The smudge is the ISS.
The best spot to take pictures of the moon is where the shadow line is. You are able to pick up the creators much more easily without all the light bouncing back.
This was the clearest shot I could get at 25mm of Mars. Trying to find stuff in space at 10mm while looking through the LCD screen from the camera is damn near impossible. I don’t know if it is because there is less light coming through the 10mm...who knows. Anyways, I didn’t realize when I zoomed in on the picture I actually picked up some thing behind Mars which I think is pretty damn cool. No polar caps though :/ (The top picture is the original picture at 25mm while the bottom is zoomed in on the top picture.)
Some different shot I took of the moon. Not to bad for an amateur astrophotographer.

Gorgeous time-lapse picture during the 2010 Equinox with the Sun directly overhead. The equatorial location allows the photographer to show both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the sky together.
