Yamachichi

A dangerous, life-force stealing creature native to Japan, it is believed by some that they are cousins to Dementors, though this is impossible to prove. Yamachichi are rarely seen but are described as appearing rather like large monkeys. When feeding they perch on their victim’s chest and suck out the individual’s life force, a little each night, until the individual is dead. In this manner their magic is closer to that of the Fae Leannan Sidhe (and it is indeed speculated that Youkai may be in some manner related to Fae and vice versa), as it appears their particular way of draining life force is very similar to a Leannan Sidhe’s ability to take years from someone’s lifespan.

Yamachichi have been known to, undisturbed, drain someone of life over only the course of one evening and are believed to be the cause of a number of mysterious deaths, rather as Lethifolds are blamed for a number of mysterious disappearances. Yamachichi however are much easier to stop than Lethifolds - where Lethifolds must be warded off with a Patronus, Yamachichi need only be disturbed before they finish draining life and tap their victim’s chest. Should the Yamachichi be disturbed before this point the creature, in apparent shock, seems to effectively vomit up the life force it has stolen as well as some of it’s own, and those survivors of Yamachichi attacks are known to have remarkably long lifespans, even for wixes.
