GRANOLA, THE LAST CEREALIAN SURVIVOR
Curse y'all! You damn dirty Saiyans!
this was a trip
today in defenses of boromir that no one asked for: tired of reading that boromirâs death was in vain because he failed to save merry & pippin from the uruk-hai. the fact that this clearly important warrior was willing to die to protect those two is what convinced the urukhai that they had indeed captured the halfing who carried whatever important thing saruman wanted. they took the hobbits to isengard (to isengard gard) because they thought they had the right ones! boromir didnât succeed in preventing their capture but he did in fact keep them alive by making them seem valuable. furthermore, he actually also saves frodo in this way: because the orcs and uruk-hai think they have what they came for, they stop looking and turn back: if they had not, they might have ultimately found and captured frodo or at least raised the alarm that a hobbit with an Important Thing was on the loose, setting others searching. which is the very heart of tolkienâs worldview - that you do the right thing because it is right, and doing the right thing is never in vain.Â
to conclude this essay boromir died a hero and saved not just merry and pippin but also frodo and sam - and in doing so also saved himself from the ringâs attempt to twist him to its own ends

UNDERSTANDING KRILLIN'S POWER-UP
"MĆ«ga no RyĆiki" is the power-up Krillin gets in Dragon Ball Super episode 76. It is commonly reffered to as "No Ego Zone" but this translation is an oversimplification of the true meaning.
I became tired of waiting on someone else to explain the meaning behind Krillin's power-up in DBS EP 76, so I decided to do my own research! Through said research, I've discovered that there is much deeper meaning & plenty of symbolism behind the power-up.
ORIGIN & DEFINITION:
Roshi says "MĆ«ga no RyĆiki" when explaining that Krillin is rising above himself or stepping into the realm of selflessness. This sentence is where the name for Krillin's power-up originated.
Now, let's break down what MĆ«ga no RyĆiki means.
"MĆ«ga" meaning selflessness, self-effacement, & self-renunciation. Also meaning anattÄ or anÄtman (non-self).
"RyĆiki" meaning area, domain, field, realm, state.
So, a more accurate way of saying "MĆ«ga no RyĆiki" would be "NON-SELF STATE." (Personally, I had been referring to Krillin's power-up as "State of Equanimity" until recent. I've also discovered that "State of Equanimity" was a more accurate term than "No Ego Zone" too.)
What happened to that nameless, newly awoken power Krillin had in ep 76? That wouldâve been cool to see in the ToP. Iâd name it State of Eq
MĆ«ga no RyĆiki/Non-Self State: The unique power-up that Krillin attained & that is inspired of Buddhist teachings.
INSPIRATION & RELATION: đ
[I'm not going to get too deep, but I plan to give substantial evidence to back my findings. My research is from the perspective of the guy on the outside looking in, because I am not a Buddhist. I'm sure someone smarter than I am & more knowledgeable when it comes to Buddhist & Hindu beliefs could explain this much better than I could. I won't cover every facet, but I will try to get to the points that relate to Krillin's power-up.]
To preface, the usage of Buddhism & Hinduism in relation to Dragon Ball is not perfectly aligned. Some teachings from both factor in when it comes to Krillin's power-up, but I will primarily be focusing on the Buddhist teachings more than the Hindu teachings (although both have had some influence on the other). Inspiration is taken but there are slight differences. Just as Son Goku is the Dragon Ball version of Sun Wukong, Krillin's power-up is the Dragon Ball version of the Buddhist teaching anattÄ.
âBuddhism relies upon the outward, mindfulness strategy to see the objects of the mind, the body and the world with greater clarity and intelligence to identify the causes of bondage and suffering... Buddhism attempts to face them and understand them with the AnattÄ approach or strategy, by accepting the objective reality as the starting point for the practice of the Eightfold Path (the path to nirvÄáča).â
The Four Noble Truths comprise the essence of Buddha's teachings. They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. Krillin goes through these truths.
Krillin realizes he's suffering & his suffering is diagnosed by Roshi as doubt & fear
Krillin identifies the cause of suffering is from his trauma
Krillin knows that overcoming this suffering will better him
Krillin follows the path to overcomes his suffering and attains nirvÄáča (MĆ«ga no RyĆiki/Non-Self State)
AnattÄ is the nature of all things & it is amorphous ("without a clearly defined shape or form"). Thus, in DBS episodes 75 & 76, the anattÄ/traumatic experiences are depicted by different objects that were transforming into enemies (fog, trees, dirt, smoke, & stones). There was no clearly defined shape or form for these enemies as they continued to change in size & transform into different people.
Krillin fought against his fears, the memories of his pain & death, his sufferings, his inner demons, and all of his trauma. Krillin was killed by a demon when he was 16 years old & was stuck in a state of constant torture, he saw his best friend die as he held his hand, he then was helpless as his friends suffered & were murdered by the Saiyans, & later he was tortured by the Emperor of the Universe then was painfully blown up from the inside out. He witnessed the horrors of a murderous cybernetic monster, he witnessed his best friend die again, he was temporarily turned to stone by another demon, and afterwards he bravely sacrificed himself to save his family & others then was turned into candy and eaten.
Krillin needed to overcome all of these traumatic experiences to transcend/rise above himself and his limitations.
(kaialone has a good post about Krillin's trauma from Tambourine)
Kuririn and Tambourine I have seen some people say that it makes no sense for Kuririn to be so scared of seeing Tambourine specifically, con
In addition, Krillin being in the Forest of Terror & facing all of his trauma at once is similar to the concept of Duងkha; commonly defined as "suffering, unhappiness, pain, unsatisfactoriness, & stress." Many fail to realize that Krillin's most traumatic experience is when he was murdered at the age of 16 by a demon, Tambourine. Krillin was literally stuck in a state of eternal torture & suffering, unable to pass on. That alone left an extremely deep & traumatic mental scar that Krillin finally overcame. (What happens when a demon kills you in DB. Post by Dragon Ball Meta)
Ever stop and think about the fact that Krillin died at the age of 16 and was not allowed to enter the Afterlife and floated in a constant s
SaáčsÄra is the belief of a cycle of death and rebirth. Through karma and eventual enlightenment, the hope is to escape saáčsÄra and achieve NirvÄáča, an end to suffering. (The close equivalent is moksha is Hinduism)
NirvÄáča âis a state of perfect quietude, freedom, highest happiness as well as the liberation from or ending of saáčsÄra... nirvÄáča refers to realization of non-self (anattÄ)... marking the end of rebirth.â
âDepending on the actions performed in previous lives, rebirth could be as a human or animal or even ghosts, demi-gods, or gods. Being born as a human is seen by Buddhists as a rare opportunity to work towards escaping this cycle of saáčsÄra. The escape from saáčsÄra is called NirvÄáča or Enlightenment.â It's also important to note that Buddhists talk about energy being reborn, rather than souls.
