This is actually a fic I wrote to submit with a Zine final for my Intro to LGBTQ studies class!! The overall topic of my group's zine is fanfiction and queer communities but my section specifically is called Contact Sport! Its an examination of how sexuality, desire, and gender are translated into fictionally non-natively queer spaces such as HRPF!

The title is from "All I Ever Wanted" by The Airborne Toxic Event, super mattdrai coded song.

on another note. my matthew tkachuk narrative of choice is that he was living his best life in calgary/early florida and then was forced to go to conversion therapy (have you guys noticed the change in his mannerisms from being "gay-ish" to how he acts now; between 2022 and 2025) and he is now overcompensating his "straightness" because its all he can do to hide his past. yall ever think about that. cause i do

i think matthew tkachuk's entire obsession with not talking about leon draisaitl in reality probably came about because he found out about mattdrai/hrpf

but it is really fucking funny to think that its because they had a psychosexual rivals with benefits situationship where feelings were caught and then he experienced such an immense amount of catholic guilt that he moved from calgary to south florida and has been trying to get over leon for years. and then marrying a woman in which no one knew about before their engagement (and there are rumors that it was set up by his parents)

HOWEVER. he is not doing himself any favors by ignoring EVERYTHING to do with leon draisaitl. it literally just seems like something ACTUALLY happened between the two that goes deeper than just discomfort with each other.
