I was commenting on a post about "Simon becoming the Tree" and was smacked in the face with this reality

This is a documented behavior of trees: they will grow their trunk and bark around things left on them. There's multiple examples on the internet.

And it got me thinking on this post here, where I pointed how the Seedling metabolizing the Light could have awakened it and how @water-activated-light pointed this type of journey for the seedling through chaos magick lenses

The Red Eyed God saw only Simon violence and called him Butcher and started changing him through the Blood, possibly to turn him into the next Eel, possibly something else.

The Seedling *experimented* first hand Simon's gentleness and care, was cradled in his hand and observed with so much ache and pain and sadness and felt his grief over a Brother from Eden he probably met but isn't sure who is, dangling from his wrist, a source of comfort and hope, anchoring him when he traversed the Light. And then when it *very possibly* gained awareness and the power to *grow strong and fierce*, the Blood was attacking him and the Eel was biting into the SM-13 and the Seedling returned it all, growing into and around Simon, cradling him inside its trunk the same way Simon cradled it when it was just a Seedling inside Glass, when It was fragile, destroying the Eel biting at the SM-13. Simon is now the fragile one and the Tree once a Seedling is returning the care.

The Red Eyed God saw and loved Simon's violence that he wanted desperately to let go and wanted, apparently, more of it. Wanted to change Simon, blind him (th Shadowman has no eyes), give him fangs, make him a weapon.

The Seedling Now A Tree *experimented* Simon's love and gentleness and care and protection and pain, all symbols of who he most desperately wanted to be, and returned all this, and did the only thing it could to protect and save him once it could: grew around him, turned him a part of it, where apparently the Blood can't touch him.

God I love the seedling and all your posts about it. If the seedling is hope, then the pinhole god is hopelessness - more that that, actually, it’s active defeatism. It sees a fraction of the world through a pinhole and makes up its mind based on that. It saw only the violence in Simon, the butcher, and tried to limit him to that. The seedling interrupts the transformation of Simon into the shadowman and grows around him instead. Because it sees his whole being. It sees his gentleness too. I have strong feelings about this seedling

"A Dream of Home" - Art and Blurb

"Sometimes, Simon dreamed of Home.

Not Eden Station and the Brotherhood of Eden. Not on the best dreams.

No. He dreamed of Mars and the small comfortable unity he and his mom used to live, under one of the domes.

Wide reinforced windows showing the sky and all the other buildings.

The red sky during the day.

The light blue sunset and the small yellow sun dipping in the red horizon beyond the dome.

He missed that pure, unfiltered blue. Nothing had that same blue in Eden Station or anywhere else.

The orchard of pluots and maples, visible just at the edge of the windows.

Dry flat bread covered in maple syrup, dark and shiny, the syrupy sweet smell floating up.

Simon always knew he was dreaming when he bit into the flat bread and the syrup touched his tongue: sweet, yes, but a slight iron aftertaste, like licking a cut on the finger.

The maple syrup in Mars didn't have that.

The maple syrup from the Last Tree in Eden did.

Then he would notice the seedling pendant on his wrist, and the illusion would break, and he would wake up."

About the art: the fruits in the bowl are dapple dandy pluot, a variety of plum + apricot hybrids; the bigger white flowers with red-pink centers are the flowers that appear in these trees, as far as I was able to research. I choose a hybrid fruit and flower to represent the duality that Simon is, his past of violence and his easy to anger together with his gentleness and the fact that he doesn't want to be like this anymore. The blue flowers are Lewis Blue Flax and Brunnera, chosen because of the blue shade to compliment the attempt to bring the light-blue sunset in Mars. Some of the leaves are from Boxelder Maple, one of the possibilities of "from which tree is the seedling"

So, this started inspired by the line "Go on then, Icarus, Take your turn, You'll never go through them" from Icarus by Starset, which imho is a song that really fits Simon.

THEN as the paint progressed it def took more turns of "Simon is watching through the porthole and something is watching back".

Maybe in the future I'll add a suggestion of the Red Eyed God reflection in the glass at the future.

We know Simon was losing chunks of time during this sequence, and we, the audience, are getting whiplashed around scenes, so I wonder just how long he was here in reality... dissociating, staring at the wall, jumping at auditory hallucinations, in complete silence, wasting that oxygen.

It's one of the first big "mental shutdown" moments we see from Simon. He's buzzed after that alcohol shot, starting to deal with micro-sleeps from exhaustion, and...

He just sat there. For who knows how long. Just sat.

I'm wondering if TGWTYCW sat in that same chair and did the same thing. Just sat there and let his oxygen go out.

i think its fun when people use the trope of vampires thinking that werewolves smell like shit but its especially funny to me when they say a werewolf smells like 'wet dog' . like specifically WET dog? not dry dog? something about werewolves makes them smell damper than any normal dog even if theyre dry as a bone? fascinating implications. wet werewolf vs creepy vampire. much to consider.
