better than to doubt that May would be there when they got back. Peter likely contacted her as soon as he found out that she’d been seriously injured. It wasn’t that Margot was bad about going to medical - it was that she adamantly refused to go. The only way they got her there was if she was unconscious, and for that to happen, things were undeniably dire. Alternatively, if May took care of her outside of a hospital setting, Margot usually did just fine. She knew that this time she wasn’t going to get out of the latter, despite her best efforts, but at least she was getting May out of the deal.
“S’a stab wound,” she explained helpfully. Which was why she was absolutely going to end up in the medical wing, because though she was a super soldier with super healing, deep stab wounds were still a serious injury that required serious medical attention. “Glad they let you come,” Magot admitted, words starting to slur together with all the blood loss.
It wasn’t that Margot didn’t trust people, except that was exactly what it was, and her trust in medical professionals was next to zero. With her experiences, she found that being anywhere near the medical wing still could set off a panic attack - even when she wasn’t the patient. So outside of emergencies, Margot was typically checked over in the common area of the compound by Bruce and administered first aide there. This clearly required more than a band aid or even a couple stitches. Whether she liked it or not, even Margot knew she was going to need surgery.
♡ - it was never pleasant. Just for a moment May allowed herself to grumble silently that she was never called at three am because her family were in desperate need of a tutorial on how to best angle a candid photo. Then the girl was talking to May and she snapped out of it, hands coming to rest on the young ones shoulders to steady her. Ducking her head, she met the other’s pupils, not blown out so no worries of a severe concussion; then May registered that she had had to duck and blinked at the way she was slumping.
‘ oh cazzo, tesoro, dobbiamo farti entrare adesso, ’ the woman murmured mostly to herself but aware Margot’s ears would pick it up anyway. Crouching down, she pressed gentle fingers around the edges of the wound; the reaction wasn’t good. Waving a hand to one of the interns darting about, May signalled for him to bring over a wheelchair and scooted it towards the other woman.
her hands moved to her hips and she tilted her head to the side, ‘ okay bambina, scale of one to ten, how anxious are you feeling? ’
there was a plan in mind for each number of the scale; they ranged from one- May would hold Margot’s hand while they operated, to ten- May would talk her through the entire process before very gently using their strongest anaesthetic to knock Margot out. The plans in the middle were easier to mitigate, easier to pull off without head surgeons and physicians getting in her way; for the most part she was one of the most respected people amongst them as head nurse of the emergency room.
@ziaorsa asked: ❛ just for once , will you please listen to me & do as you are told ? ❜ // there’s always a downside ( warehouse 13 starters )
SUDDEN RUSH OF GUILT hits him in the gut as soon as she says it, pausing his string of explanations and excuses as silence fills the room instead— Peter knows he worries her, this is WHY he’s tried so hard to keep as much about his superhero endeavors from his aunt as possible. They’ve been through so much, she’s been through so much, and Peter can’t afford to just make things WORSE by having her worry about him all the time. But, still, he can’t hide anything, and with his tendency to push himself to the brink… that whole plan ends up backfiring on him sometimes.
“Y- yeah… yeah, I…I will.” Peter nods, pausing for a deep breath before averting his gaze to the side— he should have considered this more, should have thought about how this much sneaking out and keeping secrets would effect her. Except, he doesn’t know how else to handle all of this, the already shaky balance between all aspects of his life escaping his grip entirely. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to… y’know, it’s just been, uh…a lot, right now, you know?”
♡ - her own brand of guilt swallowed her and May held up her shaking hands, trying to pause the constant rush of fears that ran through her head as all of the anger evaporated instantly. Inhaling through her nose; 1... 2... 3... 4... Hold it; 1... 2... 3... 4... Exhale through her mouth; 1... 2... 3... 4... and repeat. The box breathing gave her a moment to let herself think clearly. It would do her bambino no good to stress over things beyond her control, things even he only had a tentative grip on. Richard’s boy through and through, more than a little of Ben’s boy as well, so much weight on his shoulders it was a miracle he could lift it.