Krillin's deaths could be seen as saáčsÄra, the cycle of death & rebirth. Then when Krillin achieves nirvÄáča, he is reborn in a sense. His aura is different & appears similar to god ki (DB version of enlightenment & rebirth as a demi-god or god). This is meant to be Krillin's rebirth. He even says âThis is the new me!â
Krillin achieved Inner Self-Actualization.
To visually convey the difference between Goku & Krillin, they meditate differently in episode 76. When Goku meditates, he is standing. Krillin, however, is sitting in a meditative position.
âZen Buddhism... strongly emphasizes dhyÄna, the meditative training of awareness and equanimity. This practice, according to Zen proponents, gives insight into one's true nature, or the emptiness of inherent existence, which opens the way to a liberated way of living.â
Also in episodes 75 & 76, Krillin was unblocking his chakras, but most importantly the 7th Chakra, the Crown Chakra/SahasrÄra đ. (It's colour is violet or white). To symbolize this unblocking process, the background behind Krillin was foggy & murky, but then it cleared away when Krillin found inner peace. (It's important to note that Goku's background did not clear away, BUT Krillin's background did. That was intentional.)
This was to convey to the viewer that Krillin unlocked his 7th Chakra, SahasrÄra. The Crown Chakra's quote is âI understand.â And what does Krillin say right before he activates Non-Self State?
When Krillin is in Non-Self State, there is jagged aura around his hands. This is often reffered to as aura-clad fists. I've found that it appears to visually symbolize Krillin achieving nirvÄáča & represents the 7th Chakra, SahasrÄra. When translated, SahasrÄra means "thousand-petalled" or "infinite-petalled" lotus flower.
The many jagged edges of the aura around Krillin's fist = thousand/infinite petals of SahasrÄra from his "palm chakras/hand chakras."
The ever present concentrated energy around Krillin's hands can also visually convey Krillin's mastery of martial arts.
There is indication that the lotus flower is also being reinterpreted as the Paradise Herbđż for DBS. Depending on the colour, the lotus flower can symbolize purity, ascension, rebirth, self-regeneration, & spiritual enlightenment, nirvÄáča. The Paradise Herb has a rainbow-like colour which symbolizes all the colours of lotus flowers & chakras. And according to legend, after Gautama Buddha achieved nirvÄáča, lotus flowers appeared everywhere he stepped. Similarly, after Krillin achieved nirvÄáča, the Paradise Herb appeared.
The expression for "paradise" & "nirvÄáča" have identical meaning. There's a purposeful connection between how the Paradise Herb & Non-Self State both represent Krillin's achievement of nirvÄáča.
It's important to notice that Goku did not cause the Paradise Herb to grow. Krillin caused the herb to appear because he achieved nirvÄáča. Krillin rose above his pain that suppressed him just as a lotus flower rises above the mud. And just like the lotus flower, Krillin can continuously rise & spiritually transform.
Although Goku did not achieve enlightenment at this time, Goku's experience in the Forest of Terror greatly aided Goku on his path to nirvÄáča. This was realized in DBS EP 110 when Goku awakened into Ultra Instinct Omen. Then, it was fully realized in DBS EP 129 when Goku attained Mastered Ultra Instinct.
When Krillin attained Non-Self State/NirvÄáča, Krillin had ascended to samma sambuddha/Buddhahood; meaning "awakened one" "a state of awakening filled with compassion and wisdom." The last factor of the Seven Factors of Awakening is equanimity which is "mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation." This is exactly what Krillin did.
Also, the Paradise Herbđż that Goku & Krillin went to fetch for Master Roshi had another meaning. After Krillin achieves equanimity & Non-Self State, the herb that grants longevity appears. Remember, the end goal of anattÄ is to not be reincarnated anymore & the Paradise Herb allows for the increasing of lifespan & vitality. So in a sense, immortality. It is said that Buddha could live for an aeon or be immortal. Krillin can now live for a very long time as well, thanks to the Paradise Herb.
Non-Self State is used solely by Krillin as his own unique technique & a spiritual transformation. When he & Goku prepare to defeat the fake Super Shenron, Goku goes SSB and Krillin goes NSS (Non-Self State). Krillin's power is activated like a god transformation. (Goku went SSJB instead of a normal SSJ form because god ki doesn't leak energy out, unlike the energy of normal Super Saiyan transformations. You can't let your energy leak out in the Forest if Terror.)
Now if we were to find Dragon Ball techniques/power-ups that are similar to Non-Self State, they would be Potential Unleashed (slight similarities), God Ki (more similar), & Ultra Instinct (very similar).
Similarities to Potential Unleashed:
Non-Self State is similar to Potential Unleashed because they share the concept of inner power. Gohan's Ultimate form was unlocked by Elder Kai and it is Gohan's own latent power and beyond that. Non-Self State is similar but much more spiritual than Gohan's Potential Unleashed. Krillin is not simply powering up, nor can Non-Self State be unlocked for you with somebody else's help. It is a power that can only be found on your own. It's not just releasing all of your energy, it is enlightenment which is shown to be more than just raising your ki & more than normal mortal ki control. Krillin had to prevent his energy from being released outward & focus his energy inward instead. Gohan's power is not like this. There are similarities between Potential Unleashed & Non-Self State, but they aren't too close.
Krillin having some of his potential unlocked by Guru on Namek may have aided him in attaining Non-Self State many years later. But the form was unlocked by Krillin himself, not a power that Guru gave him. That's as similar as NSS is with Potential Unleashed.
Out of the 3 power-ups, Non-Self State has the least in common with Potential Unleashed. Non-Self State has more in common with God Ki & Ultra Instinct.
Similarities to God Ki:
Krillin's Non-Self State is described in a way that is similar to how god ki works. That being to calm yourself & not let your energy slip out. Krillin controls his mind & energy so his ki doesn't leak out. That is very similar to how Vegeta & Goku explain how god ki works (link to qoutes here).
A calm mind and ki control... "Is this what they call god ki?" I want answers Toei!
