Friday 15th March
Oh dear, I think I partied a little too hard last weekend and I've ended up making myself pretty ill. I came down with a fever on Tuesday evening and hardly slept at all that night because I had hot and cold sweats. I woke up on Wednesday feeling awful and my glands were really swollen - I looked in my mouth at my tonsils and they were ENORMOUS and so red and horrible, so so disgusting. I went to the doctors for an emergency appointment on Thursday morning and she gave me loads of antibiotics and a sick note which covers me for 10 days as I missed a presentation that day because I couldn't even speak. I've been on so much medication it's unreal, I have to take two tablets of penicillin four times a day, and then I'm on paracetamol and ibuprofen as well to stop my fever and to take down the swelling.
Look at all those packets! I'm finally beginning to feel a little better, but that's only due to the amount of drugs I'm taking. If I miss a dosage, or when I wake up in the morning, I still feel pretty awful. I'm supposed to be going home today but I think I'm going to wait until Sunday when hopefully I'll be nearly better before I travel. I've missed loads of uni and all the end of term celebrations though, bit crap to be honest. Oli and my housemates have been so great though and looking after me so well. Love 'em.
Saturday March 9th
My friend Josh put on a night called 'Spill The Gravy' for one of his modules on his Business Degree and he booked Melé and Skream to play in the Warehouse which Oli and I usually work in (for Shindig) and it was absolutely insane! Loads of people were up from Leeds to come and party with us Newcastle lot and it was great to see them all, felt like Outlook all over again...! Here are some of the photos from the night...
This is what the last DJ ended the night at Zap with - magical! Not quite as good as Lovebirds from last time, but still, everyone was singing along and Joss had me on his shoulders for the whole thing. So. Good.
Friday March 8th
Tonight was Zap, a huge student DJ night that happens a few times every term and it is ALWAYS guaranteed to be a winner. The music is always really good as the djs like to play music they like, like their own genres and mixes, but always throw in some crowd pleasers to finish off and it puts everyone in such a good mood! Plus my friend Jake was up to visit as he had his interview to get back into Northumbria Art School - and he found out today that he got back in! We partied pretty hard! Congrats to him, he was so happy - here's a little snap of him taken by Oli from the night before:
Thursday March 7th - Sweater Weather Productions
So, tonight was our event for our Music Business Enterprise module! Our concept behind our event was not to do a large club night, as they happen in Newcastle all the time, and instead to showcase what's going on in Newcastle's live scene instead. We wanted to bring together bands from different genre's from the local area who wanted to gig to a new audience. We were doing the whole thing for charity which was better for us as it encouraged the bands to agree to playing for free as the money was going to a good cause instead.
We headed down at about 4pm to go and buy the rider for the bands and to set up. They Cluny is such a nice venue, I cant believe I haven't seen it before...! They bands arrived for sound check at 5pm and our sound engineer Kev was amazing and did everything for us so that bands were really comfortable as they had someone really professional doing the sound.
Whilst the bands set up we prepped the place with posters, set up the ticket desk and organised the backstage area. The bar and doors opened at 7.30pm and everyone slowly began to arrive.
Hannah D'Arcy was our first act on and she did a little guitar and vocals acoustic set. She's been off the music scene for a while as she had a baby and took some time out for about a year, so she was super nervous gigging again! She sounded great though, her lyrics are hilarious...!
Next on was Deep South who're a student based band from Newcastle made up of several of my course friends. By now more people had arrived so there was a bit more of an atmosphere and they did a 45min set and sounded ace with their added brass section!
After them, we had Tissue Culture come on to do an hour set who're a well known rock band from Newcastle. They sounded amazing and had really good stage presence for 18 year olds! They're music was a little too heavy for my taste but they brought in a good bunch of their fan base and everyone seemed to enjoy them.
Finally we finished off with James Joys and Pete Devlin who did a long hour set. Their music is predominantly quite weird beat-based live dj and vocals stuff. Not something to everyone's taste but everyone was in complete awe of what was going on on stage - it was amazing! My friend Jake was in total shock, he'd never seen anything like them.
This last shot of us I absolutely love but sadly one of the Dream Team is missing because he left early to go on to another night. Shame! All in all the night went really smoothly and we ended up getting about 100 people down which was really good! We covered all our costs and actually made a profit of about £132 which we're giving to Marie Curie. Was really exciting to put on our own event and we've actually been approached by another band who want to work with us (Sweater Weather Productions) if we do anything in the future...! A massive thanks to Ol for taking such good photos, he managed to borrow a camera from the photography department really last minute which had a proper flash on it with loads of different filters and the photos have come out so well. Love!
