DIY edition.

The book is one form. The chapters in your hands, photocopied at the cheapest place you can find, folded into zines, walked into every room that has spent the last decade telling people like me to behave, are another. The collection exists so it can be taken apart and put back together as ammunition. Make the argument show up where the scene has spent years making sure it doesn’t.

Pick the chapter that names the thing you’ve been told to stop naming. Photocopy it. Half-letter folded works fine. Saddle-stitched quarter-letter if you want something that fits in a back pocket. Black ink, cheap paper. Don’t make it precious. Make it abundant. Fifty copies cost less than dinner.

Take the stack into the rooms that have stopped letting you breathe. The reading series that platforms the same six writers who can be trusted not to make trouble. The mutual aid meeting where the loudest voice decides who gets care. The community center that calls itself a home and treats the people walking in as case files. The bookstore, the bar, the gig, the conference

Leave copies on the table where free zines are kept, tucked inside books on the shelf, taped to bulletin boards. Mail them directly to the writers and organizers whose careers were built on the failures the chapters describe. Hand them to the new girl before someone gets to her with the orientation speech about what we don’t say here

When the response comes, and it will, do not get apologetic. Ruthless criticism of everything existing is the line

This is what propaganda is for. The book exists so it can be cut up and used. Put it back into the air the scene has been keeping closed.