Similar method, principles, & similar aura. At the very least, Krillin attaining Non-Self State is learning god ki basics without advanced training. Krillin has stepped into the realm of the gods, which is what SahasrÄra is.
What's also interesting is that when Krillin keeps his energy from leaking out. That too is symbolic. Krillin is focussing his energy inward (Ätman) not outward (anattÄ). Krillin is not letting external realities worry him & he has found his true power, his true self. (This has similarities to one of the Zen Buddhism teachings of Renzai Zen. The teaching of kensho: "seeing one's true nature")
And it's not like there is only 1 way to attain god ki. We've seen more than one way in the series.
Goku attained god ki through a god ritual.
Vegeta attained god ki through being trained by a godly being.
Krillin attained god ki through enlightenment.
(When we include Uub, that's another way to attain god ki. According to the latest info, Uub was reincarnated with godly energy.)
Similarities to Ultra Instinct:
So, we've already established that Non-Self State has been presented as god ki. And fascinating enough, god ki is needed in order to achieve one of the techniques of the gods, Ultra Instinct. Obviously, Krillin does not know an Angelic technique as Goku does. However, Non-Self State & Ultra Instinct do share many similarities.
Also, it's possible that Krillin's power-up, Non-Self State, may have stopped appearing because of the very close resemblence to Ultra Instinct in order for UI can stand out more. They aren't only similar in appearance, but in how they are attained as well.
APPEARANCE
Visually, both Non-Self State & Ultra Instinct have an aquatic/flame-like aura. Non-Self State has a white aura. Meanwhile, Ultra Instinct Sign's aura has a mixture of white & blue colours. When Goku uses Mastered Ultra Instinct, the aura is white, blue, & purple. (Blue & purple colours possibly because of a mixture of SSG & SSB. Or a reference to the 6th & 7th chakras & the colours that represent them.)
The way the 2 techniques are activated have similarities as well.
ACTIVATION
As I stated at the beginning, for a while, I have called Krillin's power-up "State of Equanimity." And it happens to be that the Buddhist concept of equanimity is upekáčŁÄ
Equanimity: mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.
UpekáčŁÄ: "stability in the face of the fluctuations of worldly fortune. It is evenness of mind, unshakeable freedom of mind, a state of inner equipoise that cannot be upset by gain and loss, honor and dishonor, praise and blame, pleasure and pain."
After knowing the definition, being in a state of equanimity/upekáčŁÄ has great correlation to what Merus says to Goku: âIt will activate when you achieve self-control in the face of a jarring shock to your emotions. Such is Ultra Instinct.â
To gain Non-Self State, Krillin calmed himself in the face of jarring shocks to his emotions and gains a godly aura that resembles Ultra Instinct. Krillin very well could have discovered a technique or state of being with similar principles to Ultra Instinct. It's not uncommon for Krillin to create & learn techniques on his own (an improvsed Kamehameha, Double Tsuibikidan, Kakusandan, Kienzan, an improvised Genki Dama, Kienzan x5, guided Kienzan x4, Taiyoken x100). To everyone's surprise, Killin even taught himself to fly on his own while the others needed to be taught by a master.
This explanation of Non-Self State can also be applied for Ultra Instinct. All the Buddhist symbolism for Non-Self State is not used for Ultra Instinct, but the principles are similar. Ultra Instinct uses cosmic symbolism instead.
To add, there is research about athletes being in "the zone" which is real life Ultra Instinct in a way. There are 2 ways to get into the zone.
Flow: Letting it happen
Clutch: Making it happen
As a former athlete, I can greatly understand this. There are many times that an athlete needs to to Get in The Zone in order to win. It happens in any sport. You just let everything flow or you turn on the clutch in order to push yourself to outdo your competition. Blocking out unnecessary thinking & focusing on the task at hand. You will at times react without thinking & out maneuver your opponent. It's real and Dragon Ball does a good job at portraying this for Goku & Krillin (as well as Roshi in the anime & to a degree in the manga).
The way Krillin achieves Non-Self State is "clutch." The way Goku initially activates Ultra Instinct Sign is "flow." But when Goku goes into Mastered Ultra Instinct, it has always been shown to be "clutch." Both Non-Self State & Ultra Instinct need great focus in order to activate.
THE WATER DROPLET SYMBOLISM đ§
One last similarity is in episode 76. For Goku, a droplet sound is heard and ripples are seen below him in the foggy background when he calms himself. For Krillin, he clears the foggy background then a droplet is heard & seen as it splashes into the water below when he is rising above himself. This water analogy shows the peace they attained. The difference is that only Krillin achieved enlightenment at this time.
Even when Goku's manga counterpart achieves Ultra Instinct Sign, he says âAll I've done is get rid of unnecessary emotions... my heart's as calm as the gentle streams of Mount Paozu.â
Goku & Krillin both got rid of the unnecessary emotions that held them back as they calmed their heart & mind. After doing so, both gained a new aquatic-like aura. Only then were they able to âbecome like water.â
SUMMARY OF KRILLIN'S POWER-UP: đ
To simply summarize Krillin's journey of attaining Non-Self State:
Krillin was constantly suffering from PTSD (Duáž„kha), he faces all the trauma at once & has no choice but to overcome his trauma (Eightfold Path, Four Noble Truths, Seven Factors of Awakening). Krillin meditates, gains understanding & unlocks his 7th Chakra, thus achieving NirvÄáča (MĆ«ga no RyĆiki). To illustrate his metaphorical rebirth as a god, Krillin gains a godly aura. The Paradise Herb symbolizes the lotus flower and that Krillin attained immortality by being able to potentially live forever from the heavenly herb that appears after Krillin awakened & achieved nirvÄáča. This is Krillin's ascension to Buddhahood (meaning: awakened one) which is represented by Krillin's Non-Self State A.K.A. MĆ«ga no RyĆiki.
POWER SCALING:
First of all, Krillin has been training with No. 18 & is able to keep up with 18, who is extremely strong & has infinite stamina (DBS EP 88). I'm not implying they are the same strength, but Krillin has clearly increased in power even without using NSS. At the end of episode 76, Goku and Krillin are going to train again & it is implied that Goku & Krillin continued to train from time to time (DBS EP 77). This is why Goku knew Krillin was strong & had new techniques when he was image training with Gohan in episode 83. Then, episode 84 informs us that Krillin has been training regularly on his own. Clearly, Krillin has greatly increased in power. It's difficult to dispute that Krillin's power is now easily equal to or above Namek Saga SSJ. With that in mind, when trying to gauge/power scale Non-Self State, there are 3 possibilities.
