surely im not the only one who dislikes the noli me tangere adaptation, maria clara at ibarra? of all the ways we could've adapted it, it had to be an isekai
i feel like the isekai idea was put in so that we could sort of put ourselves in the shoes of klay? almost like a y/n blank slate character. problem is that klay was a bit unrelatable since she had her own quirks and backstory so it didn't feel like a blank slate character anymore. so now it js feels like a little kid's fantasy now personally.
they also ruined the characters, which i didn't like. fidel and klay are cute as a period drama, i guess? but i dont think they should've been the stars of.. yk, NOLI ME TANGERE AND EL FILIBUSTERISMO? i wouldve liked to see fidel and klay in maybe some other cute historical romcom story. but not in el fili please. it's called maria clara at ibarra, not klay and fidel..
also fun fact my mom used to study at the school that klay canonically goes to :) its plm btw

good point ! the whole point of noli me tangere and el filibusterismo is meant to be a commentary of the colonization experience by the filipinos by the spaniards during the era rizal was writing in. taking that out of two stories that literally thrive on that idea is just.. weird. it's romanticizing the story too much to the point it doesn't feel like the same story. i think if someone were to make an isekai idea like mcai for noli and el fili, it would be VERY important to emphasize the revolution aspect of it.
rizal deserves a good adaptation of his stories. removing the actual historical issues and the very reason why he wrote the stories isn't what he deserves.