it wasn’t Peter’s job to worry about what she was feeling, wasn’t his duty to change for her sake, his only responsibility should be on the things he chose to cope with. He already had more on his plate then anyone his age should have to deal with- lost more too. Her head shook, a motion that sent brown hair twirling around her shoulders, she had been finding more and more grays in it lately. Her eyes found his again and she gave him a small smile, ‘ don’t be sorry, okay? you’re doing so good, mio caro. I am so proud of you, but you have to take better care of yourself, non negotiable. ’

♡ - it was hard to swallow past the lump in her throat, fingers twined around her friends tightly as they sat in the small examination room. May was still wearing scrubs, name tag hanging limply from her pocket. Shaking her head, she tapped the screen of the ultrasound scan with a short nail, ‘ because eventually we get this- we go through all the hard things and eventually we get something amazing. You have something amazing right now, Pepper. ’

‘ oh bambino ragno, ’ May whispered gently, placing the back of her palm against her grandniece’s forehead for a moment- not too hot, there wasn’t much reason to worry about infection in the litany of cuts and bruises covering her. She pulled up the sleeves of her shirt before pulling the packaging off of the paper stitches, reaching out to place them across the other’s forehead. They were sat on the orange couch in her living room, May’s greying brown hair falling in their typical loose curls around her face when she had found the girl, hurting by the looks of it. With all the gentleness she could offer after an eighteen hour night shift, May hummed a soft lullaby under her breath.
‘ you don’t have to be sad, this wasn’t your responsibility baby. ’
+ It hadn’t been the GREATEST showing as Spiderling that Annie had ever had . Sure, the villain had taken a BEATING on his own, but she hadn’t been able to SEAL the deal and bring him in . She could only imagine how much more EFFORT her mom and dad were going to have to EXERT in order to try and catch him. She hadn’t bothered to try and work her way out of her damaged costume, already knowing it was going to be out of COMISSION for a while. Much like she suspected she herself was going to be , if her parents had their WAY .
“ I should have been faster … “ She mumbled, trying her best to maintain a FRONT that didn’t show much the various injuries were actually HURTING .
♡ - ‘ bambina, that isn’t what you need to worry about right now, ’ May tutted, moved closer to her grandbaby, and offered out a hand to guide her inside of the apartment.
Annie looked hurt, even if May ignored the tears and soft bloodstains spreading through the fabric, the way she held herself- It was all too familiar. There had been a baby girl Peter hadn’t been able to save once and he had acted the same for the next two months. Swallowing, the nurse gave her a gentle smile, meant to soothe before curling and uncurling the fingers over her outstretched palm- beckoning her to take it.
‘ how can you be faster next time, if you don’t let somebody watch out for you now? ’
"These are for you, Aunt May," she explained, giving her the two wrapped gifts with a smile. The box contained a thermal mug - good for long hours at the hospital - that was white and had a black cat face peaking up the side. The small box had a necklace with a rose quartz heart attached - the universal sign of unconditional love. "I thought of you when I saw them," she admitted with a smile.
|| @wintershieldedheart ||
♡ - tutting at the boxes pressed gently into her hands, May frowned fondly at her niece in law, the presents not unexpected but not something she wanted her family to spend their money on. The mug made her smile, it would fit right in amongst the litany of other nurses thermoses without getting mixed up with someone else’s drink. She opened the smaller box more carefully, pulling the necklace out with an almost silent gasp. Immediately, May clasped it around her neck, ignoring the wetness on her lashes as she listened to it settle next to the ring that hung on the other chain over her heart. Brown eyes met Margot’s with an inaudible sigh, ‘ you shouldn’t have, topolina, but they are beautiful gifts. Hai un'anima gentile. ’
leaning over to the tree, May pulled out two parcels, carefully placing them in front of the young woman. The bigger wrapped in silver paper with white snowflakes, the other in gold paper with yellow bells. Underneath silver paper was a set of paints, identical to the ones May had treated herself to with her first paycheck, they had lasted her for years and the process of painting was so easy to fall into when she was stressed. The smaller gift was an eight by eight canvas May had painted of her bambinos dancing at a gala- it had been a beautiful moment.
squeezing the stone in the palm of her hand, pressed over her chest in awe and admiration, May held her arms out to offer Margot a hug, ‘happy holidays, bambino. ’

♡ - her fingers wound carefully through his hair. It was curlier now and she wondered if he had decided he preferred it that way or whether he had stopped having time to do anything but the necessities in the morning. May hummed gently, an Italian lullaby that tugged at a memory of her mama tucking her and her sister to bed. It was soft and gentle, spoke of flickering stars and dark nights and had never failed to make her baby sister calm down. Unfortunately there was a difference between June Reilly realising she forgot her stuffed puppy and Peter Parker going through life altering trauma.