If Non-Self State is comparable to Potential Unleashed, Krillin's power scales above Super Saiyan 2 to Super Saiyan 3. {If you believe Krillin doesn't have god ki, (even after the evidence) then he has capabilities similar to Jiren. An extremely strong mortal that has unlocked power that can go above gods on his own without the aid of god ki.}
If Non-Self State is comparable to god ki (which it is), Krillin's power scales between Super Saiyan 3 & Saiyan Beyond God/Super Saiyan God. {In EP 75, Krillin said one reason he wants to be stronger is to be able to be a better training partner for Goku. So, it's only reasonable for Krillin's power to be in the realm of the gods. Chekhov's gun.}
If Non-Self State is comparable to Ultra Instinct Sign or Mastered Ultra Instinct (it is), Krillin's power scales above Super Saiyan 3 to Saiyan Beyond God/Super Saiyan God, but with peak skill similar to UI & all of Krillin's mastery of martial arts are on full display. {Krillin's Non-Self State [â ż] correlates to Aang's Avatar state [âŹ]. Godly power, but used sparingly & only activates during certain instances.}
Either way, Krillin gained quite the amazing power-up. (And this is me being reasonable with how crazy power scaling is in DBS.)
If you don't think Krillin's Non-Self State is at the very least stronger than SSJ3, then you are essentially reasoning that Goku using god ki in base is weaker than SSJ3.
But, if you like having flawed & nonsensical reasoning, then enjoy your cognitive dissonance.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Krillin gaining this power-up isn't just out of nowhere, nor is it simply Krillin raising his ki. It has deeper meaning. And contrary to what most of the fandom inaccurately think, Krillin is one of the most skilled martial artists in all of Dragon Ball. He has to fight in a way to defeat stronger opponents in nearly every battle he has been in.
Haters love to accuse Krillin of being "worthless." But, every time when the series proves the opposite & gives respect to Krillin, it angers these fragile ppl. They make up more lies about Krillin because the truth always exposes their easily disputable false narratives. But, that's to be expected of those kind of ppl who choose to remain blissfully ignorant. (Haters gonna hate đ)
In DBS EP 84, Gohan underestimated Krillin's skill & was quickly eliminated by Krillin when they were sparring. Then, while depleted of some ki from his match with Gohan, Krillin almost defeated Goku, who was at full stamina & is someone who's more on par with Krillin's skill. Krillin nearly won because of his skill & quick-thinking fighting style. It took Goku transforming into SSJ to not be eliminated. Even then, Krillin still confidently faced & almost eliminated SSJ Goku. It wasn't until Goku went SSJB that Krillin was truly outmatched, but a battle fatigued Krillin still put up a fight (yes, Goku was testing him with SSJB). Krillin even surprised Goku by slightly pushing SSJB Goku's Kamehameha back for a moment (this is likely due to Krillin tapping into Non-Self State's power). If Krillin wasn't sapped from his last battle with Gohan & sapped from the multiple techniques he pushed himself to use against Goku, AND if he had enough time to calm his mind & use Non-Self State, I have no doubt the match would've gone on longer. That's just a testament to Krillin's skill. Goku & Krillin are Roshi's two greatest students and they show why they are the most skilled martial artists of their respective races (Saiyan & Earthling).
Do I think that Non-Self State will make a return? I doubt it because DBS is extremely Saiyan centric. But it should & I'D LOVE FOR NON-SELF STATE TO RETURN! If not in the anime then in a new DB game as Krillin's unique power-up. NSS looks cool, has interesting inspiration, and it expands the Earthling lore of Dragon Ball as well as expanding on what we know about god ki. It's also a smart & creative way that can make non-Saiyan fighters (like Earthlings & Piccolo) get stronger in a reasonable way.
I did SO MUCH research! đ© I even searched through Google in Japanese to to find information. I searched for things like çĄæăźé ć and 愔愜è and other words. I also searched for Japanese reviews, summaries, & transcripts of DBS episodes 75 & 76 then used Google's built-in translator as well as personally translating the information myself. I was able to learn a great amount from all of my research & found the true meaning behind MĆ«ga no RyĆiki/Non-Self State!
All in all, it was fun to disect this power-up & find it's inspiration. At first, I was surprised that nobody else discovered this years before I did. But, Krillin isn't a Saiyan & he is underestimated by most of the DB community, so it makes sense why most didn't search for deeper meaning.
Most of the DB community told others to skip over EP 75 & 76, ignorantly took things out of context from the episodes, called the episodes boring filler (technically, there is no filler in the anime), and they made those same unfunny & unoriginal jokes about Krillin. These were Krillin episodes so y'all were biased against them, but now y'all can have some humble pie.
Oh, don't worry, there's plenty to go around! đ
However, some of us had a gut feeling & speculated that Krillin has learned god ki. Now we can back it up with more evidence!
The team that worked on these two episodes have my praise for how well written & inspired the episodes are.
EP 75 director: RyĆta Nakamura.
EP 76 director: Hideki Hiroshima
EP 75-76 screenplay: Atsuhiro Tomioka
Hideki Hiroshima even worked on "Buddha: The Great Departure" so there's no doubt that the Buddhist symbolism in those episodes were purposefully included. There are too many connections & "coincidences" to simply be wishful thinking. At this point with this much evidence of Buddhist inspiration, there is no doubt that the writers had decided to convey that had Krillin stepped into the realm of the gods.
Also, I have yet to finish reading Journey To The West. There may be references from it that tie into Krillin's power-up that I do not have knowledge of at the moment.
I mention some similarities that I know of that connects Krillin & Tang Sanzeng from âJourney To The Westâ in the "EXTRA THOUGHTS" section below.
Thank you for reading my research! Please share this around & reference this post if you'd like to. I hope this brings more insight to the Dragon Ball community. Maybe this can inspire others to research more about Dragon Ball & discover deeper meaning of things throughout the series.

MĆ«ga no RyĆiki/Non-Self State is a spiritual transformation in a way similar to Migatte no Gokui/Ultra Instinct. (Goku physically transforms with UI because of Saiyan biology.)
