!!surprise to no one!! crying during zuko/iroh reconciliation scene during series finale rewatch.
forgive me if I like zukka/azutara/anything straying from my personal canon from time to time what can i say im a shipping connoisseur i'll send love to good content
You’ve heard of “doomed by the narrative,” now get ready for “doomed by the creators who hate them together.”
bryke is really so annoying and film-bro-y sometimes (this is my project what I say goes) they're not helping in the death of the author debate
zuko is so cool i wish guys going through self-redefining character arcs were real
i don’t care if zutara was ever a possibility in the writing room or not. i don’t care if i’m making the ship up in my head. at the end of the day only one person in the gaang was willing to stand for some good first degree murder just to make katara feel a little better, and it’s not aang. the end
ATLA Re-renaissance
Proud to be living in another renaissance of avatar:the last airbender (previously seen once put on netflix during covid) brought by the upcoming release of the legend of aang. wow there are some good edits on instagram reels right now.
also: please don't pirate this film! i'm usually the #1 advocate for pirating but in these trying times where studios are taking less gambles on anything please try and wait till it's on streaming/in theatres (i really want in theaters). and that's the end of the psa from your local film nerd (also zutara nerd)
update: rereading his majesty prefers blue by cablesscutie on fanfiction.net (also, i believe, on ao3). yeah y'all really gotta get on this shit it's one of the greatest pieces of fiction ever surmised.
yeah it's starts a bit slow and cliche but when it get's going it's iconic.
Proper Dynamics
I think one of the best things about coming to fanfiction is already knowing the characters to know bullshit when you see it. Like sometimes it's almost so funny when they get them wrong.
I think, especially with Zutara, getting the dynamics of two both very strong characters (and that's part of the appeal) within themselves on top of their interactions right is the crux on everything.
So frequently, especially with the romance community, it's very easy to make the mmc strong/overdominant/toxic and the fmc the overly submssive, caring type (not that there's anything wrong with being caring, feminine, etc). I think that's especially dangerous in general but it's just plain wrong when it comes to Zutara. I think the problems with fics like "My Heart Burns for You" on AO3 and even things like "Call Me Katto" on ff.net is a mischaracterization of both characters when it comes to their core (because there is characterization that changes, especially with AU's--but an example of someone doing this wrong is Pride and Prejudice to Twilight to Fifty Shades of Grey).
I think some especially good fics that get them right seperately and then together (definitely, of course, recommend) is "His Majesty Prefers Blue" on ff.net (and AO3), "The Island That Cleanses" (ff.net), and the "Roots & Wings" series on AO3. Let me know what you think! This is pretty make or break for me.
if i am expert on anything it is zutara and thus this is the blog to explore that