may dropped a kiss on his forehead before pushing him back from the hug she had locked him in to look at the young one in examination. Her brow furrowed at the tear tracks on his cheeks and she sighed softly, moving both of her hands to his shoulders, ‘ what’s going on Peter? What can I do to make this better cucciolo? ’
ziaorsa :// aunt may.
her hands wouldn’t move, couldn’t lift to drop across her eyes with the usual tired frustration waking up brought. They felt too heavy, weighed down with a… something that scratched under her skin sharply. It made her nose scrunch up as she blinked to consciousness. With a start she realised that that wasn’t her bedroom ceiling, wasn’t unfamiliar though- oh.
oh…
all at once she remembered. Something had been in her apartment, fighting Spider-Man, he had blown the whole place up and she had landed hard on rubble which jostled the newly acquired stab wounds. She couldn’t imagine how busy the rest of the emergency room was. Pausing, she reconsidered, couldn’t imagine how hurt she had been for them to have processed her up.
may would have called it a day then and there, shut her eyes and made the best of the floating buzz flickering through her in the way that only morphine did, but that’s when she saw him. For some reason, it didn’t scare her to notice the floating octopus man, instead she considered him for a minute before trying to regain control of her dry tongue.
‘ did you name your tentacles? ’
she speaks, and immediately his children are moving.
one moves to the the window, sliding it open. another shifts to the door, blocking it with its unfurled petals. despite their frantic movements, however, otto himself does not budge. he and rose remain still, sightless eyes and bright red optic locked directly onto the poor woman. his shoulders sag. his face softens.
“wouldn’t you name your children, my dear?” reaching out, he grabs a chair and pulls it over. otto settles himself in carefully. he winces at the stress on his stomach. rose herself settles in his open palm, chittering gently. “they are all sentient. sapient, even. they have the minds of toddlers. wouldn’t it be cruel to leave them without some sort of identity?”
his arms retract, choosing now to scan over the woman. after a moment or two, lefty reaches out and grabs the hospital cup sitting next to her desk. he passes it to otto, who offers it to her.
“here. drink slowly, now. you… you are quite injured. but you’ll be all right.”
♡ - she wondered if it’s Louisa on shift tonight, that woman always went a little heavy handed with the morphine. This was a hallucination, or at least it seemed like one, but May knew hallucinations couldn’t do tangible things and she also knew she was pretty solidly tethered to the bed; still, the window opened- no, one of the... children? opened the window. There was no point trying to ignore what she was seeing.
‘ are you okay? ’ May asked softly, hand extending towards him at his wince.
may considers his words, watching as one of them- the name already slipping from her mind even as she grasped for it to come back- settled in his palm. Wouldn’t you name your children? The question swirls around her head, digs at something uncomfortable that she can’t decipher before she attempted a shrug and tried to meet his eyes, ‘ I always thought I would adopt if I was going to have children. ’
his point still stood though and she nodded, names were important, gave people a link to what mattered. With no small amount of effort, May hauled herself into a sitting position, taking the water with gentle hands and a grateful hum.
‘ what are they called? ’
♡ - what is your dark love language?
an undoing influence
Can someone tell you what to do? You have been carrying so much love within you for so long it is starting to turn into anger (why does it matter, all you see is red anyways) and you have been dragging this body through each day and every night you are split open on your bed and it is so so so lonely. If someone were to walk in while you were on your bed that way and they stitched you back in a new way, lining the seams with their love and kisses, you’d probably find this dreary world a little more bearable. You want someone to turn you over and over until you look in the mirror and see yourself looking back at yourself with a gentleness which has been lacking in you since forever.

they may not remember peter, but that in no way keeps peter from remembering them. his friends, his girlfriend. his aunt. the only family he has left in his life, and she has forgotten his very existence. but that doesn’t mean they can truly stop caring about each other.
and that’s why he’s here now, crawling through the hospital window. the room is dark, empty, aside from the sleeping woman. no doctors or nurses. the only sound, the gentle beeping of her medical equipment. it’s enough to make his chest tighten.
“rose?”
the claw peaks from behind his shoulder, then slithers forward. data appears at the front of otto’s mind; heart rate, cortisol levels, current morphine dosage. she is alive. she will survive. that much, he can tell peter.
“thank you, my dear.”
rose chitters gently in reply.
