Truly think Grace just never really had to think about his orientation, at least not that deeply. Like it doesn't impact him that much, he just thinks he's too busy or not as interested or that everyone else is exaggerating their feelings, or that it's just not that important to him... Even once sensitivity-training starts including pronouns and transness more consistently, and there are trans students in his classes, and more representation of sexualities in media, he still never stops to apply it to himself.

Yeah, he's a guy! Cuz he always has been. Only he doesn't really connect to "man" on a deeper level. Or "woman", or anything really. Not in a gender way and not in an attraction way, or else not very strongly. And maybe he just thinks attraction is a spectrum because everything in the world is and he's a scientist, but he never *quite* comes to the realization that that's an identity in and of itself

And it's not until he's learning about Eridians being monoecious and realizing there will be no context of masculinity or gender at all on Erid to apply to him, and being kinda surprised that he doesn't really care that he will socially never be a man again.

Maybe he still won't get it, because that dude's self awareness isn't the highest. He'll just be proud of himself like "heck yeah! i'm totally cool being gendered differently by these aliens because i am a good ally!"

I'm not an essay guy or whatever, and i feel like the ogre reading ulysses while typing this. but i just wanted to say that when i was watching this scene, and stain saying "oh! we should stay here!"

it reminded me of the times dr coomer, benrey and the gnome have these moments of insistence of not wanting to progress further to reach the end of the game and to just stay in the present moment longer or even forever.

as the scene progress and gorden validates stain's reasons of wanting to stay. "but it's your decision, it's your choice to make." *points at the sun.* "but that will be everywhere, by the way. thats not just here, just so you know." and being patient with him while he thinks.

"if this is everywhere, then i want to see more."

and i don't know man, i just think this just a really neat parallel and i'm excited to see more.
