When Geralt and Jaskier first start dating, Geralt isn't sure what to call him in public. Every time someone asked him who Jaskier was, he stuttered anxiously before saying boyfriend, and partner sounded too serious. He was also extremely worried that linking someone like "him", a witcher, someone people were afraid of, to Jaskier, might make people dislike Jaskier and he really didn't want that. He was spending so much time stuttering and worrying about the situation, that he then got worried Jaskier would think he was hiding it, or that he didn't want people to know. Eventually, Geralt started replying with "he's my bard".
At first, Jaskier laughed when he said it, but then it grew on him and he became precious of the term. It was the 'my' part. He belonged to Geralt. It made him feel protected. He'd never heard Geralt be so protective of anything, but if someone began a conversation with Jaskier, that phrase, this is my bard was uttered, it would send shivers through Jaskiers body.
If someone questioned it, Jaskier would jump in, not only defending his title, but making sure Geralts feelings were never hurt. Making sure Geralt wouldn't have to explain himself or get anxious.
"what does that mean, your bard? Are you together or-"
"I'M HIS BARD. WHAT OTHER INFORMATION DO YOU NEED?"
One day, this situation arose again. People questioning them. Jaskier jumping in with his usual none of your business replies, an absolutely feral rant, when Geralt quietly and calmly leaned into the table, and responded;
"I wouldn't argue, my boyfriend is not afraid and very capable of taking every one of you."
Jaskier, stopping mid finger point at a man twice his size, and double taking Geralt. The men leaving the table in an absolute confused rage.
"You surprise me every day, my witcher."