Both Non-Self State & Ultra Instinct are spiritual awakenings. DBS episode 110 is even titled, "Goku Enkindled! The Awakened One's New Ultra Instinct!" and chapter 39 is titled "Sign of Son Goku's Awakening." & we've gone over info that reveals Krillin had an awakening as well. SSB has been displayed more as just godly power instead of a spiritual awakening.
Goku's kanji is æ. It is pronounced "Go" & means "wisdom" or "enlightenment." In DBS EP 109-110 after Goku falls inside the Spirit Bomb, he attains UI Omen & his shirt with the enlightnement symbol is gone. This illustrated that Goku achieved enlightenment during the ToP, not in EP 75-76.
This path to enlightenment is fitting to be learned by Krillin who's creation was inspired of the Buddhist shaolin warrior monks & Tang Sanzang from Journey to the West.
At the end of DBS EP 76, Krillin has a shaved head again to signify his spiritual enlightenment and his continuation of his path to better himself. This practice is known as tonsure. âShaving the head is an act of transformation... and represents a physical renunciation of the external and vain attachments found in society, which are meaningless to a dedicated practitioner on the path of spiritual enlightenment. The tonsure is repeated throughout ones dedicated time of practice as the hair grows back.â - The Dao of Dragon Ball
Goku & Krillin attain similar power through similar principles. Krillin gained a higher state of mind first. Goku gained an advanced version afterwards thanks to his training from the Angel, Whis. Krillin's enlightenment is in it's early stages because he has no master. Both still have room to keep improving & growing to higher levels of power.
The 7th chakra transforms you and is a connection to a higher state of consciousness & to the divine. 7th chakra has a connection to rainbows and the moon. We see that the Paradise Herb has rainbow colours đżđ & there are 3 moons inside the Forest of Terror. đđđ (These 3 moons are new moons. The moon & new moon symbolizes new beginnings)
One of the stones for 7th Chakra/SahasrÄra is the moonstone. The stone represents new beginnings, inner growth and strength. It soothes emotional instability and stress, and stabilises the emotions, providing calmness. In DBS EP 75, the moon đ is shown when Goku & Krillin are about to spar outside Krillin's house. The moon đ is shown again when Krillin is in deep thought as he trains alone outside at Kame house under the moonlight. Then in episodes 75 & 76, there are 3 moons đđđ seen inside the Forest of Terror, emphasizing & foreshadowing Krillin's spiritual transformation.
愔愜è translates to "Paradise Herb" but "NirvÄáča Herb" works just as well. Paradise & NirvÄáča have the same expression that means "an ideal or idyllic place or state." With that in mind, Krillin's power-up represents NirvÄáča, so the Paradise Herb appearing after Krillin achieved nirvÄáča makes perfect sense. There are so many details in episodes 75 & 76 that have deep meanings.
The 愔愜 (paradise) part of 愔愜è (Paradise Herb) has the meaning "paradise" & "SukhÄvatÄ« (AmitÄbha's Pure Land)" when translated. As a bestower of longevity, AmitÄbha means "Infinite Light" & is also called AmitÄyus, meaning "Infinite Life." The Paradise Herb potenially gives infinite life & Krillin's power-up gave off a godly glow to his body. (The power & effects of the Solar Flare x100 could be a result of Krillin's "Infinite Light.")
According to SukhÄvatÄ«, "The newly dead enter into lotus buds, which unfold when the occupants have become entirely purified and have attained enlightenment. Many are said to be reborn on Earth after leaving SukhÄvatÄ« to become bodhisattvas working toward the liberation (nirvÄáča) of all sentient beings." There is much lotus symbolism of being reborn in the episode 76. The Forest of Terror puts Krillin in a death-like state, then the forest is encased over Krillin similar to how the closed lotus bud is symbolized to be a time before enlightenment is achieved. Then, the forest unfolds around him after Krillin achieved Non-Self State, illustrating that Krillin attained enlightenment/nirvÄáča.
The way the branches of trees are shown in the Forest of Terror also seem to resemble a bodhi tree (tree of enlightenment) in an altered way to fit DB's world. It's said that Buddha achieved enlightenment under a bodhi tree. Krillin achieves enlightenment in a forest of trees. So in a way, the Forest of Terror became a Forest of Enlightenment for Krillin.
Also note that the trees of the Forest of Terror have a rainbow tint & sometimes a rainbow glow đ, (the rocks & some of the ground have a rainbow tint as well) this represents the chakra colors & Krillin's eventual awakening. [The rainbow colours in the Forest of Terror have a symbolic connection to the lotus flower as well.]
Krillin being in the Forest of Terror is interesting to me. The "lin/rin" part of Krillin's/Kuririn's name is derived from "shaolin" which means little forest. Then the temple Krillin trained at before he trained with Roshi is named Orin Temple/Orin-ji. It can be translated as big forest temple. That's a lot of references to forests. Appears to be intentional too.
The enemies that appeared in the Forest of Terror were a combination of Goku & Krillin's fears from past opponents. Krillin never saw King Piccolo so, that was somebody Goku had fear of. (Even Bulma appeared/transfigured there for comedic effect, but also because Bulma is often mean to them.) Goku's Saiyan nature allows him to dismiss trauma much easier than Krillin's human nature. The apparitions show that both have their fears of the past. Goku was able to conquer his fears faster. Both fight despite fear but, Krillin has to show more bravery since his fears are reasonably more substantial in comparison to Goku's. Krillin has experience greater trauma, yet he was able to soon conquer his fears & transcended himself.
The reason why Goku figured out how the illusions worked quicker than Krillin did is because Krillin doesn't have Goku's ability to physically transform. Goku noticed that the illusions increased in size due to his own energy output when he transformed into SSJ3. But, Krillin had to figure it out his own way by sensing his own energy within the illusions. Both Goku & Krillin discovered the truth of these illusions in different ways.
Another reason Goku figured out how the illusions worked is because he had been in a similar situation before. Dragon Ball Super episodes 75 & 76 gives a slight nod to Dragon Ball episodes 152-123. Both are in a realm between the living & the afterlife, a two person journey (Goku & Chi-Chi in DB then Goku & Krillin in DBS), both have illusions (but they work differently), one is an island and another is a mountain, there's the Eightfold Furnace of DB & Krillin completed the Eightfold Path in DBS. But, the way everything else happens in the 2 series is completely different. (It is interesting that the Earth has many mystical realms & people that have connection to gods and the afterlife. Other planets don't have this. Earth is special.) I may do more research on the OG Dragon Ball episodes one of these days to figure out it's symbolism.
