like many horror afficionados i find the whole "i only like horror when it has Themes and Psychology" argument from people who know nothing about the genre grating because horror has had Themes and Psychology way before its "elevated" version started spoonfeeding its audience. but when they take mike flanagan's work as a prime example of masterfully deep horror i have to laugh. or i would if they didn't keep giving him some of the most important works of the genre to adapt
