“It’s wonderful to see you again mother.”
“ ... Mana ... ” & of course her son’s smile is enough to lighten her day. Playfully, she pinches his cheeks. “You’ve been running off lately! What have you been up to that you must hide from your mother?”
“ I guess it has been a while since I’ve had a friend to talk to. ”

okay but it just dawned on me-- i feel like katerina looks... somewhat?? like the woman we see in kanda's memories?? is that just me??
And there’s the barrage. He visibly recoils, shoulders tense as she goes on and on about the little gowns and little suits and–
“ Mother. “ Okay, perhaps he shouldn’t have raised his voice. But…
“ …I don’t want kids. “
Her thoughts were cut off as she grew silent, her son voice drowning out the last of her hopes. Normally, she would have scolded him for raising his voice at her, but... this was different.
Katerina lowered her eyes, doing her best to fight the frown that threatened to make an appearance upon her features. “Perhaps you’re just too young to understand it.” She let out a sigh and glanced his way. “Your father would hate to hear that, you know.”
‘’ As much as the idea is appealing, I don’t think I can… ‘’ Mana mumbled, placing a hand on his head– what a perfect time to feel nauseated. ‘’ It’s okay though. ‘’
She stopped herself from asking why. All it took was a little glance over at her son to see that such an idea was overwhelming him. Katerina smiled sadly and placed a delicate hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Mana. I shouldn’t have said such a thing... I just felt you would have made a wonderful father.”
Inhales deeply and just–
“ Ireallydon’tlikekids. ” Or people.
She’s totally ignoring him.
“And if you had a little girl, I could have special little gowns made for her from the seamstress and I could dress her up and play tea party with her... Oh and if you had a little boy I could dress him in little suits and he would take after you...”
‘’ I love kids! But… ‘’ I can’t do that…
“Oh, Mana, I could definitely see you having kids first! I worry about Neah at times...” she beams, a charming smile gracing her features. She had already gotten herself excited.
“ I don’t… Think… “ No.
“I think it would be a splendid idea! I miss having little children running around the home.” She won’t take 'no' for an answer.
“I want grandchildren.”
“ Mother, please. Just promise me you’ll stay away from him. He’s a rotten man. “ With an equally as rotten mouth.
“Alright, alright, I will. Don’t worry about me, Nea,” she hums, keeping her focus on her embroidery. To her, it was nothing more than a prank played on her by one of his friends.

His silence spreads to her also, and a wave of sadness overcomes her. Heaving a sigh, she places a hand on the small of his back and pats him.
“Neah, don’t give up. Please, look at me. When you try to be, you are a charming, caring young man. I know that giving up is not what you want. You’ve never been like that. I don’t know if it’s the young lady I met last night that you’re having trouble with or not, but she seems wonderful and someone who could really balance your personality. Do you hear me?”

Katerina does not hesitate to smack him across the face. “They’re rude to you because you don’t treat them respectfully! How about using the manners I taught you, for once?” He’s a hopeless case.
