do you ever, like, think, about how so many people can’t sing in the shower because it would be embarrassing if anyone heard, and you can’t dance down the streets because people might think you’re weird, and you can’t make out with your partner on the train, and you can’t start a spontaneous drumming circle in a mall (and probably nobody would be brave enough to join in), and if you get emailed good news in the middle of a street you can’t suddenly jump up and down and punch the air and yell FUCK YEAH because - I don’t know why, I just feel incredibly inhibited about it

and in general all our social norms are set up to absolutely suffocate genuine expressions of joy and wonder and love, and people will defend this, because if anyone was ever too loud or took up too much space, it might disturb other people who are just trying to boredly scroll social media in peace

and we always prioritise the small chance that something might go slightly wrong, or be tiring or inconvenient, or might break a routine or cause a disturbance or be weird, over, you know, the kind of flourishing vibrant joyfulness which needs recklessness to grow

you ever consider just saying fuck that, and living a life where you burst into song with your friends when you feel the urge, you let yourself stand slackjawed in awe at a pretty sunset and you don’t let anyone shame you for liking things, you dance down the street just to feel your muscles turning, you wear whatever colours spark joy, where you put your feet on the tables and drum on the walls and rattle the hatches

cause that’s an Energy and it’s infectious and good and if you can do this and help others do it, then it is rare and valuable and you should find friends who will love you for it rather than expect you to apologise for being loud