Krillin may have had an Overactive Seventh Chakra. "In the overactive (or hyperactive) mode, the seventh Chakra can lead a person to have obsessive thoughts. Such individuals live in the past or constantly think about the future." Krillin was partially living in the past due to his traumatic experiences. An Overactive Crown Chakra fits better for Krillin than having an Underactive Crown Chakra in which a person would behave selfishly (unlike Krillin, who is constantly shown to be self-sacrificing).
The 7th Chakra's colour is violet or white. We see that Krillin gains a luminous white aura, but what about the violet colour? The sky inside of the Forest of Terror has a violet hue & there is a violet aura around the enemies at one point. This could be explained away as a dark or evil kind of aura & atmosphere, as to which it could or could not be. BUT... there is a lone violet coloured butterfly that appears only once. It is symbolic. Butterflies have metaphorical meaning.
The violet coloured butterflyđŠ; Butterflies are often a metaphor representing spiritual rebirth, spiritual transformation, change, hope and life. This butterfly foreshadows & represents Krillin's spiritual rebirth & transformation.
The teaching of anattÄ is a belief that there is no eternal soul or Supreme Soul/God. Since in Dragon Ball, living beings have souls & there are many gods, the exact doctrines of Buddhism don't perfectly align. This could be why in Dragon Ball, Krillin is surprised that Goku is training with Kami because it contradicts his Buddhist beliefs. But, I am unsure. Also, the Hindu teaching of Ätman (soul, true self) could apply a bit more in Dragon Ball in this instance. Regardless, the Dragon Ball version of NirvÄáča was achieved by Krillin.
Near the end of episode 76, Krillin says [SUB] âI'm gonna be a martial artist again. For me. Hah. No, for Marron, I suppose.â [DUB] âWhich is why I've decided to become a fighter again. For my own sake. Hah. Okay, and I want my daughter to be proud of me.â This can apply to the mĆ«ga part of "MĆ«ga no RyĆiki", meaning non-self or selfless. Krillin is being selfless and is being a martial artist again for his family. Even this is applying principles of Non-Self State.
Krillin is constantly shown to be selfless & sacrificing in his daily life & as he fights to protect others as a police officer. That's just who he is, which is why Non-Self State is the perfect power-up for Krillin.
Krillin was grazed by a bullet in DBS EP 75 because a few reasons. Krillin, the strongest Earthling, greatly suppresses his battle power when working as a police officer (link to explanation here). Krillin did so in order to appear as a "normal" Earthling. Don't think so? Then why does a man capable of flight ride a hover-scooter? Why doesn't Krillin use ki blasts against criminals? It's all to blend in as "normal." But this ended up getting him injured. Krillin even tells his wife that injuries "normally" happen during a dangerous job. He's trying to be something he's not and it's to his detriment. His depression & uncertainty of the mind caused him to lower guard & awareness, which resulted in injury. (Trying to perform while under much mental stress can lead to someone inuring themselves or worse.) This is why you see that Krillin is doing vastly better as an officer in later episodes after he attained Non-Self State.
When No. 18 called Krillin a "weakling" it was NOT meant as an insult. This was tough love that was said in hope of motivating Krillin to train again. And it works! If 18 didn't love Krillin, then she wouldn't make cream hearts in his cappuccinos & happily support him all in the same episode. But, Krillin haters always take this out of context, thus they reveal their own LDE. The fandom loves to make fun of how 18 called Krillin weak even if it was to motivate him, yet... the fandom won't make fun of how Bulma doubts Vegeta being capable of victory, but has faith in Goku to save the day. Essentially, Bulma thinks Vegeta is inferior or weaker than Goku. How interestingly hypocritical. đ€
Krillin's Aura Clad Fists are shown to be concentrated energy around his fists. When we look at how Piccolo charged the Special Beam Canon against Raditz, the concentrated energy in his fingertips skyrocketed higher than his battle power. It's a similar concept for Krillin, except energy completely encompasses both his hands and there is no charge time. It also seems to increase the power of his ki attacks (as we saw with his "corkscrew" Kamehameha with Goku).
Aura Clad Fists & Energy Punch (Ki-Ken) are similar. Both are charged attacks around the fist that deliver a powerful blow. Characters like Jiren, SSBE Vegeta, UI Omen Goku in SDBH, & others have used energy punches. The major difference is that the Aura Clad Fists are always present & they always accompany Krillin's Non-Self State.
The "Aura Clad Fists" are allusive of the "Palm Chakras/Hand Chakras." A charka point for each finger, 1 point on the wrist, & the 7th chakra point on the palm of the hand. With NSS, the entire hand down to the wrist is surrounded with energy. Krillin has an awakened body & awakened hands.
Palm Chakras/Hand Chakras can be used for healing others and yourself. We haven't been shown enough yet, but since Aura Clad Fists is inspired of Palm Chakras, Krillin likely acquired healing powers that we have yet to see. (The Paradise Herb gives healing & energy to the person as well. There's possibly a connection.) Krillin is often depicted as a healer of sorts in the series & in video games, carrying senzu to heal his friends or himself, so this works perfectly (Examples being how one of Krillin's moves in DBFZ is throwing a senzu. Also in Battle of Z, Krillin is a "Support Type" and uses Energy Recovery Shot, a move which regenerates his teammate's health). With Non-Self State, Krillin can now be the healer of the group without the use of senzu in a similar to how Dende was the healer of the team on Namek. Except Krillin would be a combatant/healer.
The aura around Krillin's fist could share inspiration from the history of the Luohan and Shaolin/ Arhat Fists. A way to visually display Krillin's mastery of martial arts after achieving enlightenment.
Luohan's 18 Hands/18 Arhats/The 18 Buddha Hands seems that it could be a reason Toriyama paired Krillin (a Shaolin) with Android 18. Or it's just a coincidence. Probably coincidence, but its interesting to think about.
Medicine Buddha, who cures suffering/duងkha, is also called Lapis Lazuli Light Buddha. The Buddhist monk Krillin is married to Lazuli (C-18) & brother-in-law to Lapis (C-17). Could have been a reason Toriyama gave 17 & 18 the names "Lapis & Lazuli." And it's C-18 (Lazuli) that helps Krillin with his PTSD & gives him the push he needs that encourages him to better (cure) himself.
âDepending on the actions performed in previous lives, rebirth could be as a human or animal or even ghosts, demi-gods, or gods.â This can apply for Uub as well. He was reborn with god ki, while Krillin had to awaken to nirvÄáča to gain access to god ki through spiritual rebirth.
