#139: Long time no see! Today, I’m thankful that my friend reminded me of this blog- and that I have it to both look back on and document some happy moments ❤️

Here are some other things I’m thankful for today:

1. Bricolage takeout dinner with Andy! Lots of good conversations at the dinner table.

2. Launching the photo journal phase of Nice Newsletter on IG! It was scary to separate my photo fun from my professional work- and I still worry about it haha- but I’m also loving the freedom that comes with posting my shots for fun!

3. Sailing last weekend and the excitement of going away with Andy soon to Block!

First off, I’m thankful for this blog! For keeping it and for coming back to it- so wonderful to read all the things I have been thankful for over the years, large and small.

Today I am thankful for an uplifting phone call with my Mom, a great podcast on happiness and mindset, my husband cooking and cleaning for me while I swam, and for the random women I socialized with in the sauna. They invited me to a dance class- maybe I’ll go after the Chicago Marathon!

135: A small sliver of a silver lining

Hey hey! So.. election did not go as i had wished, and the world seems to be more filled with anger and hate than i could have imagined. That being said, I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so many loving, accepting, diverse, and strong friends and family. 

I will continue to try and do my best to support vulnerable communities at this time, including producing an art exhibit with Noumenal Space to raise funds and awareness for various human rights organizations.

#133. Marathon Mondays and hitching rides

Hey guys! Well, it has been a crazy couple of months. I had surgery after breaking my foot bouldering, and now I’m in my 6th week of non-weight bearing movement. Read: crutches and scooters.

To this end, there are a lot of things to be thankful for! Besides my hero fiance doing literally everything for me, I have also been hitching rides with a kind coworker every morning. 

It’s also Marathon Monday here in NYC, so I’m loving how inspiring the running community is right now. Can’t wait to get back!

#131. Meditation

Happy Afternoon!!

For the past month, my workplace has offered meditation and mindfulness classes- and today I finally took the practice home.

I have dabbled in meditation for a couple of years, but it was nice to have mindfulness be apart of the dialog. We practiced staying present, and learned about all the benefits to a steady meditation practice.

So, this morning, I made time for myself to meditate before work. Having just returned from vacation, I wanted to zap any back-to-work-load-anxiety that might interfere with my productivity. 

I am really happy i carved out the time to do so and that’s why meditation is my #131 thing i am thankful for today!

#130- Thankful for all the family time!

Guys, I have been running around like a crazy person. First, I surprised my brother at his college graduation (so proud!), then flew down to SC for my cousins wedding. We spend the long weekend on the beach, surfing, and fishing.

The upside of the nasty weather (read: rain everyday) was that we got to see double rainbows and dolphins on the daily! Check out some the pics and remember to stay super stoked/thankful!

(Cool) Kids on the Block #129

had a bunch of hits, Chinese food makes me sick Sorry! I digress...

Andy and I have recently pledged to devote one day a week to creating random art! So far, it usually involves a little painting session in the morning (my jam), and then picking a neighborhood to explore with our cameras (his jam). 

I have lived in Brooklyn eleven !!!!! years and frankly, feel like i know the place inside and out. Not that I ever really stop to look at it, honestly. We are always running-to or running-by something. Learning to work a camera has made me stop and take a longer look. Mostly because I have to fiddle with the thing for an hour. But still...

Take all these awesome walls for example! So many of the iconic NYC scenes are grey,  but my city is full of hot pinks, neon greens, cool blues, and screaming yellows. Into it.

My parents got me the coolest book when I went through my first street art phase in high school. Later, in college, I traveled through Europe and snapped a good portion of graffiti. We even ended up following one artist from country to country (we must have had the same Euro Pass). Maybe one day I'll give it a go! 

Most of these graffiti gems are from Dumbo, Williamsburg, and Lefferts Gardens. Some are commissioned, some not. Enjoy!

This weekend was crazy! Full of LONGGGG travels, 2am arrivals, laughs, and friends! 

One of my best friends is getting hitched, so I booked a flight from NY to Pittsburg friday night after work. The trip was interesting- full of delays and long car rides- but worth it! It was awesome catching up with all the other bridesmaids and staying up late talking. I cant wait for all of us to get together again!

Traveling on a weekend turnaround can be exhausting (I want to sleep right now!) but it reminds me of how lucky I am to be able to make these plans in the first place. That’s why my crazy weekend of travel and friendship is my #128 thing i am thankful for!

Last year I was diagnosed with endometriosis, and have been getting my learning on ever sense. I have learned a lot of things, like how to be your own health advocate, and listen to your body. I have also learned that excess estrogen, which can lead to endo, can be increased by hormone-treated meat, and toxins in body wash and makeup (whatttttttt)...

I am super active (marathons, rock climbing, etc) and want to stay that way forever. So, naturally, I have started reading up on the wellness scene and processing it the best way i know how; through my artwork.

Besides sketching out all of my recent favorites on caitiedid, I also am starting a “Women’s Studies” illustration series:

#126. Big things and New Work!

Hey guys! Can you believe this blog has been around for so long?! YEARS AND YEARS! Crazy!! Lately, I have been focusing hard on creating new artwork, exploring my city in different ways, and getting inspired for some major projects coming down the pipe. Most of these updates have been refocused into my website, caitiedid.com! I love my new work and I hope you do too!

So now for the fun bit: 100ThankYous is getting a major revamp and a bit more attention. I started 100ThankYous in order to stop and smell the roses- to focus on the little random things that can make your day. I’ll still be doing that- but with more explanations, links, and goodies for you guys! Get pumped!

#125. SO MUCH

#124. Phelps, Michael Phelps.

EEEKK coupla weeks ago I could not link three laps. Last night I did 30, 72 in total without my legs! Next up, trying it in the surf…hopefully with full use of my legs.

Casually working towards this goal has given me faith in my body again so it is the #124 thing I’m thankful for today.

Somewhere between a sprained ankle and a surgery; weekend recap: -a free, live performance of Sweeney Tod with my friends (yaaaasssss) -running for the first time since the fall -climbing for the first time since the fall (my shoes still fit!..sorta) It's been a painful month, physically, but it's fun to focus on the sweet stuff. This is what i am thankful for!
