The glass dome of the Galeries Lafayette.
Today Auriane brought me to the famous grands magasins (department stores) of Paris: Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. We took le métro to the Opéra station, which true to its name, delivered us to just outside the Palais Garnier, the magnificent Opera House of Paris (and one of Auriane and her friends' favorite haunts, once again proving that I can never hope to be as effortlessly chic as she.)
As you can see from the picture, the architectural wonder did not end at the Opera House. Parisian history seems to penetrate every aspect of society so that even passive consumerism is made into a rich cultural experience.
We left after an hour or so of browsing, me with a new shirt, and Auriane with what seemed to be a bland denim button-down but which she (of course) easily transformed into the most versatile of garments.