This is my friend Tim's band. He dropped out of uni because Racing Glaciers were signed so he's gone off to become a rockstar. Pretty damn good stuff, have a listen.
My friend's band Capua Collective are gigging tonight in Leeds and I WISH I WAS THERE. Oli's gone down to see them and I am so jealous that I'm stuck here in my room with no money and the knowledge that good music is being made without my ears being able to hear it.
Wednesday March 6th
It was two of my best friend's birthday today. I love them both so so much and am so happy they're up here in the toon with me.
This is Chandler who I met at Secret Garden Party last summer and we spent the majority of all the festivals for the rest of the summer together too. He's also now up at Newcastle so I see him all the time which is great, love this boy. Always up for a laugh and had the best music taste so quite a handy friend to have! He also has his own show on NSR Live every Wednesday form 8-9pm and it's so funny to sit and listen to his voice haha. Always a good idea to 'lock-in' though as he always plays some corkers.
And this is James who I know from my course. He seems very quiet and measured at first but get him drunk and play him some good music and he's a whole different ball-game! I met him in the pub for a quite drink earlier by the studios with all his friends who all live down my road. Such a nice afternoon!
Tuesday March 5th
Oh good lord. Things got very out of hand last night. So, we decided to have a dinner party with a +1 but no boyfriends rule. Each of us could invite whoever we liked but you had to dress up as some sort of couple. I invited Titus from my course and we dressed up as Bob the Builder and Wendy, all decked out in dungarees and all. It was such a random selection of people but ended up being one of the funniest evenings! We had a cowgirl and a cowboy, two babies, julius cesear and a roman empress, Sandy and Danny from Grease, Bond and Miss Moneypenny, Mama Africa and Rastaman, and two hula girls.
Once I got back from town I spent about 3 hours making name places and decorating the table whilst the others cooked - we did tacos as it's easy and cheap and yummmmyyyyyy. When everyone turned up they looked great and everyone ate and drank a lot and I whapped out my polaroid camera that Oli gave me for my birthday and tried to take some shots of everyone.
I haven't kept the film in the fridge (as you're supposed to apparently!?) so most of them didnt turn out very well but I got a few good ones. Cornish pulled her Wild Card and we were all made to go to Flares.... IN OUR FANCY DRESS. Shit kicked off.
We only stayed an hour in Flares in the end but that was quite enough and the party continued at ours well into the night anyhow. I have a ridiculous amount of photos and videos of everyone, gold dust for blackmailing!
Sunday March 3rd
Millie's been up since Friday to come party and chill with us again. Friday night was good fun at 707 in World Headquarters but wasn't that busy so could have been better. Mil and I powered on through and walked all the way back to mine from the club without stopping for any food - we were so proud of ourselves!
The weather's been so nice we went for a big long walk round Jesmond Dene with Oli and took some photos to help us cure our hangover on Saturday morning after the yummiest panini from Daniella's. We then spent the majority of Saturday and Sunday in the pub, spending money we really didn't have. Was so good to have her up though, was fun to catch up and snuggle - we got totally addicted to this tv series we found called 'Catfish'. If you haven't seen it yet, go and find it online. It's about this people who are taken to meet the person they've fallen in love with online and it's NEVER the same person! Always some freaky fat lesbian who's been cooped up in their one room shed for 30 years. So. Great.
My friend Luke is putting on this night tonight at the Head of Steam
Ahh they've just released the Outlook Festival 2012 highlights video and I've been scouring it for us but I don't think we made the cut. Shucks.
Wednesday February 27th
It has been beautiful weather today in Newcastle. Glorious sunshine and smiles all round for everyone, I got so excited I even left the house without a coat (though ten minutes later deeply regretted it as the wintery chill was still there. Damn you and your summery vibes, sunshine!). Had a fairly productive day and whizzed around running errands and going to lectures etc. Had a meeting with my enterprise team because....
....the flyers arrived! Alll 500 of them! Don't they look smart!? We've split them so that we have 100 each to disperse around the city and they're beginning to pop up everywhere. How exciting! Only a week until our event... eek! I'll be spamming everyone over the next few days with updates on the event and tickets - watch this space!
