“We’re soulmates.”

Louis’ eyes flick from the tattoo back to Harry’s face, where his eyes are shining with excitement. Louis wonders if he is supposed to feel excited, too. He’s supposed to feel something, surely, besides his usual bitterness for Harry. He thinks back to how Lottie had described meeting Sam, how she had known in her heart that he was meant for her even before he said his phrase. He can’t help but wonder if he would be feeling differently if he hadn’t gone and sold his soul.

Or, the one where louis sells his soul before meeting his soulmate, harry is a popstar with a heart of gold, niall is inadvertently responsible for harry’s boners, liam is a meddling angel, and zayn is a demon who made a mistake.

He didn’t ever really fall asleep. The dawn sun was peeking through his curtains by the time he realized he had stayed awake all night, and he figured it was too late to try and sleep now. Instead he bundled back into his coat, tucking his pelt into it and doing a fair bit better job at hiding it than he did as a child. He hesitantly opened the back door, locking it behind him and wandering down to the sea.

Harry stood there, foam lapping around his ankles, icy pin pricks shooting up his legs from the temperature and clouds appearing around his face with every exhale. The sun was peering weakly through the gray clouds, not yet strong enough to bring any warmth.

“In a sense, you could say that,” Anne says. “It’s certainly a more correct term than that vampire myth.” She looks to Nick. “Grimshaw. Would you please explain exactly what the Madness entails?”

Nick nods. Harry has never been on the receiving end of his business face before, and finds he’s more than a little intimidated. “Right, well the first thing you need to know is that, except with freak mutations, the madness only actively infects one individual at a time. Since your grandfather’s death, your father has been dealing with it. Now that he’s gone, it’s presumably moved to you.”
