thanks for the post on parse tbh like I think he definitely has his own shit going on and I can empathize with that but that doesn't excuse giving your ex a panic attack?? I feel like the fandom makes kent out to be a better person than he might actually be. He's a complex character which makes him more realistic but he's definitely fucked up and people need to do better than just letting it slide bc he's their white fave so he can never do anything unforgivable

jack zimmermann is white, and i’ll be the first to admit that he’s my fave (because as someone with anxiety who feels enormous pressure to succeed in a particular field due to previous family performance, i relate to him very much), but when people call kent parson a “white fave” they’re specifically referring to the fact that this character has had, like, seven lines in canon and appeared in about as many panels, yet this fandom continues to adore him, excuse his terrible actions, and completely ignore far more fleshed-out and important characters of color in the comic. @peachbittle had a great post breaking down the amount of fic on ao3 that was focused on kent parson versus the nonwhite characters of check please. it’s ridiculously disproportionate. now, jack surely benefits in white fandom due to his whiteness, but imo it is not exaggerated to the amount that it is with kp. this phenomenon is not limited to check, please, either–look at the star wars fandom and how often it ignores finn and poe’s frankly wonderful characters in favor of woobifying kylo ren and general hux for literally no reason. look at the fucking part of tumblr made up of white girls fawning over real-life white serial killers and calling them their murder babies or whatthefuckever. obviously i’m not accusing kp fans of being as bad as all THAT (those people are on another fucking level entirely), but imo it comes from the same root: unconscious (or sometimes even conscious) racism. so when people call kent parson a white fave, they don’t mean that it’s a character they like that happens to be white. they mean he is a character that benefits enormously from his whiteness and gets away with what a nonwhite character never could. (ofc, i’m white, so if poc in fandom feel i’m incorrect here, please let me know.)

nursey week day 1 - silence

Nursey hadn’t prepared for how weird this would feel. He only played with Jack for one year, after all. He shouldn’t be that weirded out by seeing him across the ice during warm-ups. He is, though, and he’s not quite sure why. Maybe it’s because Jack was his first real captain, or maybe Jack had pretty much become synonymous with NHL for Nursey these past three years. Like playing Jack makes it official, like he’s really in the big leagues now.

He’s more nervous than he’d like to admit.

Jack talks to him a little during warm-ups, both of them standing at center ice. It’s mostly terrible chirps on Jack’s end and then a weird, tense moment where Jack had said “Welcome to the show, Nursey,” and patted him on the back and Nursey had to remember that he’s not supposed to cry on the ice, especially before the game even starts.