Both Krillin & Goku both calmly breathe to activate their power. They control their breathing to enter Non-Self State & Ultra Instinct. The breathing is to show the two going into a type of a meditative state. In order to convey their hightened spiritual state, they do not do the traditional screaming that usually involves anger to power-up or transform.
The SahasrÄra's mantra is silence. How does Goku go into Ultra Instinct & how does Krillin go into Non-Self State? They silently power up and do not yell.
âEmpty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Become like water my friend.â Krillin empties his mind. AnattÄ/non-self is amorphous (formless, shapeless). Non-Self State's aura has a water-like appearance. Many apply Bruce Lee's quote for Ultra Instinct, but as you can see, it applies to Non-Self State as well.
Despite the overly abundant symbolism conveying that Krillin learned godly power, most of the DB fandom will reject this evidence. Much of the fandom is stuck in denial because they can't accept that Krillin improved so much. They will easily accept Roshi having similar power to UI, but not Krillin (the strongest Earthling). Just shows how unreasonable many of the fandom are.
Krillin's Non-Self State resembles Goku's Ultra Instinct more than Roshi's pseudo Ultra Instinct from the manga. The build up that Roshi's "power" had was little to none. It just suddenly appeared. Unfortunately, it is poorly explained & poorly implimented in the story. I have no problem with Roshi having something similar to UI, but the execution was wack. (Example: Roshi blindfolds himself to not be affected by beautiful enemies & he is able to use his "power/technique". The enemies merge into an "ugly" woman, Roshi decides to take off his blindfold so he can lose his technique & get beaten up.) In the anime, Roshi had to rid himself of lust. In the manga, Roshi blindfolds himself. They're similar, but the anime's delivery is done more effectively.
âPursuing the threefold training (higher virtue, higher mind/concentration, higher wisdom) leads to the abandonment of lust, hatred, and delusion. One who is fully accomplished in this training attains NirvÄáča.â Roshi was currently shown to be full of lust, so this is one of the major reasons why he is unable to acquire Non-Self State. But, this is also why anime Roshi was impressive in the ToP. Anime Roshi suppressed his lust (not abandoning it) after training in EP 91 & 92. Because of this, he was able to utilize his vast skills and great experience more effectively than ever. This also explains why he was able to put Frost on the defensive for a brief moment in EP 107, despite the difference in power (like Namek saga Krillin vs Freeza). [I theorize that Roshi appeared stronger than Tien in DBS EP 89 because he was knocked unconcious by Yurin and she was using her magic to control him & draw out his power. An unconscious Roshi is without lust & can use a similar power Krillin did (Roshi is far weaker than base Krillin and still hasn't fully unlocked his chakras, so the power boost isn't of the same level as Krillin's). Yurin could utilized this power that Roshi can't normally tap into on his own & combine it with the power boost that her witchcraft gives. Although Roshi could not move without her command, this made Roshi's durability, reflexes, & attacks stronger, as well as granting him the ability to fly through the use of magic. So, the reason why Roshi was so strong was because this was Roshi's true max power + a power boost from magic. This is why Roshi hurt Tien with his Thunder Shock Surprise attack & could temporarily keep up with base Goku. (This was not Saiyan Beyond God Goku because the aura is not the same. Simply a full power base Goku.)]
We could infer that the Immortal Phoenix did still grant Roshi immortality. It could've brought the Paradise Herb to Roshi. Meaning, the Immortality Elixer was likely made from the Paradise Herb. Reason being, Roshi didn't truly have a secret technique that would boost energy in an instant that he was going to teach Goku & Krillin. Roshi says that if such a power did exist, then he would be the first to know of it. (It's implied Roshi didn't know what Krillin was talking about. Baba says she doubts that Roshi even knew of a secret technique.) But, Krillin had discovered something Roshi had not. Krillin then respectfully gave credit to his master. BUT, Roshi did know of the blessed herb that was able to extend the lifespan. Immortality was gifted to Roshi, but he did not earn it through enlightenment as Krillin did. But there's still the small possibility that Roshi did have some knowledge of this power, but didn't fully understand it.
Tang Sanzeng from Journey To The West is sometimes referred to as the Longevity Monk. Krillin (a monk) receiving longevity due to the Paradise Herb could be a reference to this.
In Journey To The West, Sun Wukong & Tang Sanzeng both ascend to Buddhahood. Similarly, Goku & later Krillin both gain god ki, then Krillin & later Goku both attain enlightenment. This appears to be a reference to Sun Wukong & Tang Sanzeng.
Krillin is even able to advance the Solar Flare in a way nobody else has been able to by creating the Solar Flare x 100. It is an advanced technique that blinds the opponent with a light so brilliant, that it's able to prevent the opponent from sensing Krillin's ki even if their eyes are closed. Do you know how amazing of a feat that is to stop somebody from sensing your ki without being an android/cyborg?! That has to be a product of Krillin's enlightenment. Think about it... The Solar Flare x100 prevents the opponent from sensing Krillin's energy, and god ki cannot be sensed by mortals who haven't learned god ki. The Solar Flare x100 may just be a God Ki infused Solar Flare.
Krillin was able to masterfully guide multiple Destructo Disks in episode 84 when sparring against Goku. This is due to him increasing in skill, but I also believe it is partially due to Krillin having gained enlightenment. It allowed him to advance and understand things in ways he couldn't prior. (Anime Krillin learned this before the ToP, meanwhile manga Krillin learned to guid multiple Kienzans after the ToP during the Moro arc.)
During & after DBS EP 76, Krillin became more like Goku. He loved training to get stronger again & he motivates others to get stronger as Goku does. Krillin now gets excited at the thought of fighting a strong opponent. He even told 18 not to stop his fight against Goku (despite being tired) because he was excited. When Krillin faces SSB Goku, Krillin smiles & says âYo, Goku. This is fun.â which is how Goku feels about fighting. After losing a beam struggle against SSB Goku, Krillin was smirking & said âIncredible! It feels like an electric shock. *chuckles*â Then, even though Krillin barely had any energy left, he was ready to continue the fight alongside 18 & even told Goku he can have Gohan join in as his partner for a 2-on-2 match. This is truly a new Krillin. A Krillin who now enjoys martial arts again like Goku does & like how both of them did when they were teenagers.
