Chapter 4:Let’s meet in the middle and wait
Summary:Gerard spends summer with you and your mom and goes to a carnival!
Author’s notes:Hi! I’m back! I hope you enjoy🫶🏻 this is kind of a filler chapter (wrote this because I couldn’t get this daydream out of my head) But next chapter things will continue on with Gerard’s mission. Enjoy!
Summer was nice for some. No school. Vacations. Pesky cold was away. And families visited the beach. It seemed like everyone liked summer…All but Gerard. It reminded him too much of home and the heat. “You’re sure the water won’t go away right?” He asked you. “Yes Gee. Water isn’t going anywhere.” “But it’s hot!” “Yes but there is in no way going to be a drought here. Okay? I promise.” You held up your pinky to which Gerard linked it. You then kissed your pinkies.
Your mom soon walked in. She said good morning to the both of you and started reading the paper. You were off of work so you were in no rush to get through breakfast.
Gerard smacked his arm for a mosquito was biting him. “Ugh…What good do these pesky things do?” He said. Your mother chuckled as she saw Gerard’s arms covered in mosquito bites. “Hold on I have some calamine lotion that should help.” “What’s that?” He asked. You reply, “It helps with mosquito bites.” “Good…”
Your mother leaves to go get the calamine lotion leaving you and Gerard alone. You ruffle his hair a bit and ask, “Any progress?” “Yes.” “You going home soon?” Gerard paused then nodded. You held his hand. “Isn’t that a good thing?” “You and your mother won’t be there.” “I get that but we’re not like you...” You whisper that last part. Gerard huffed and said, “I know but…” He didn’t finish his sentence.
You kissed his hand gently. “It’s okay.” You say. Your eyes then wander on the newspaper. After a while your mother comes in with the lotion. She gently applies it on Gerard’s hands and even a bit on his face. “There, hon. You feel better?” “Feel slimey…” Your mother giggled and said, “It’s supposed to help. Just give it some time okay?”
You then got up. “Gee! Look!” You showed him a column in the newspaper. It was about a carnival. “What’s that?” “A carnival! You go on rides, play games, and eat yummy food!” Human food was already good as it was. But Gerard hadn’t heard of the food you were describing like funnel cake, lemonade, and caramel apples. He really wanted to try caramel apples.
You turn to your mom and say, “We should go mom! I think the both of you would enjoy it.” Your mother thought for a bit then smiled. “Aw what the hell. Let’s go!”
It is now later in the evening. You held Gerard’s hand through the crowd. He was a little nervous about this because of all the people but you assured him things would be okay. Your mother thought it was cute you were holding hands. She didn’t know yet about your relationship. You decided to keep it a secret. Gerard would be going home soon and she became attached to him. Once he left you all didn’t know when he’d be back.
You rushed Gerard over to some roller coaster that didn’t look safe at all. You sat in the cart and he sat next to you. “Okay put this on it’s kind of like driving a car you gotta put the seatbelt on.” You instructed. Then the ride took off quickly. Gerard screamed but it was a happy scream. He felt like he was back on the spaceship just arriving home. You held onto him for you were a little scared and he held you tight.
After the ride he was practically jumping up and down. “Again! Can we go again?” He asked. You looked at how many tickets you had. “Sure!” You said.
You went on that ride at least three more times…You then felt on the verge of throwing up so that’s when you decided to tap out. Gerard was fine with that and off you were. You decided to get some food while your mother sat at a bench. You arrived back and Gerard was eating his stuff fast. You giggled, “Slow down, Gee! You could choke!” “It’s just so good!” He said. Your mother laughed as she watched him scarf down his corn dog.
After a while Gerard also had to tap out from eating because his stomach started to hurt. “Told you should’ve slow down.” You murmur. You hand him your lemonade. “Here…Drink some. But slow!” He took a sip of your lemonade and felt better.
You and Gerard were now on a Ferris wheel. You were so high up Gerard was looking up at the sky. It was night time so all the stars were out. You looked with him. “…You think one of those stars is your family?” “No…It’s not…But thanks for trying to cheer me up I guess.” You look at Gerard. “Why couldn’t they just come here?” He gave you a look. “I’m already embarrassing myself everyday what makes you think they’d be any better?” “Okay you got me…Just a thought.” It was quiet.
“Gee.” “Yes?” “…I love you.” His eyes got wide. You two had kissed secretly and done…Other stuff.
But hearing you say that out loud? “Yeah?” He asked. “Not going to say it back?” “No.” “At least you’re honest.” “I don’t want to get attached.” “You already did.” Gerard rolled his eyes. You leaned in and kissed his lips. Then? Fireworks went off to which he got scared. You giggled and said, “Hey! It’s okay…It’s just fireworks. Look how nice they are.” He looks over and sees them. They were nice…
You place a kiss on his head and say, “Even if you don’t say it I still love you…I understand why you’re not saying it…But I want you to know how I feel.” “I know.” Gerard said. As the two of you reached the end of the ride and were heading home you say, “Awww Gee! You didn’t get to try a caramel apple!” Gerard got a little upset…Until your mother held one out. “Here you go sweetie!” She said. “Aw ma’am! You’re the best!” He said while hugging your mother. “When are you two going to get married? I need a son-in-law like him!” Your mother said.
The two of you just played it off…But you knew that wasn’t set in stone. No matter how much you loved him.