You cannot let your energy leak out in the Forest if Terror. So, you either have to stop using ki (as Goku did) to make the illusions disappear, or use god ki (as Krillin learned how to use & Goku later used) to make the illusions freeze as the user is still able to move around.
The Forest of Terror is similar to Whis' staff. How? Goku & Vegeta had no choice but to control their ki & not let it leak out in order to be able to move inside Whis' staff. Krillin had no choice but to control his ki and not let it leek out in order to stop the illusions and exit the Forest of Terror. Goku, Vegeta, & Krillin had no choice but to learn god ki. Krillin just didn't have a teacher.
The Forest of Terror is a realm between this world & OtherWorld, a place between life & death. It's possible that this forest is putting Krillin in a near death-like state, allowing Krillin to spiritually transform. And Goku was at near death when Ultra Instinct Sign was triggered in the anime. It appears be some correlation between the two.
In a manner of speaking, the Forest of Terror is putting Krillin through his very first great traumatic experience. When Krillin was killed by a demon, he was stuck in a state of torment & unable to pass on to the Afterlife. In DBS, Krillin goes into an entrance that looks like the mouth of a giant demon in order to reach the Forest of Terror, a plane that exists between the living and the Afterlife, a type of inescapable torment. In DB, Krillin was stuck in a state of constant suffering after Tambourine killed him. In the Forest of Terror, Krillin was prevented from leaving & had to face all of his trauma at once (& the only enemy to ever hit Krillin in this plane of existence was Tambourine. That was intentional.) Krillin had to relive being stuck in in a state of suffering with added traumas & he then overcame all of his trauma. To add, there's the fact that Fortuneteller Baba is involved in this episode and Baba has a strong link to the Afterlife & she freely travels to Other World. All of this appears to be intentional story telling. It's very interesting to think about.
Krillin had to overcome extreme PTSD that nobody else in Dragon Ball has to the same extent that he has. Making fun of Krillin's trauma is like making fun of a war veteran who has PTSD or anyone else who has survived traumatic experiences. These two part episodes are also meant to empower those who have PTSD. It lets them know they can improve and get out of their depression. The trauma remains but you don't have to let it depress you and bring you down. You can rise above the pain and overcome your trauma. Just as the lotus flower rises from murky waters daily, you can too. [[This twitter thread by the Twitter user @DbMeta marvelously explains Krillin's PTSD. Also, there's a Tumblr version here.]]
Krillin spiritually rises above himself after he physically rises out of the water. This could represent how a lotus flower rises up from muddy water. And the lotus flower representing enlightenment & awakening. [There's a rap reference I could make about Krillin coming "up out the mud" Lol.]
If Krillin could transform physically like a Saiyan when he used Non-Self State, his hair or eyes may have changed to a purple or a white/silver hair colour like MUI Goku (or hair colour and aura colours like Merged Zamasu).
Earthlings do have transformations. It's not a hair colour change like Saiyans, nor do they turn into giant monkeys (although some humans are capable of transforming into werewolves & such. And Earthlings can learn to shapeshift like Puar & Oolong can). Krillin demonstrates that Earthlings are capable of spiritual transformation, but it is very rare and very difficult to obtain. As far as we know, the only known Earthling to spiritually transform is Krillin.
Earthlings have learned god ki before. In DBS episode 7, Dende said âI can sense a ki that I never felt before. T-that that ki... might be divine.â Then in DBS chapter 66 on page 26, Dende said âMy divine power is still developing.â These statements imply that every kami (god) of Earth was bestowed some god ki in order to tend to their duties as god of Earth. This further proves that it's 100% possible for Krillin to have learned god ki. Not to mention that Earthlings have a higher spiritual connection with gods than most other races, so it is within reason for them to be capable of learning god ki. God ki isn't Saiyan exclusive y'all.
During the Tournament of Power arc, Krillin was able to sense god ki when Goku was in SSB & in the Ultra Instinct state. How could Krillin sense god ki if he didn't know what it felt like? Some say that this was a mistake in the writing, but I believe this was the continuation of the narrative from episode 76. Krillin is still inexperienced and new with god ki, but he can at least sense god ki now.
When Krillin & Goku fight the apparition of Super Shenron, it appears to be random IF you don't know that it is a reference to the dragon Anavatapta. Both dragons are godly beings. Anavatapta resides in a lake & is later said to have resided in a cave, while Super Shenron appears inside the cave-like entrance to the Forest of Terror that has bodies of water inside it. Anavatapta is also called Zennyo Ryëà & in an apparition. It is described as a golden serpent/dragon riding on a dragon/serpent & it is usually depicted as a small dragon in Japanese art. Then in DBS EP 76, the apparition of the smaller Super Shenron is a golden dragon that wrapped itself around Goku like a snake (Super Shenron's appearance does closely resemble a serpent too). Was this intentional? Evidence shows that it was in fact intentionally done by the writers as a homage to Anavatapta. đđ
Another reason why Super Shenron appeared in the Forest of Terror is because dragons represent enlightenment in Buddhism. đČ In Buddhism, gold stands for enlightenment, knowledge, beauty, clarity, purity, happiness, and freedom. Both are why Super Shenron (who is golden) was used to convey Krillin's enlightenment.
Krillin's Non-Self State [â ż] parallels Aang's Avatar State [âŹ]. Both are based off of the same teachings. Just as Aang from ATLA has to focus & let go in order to enter into the Avatar State, Krillin has to do the same to enter Non-Self State. These two monks both acquire great cosmic power & a higher state of mind that makes them god-like. [If it's difficult for you to wrap your head around what Non-Self State means & how it works, simply imagine it as Krillin's Avatar State.] Aang doesn't go into the Avatar State all the time. He goes into it during certain situations and doing so is difficult at first & takes extreme focus. This is the same for Krillin. Krillin cannot activate NSS (Non-Self State) effortlessly like SSB. NSS is a state of mind and inner peace that Krillin must achieve in order to transform spiritually. This is why Krillin uses NSS in short bursts (the Avatar State is used in short bursts too). This state isn't easy for Krillin to use since he doesn't have proper training from godly beings.

I hope that if/when the anime returns, they draw attention to the similarities between Gokuâs Ultra Instinct and Krillinâs Non-Self State while Goku is training with Merus. perhaps exploring what training Krillin did during the 2 & 1/2 months before Moro and his crew arrive could show the parallels between their two forms, like while Merus explains the principles of Ultra Instinct we could smash cut to Krillin where he applies very similar principles to his training
