“i could be that kind of master though,” she said jokingly before her cheeky grin changed into a frown. “yah, what does this have anything to do with how you look, huh?” dean was right, nobody could ever resist that much of a good looking face like his anyways. she let out a hearty laugh, shaking her head at how silly they were at this moment. somehow it reminded her of how things had been for them in the past, it had been a while since she felt this good.
dean was probably one of the few reasons sumin had a nice childhood. if she was to name the worst moment of her life, it would probably be middle school. it was never easy for sumin since she was often the target of bullies for being an introvert, she could barely stand for herself even if she wanted to. it almost tricked her into thinking that maybe there was nothing she could do about it other than enduring the pain in silence, that was until dean came and everything changed. all of a sudden she had someone to look forward to every single time, all of a sudden she learnt that being around people couldn’t be so bad. dean came like a light to shine her dark world, growing hopes in her little heart that one couldn’t possibly be unlucky for the rest of her life. dean was a best friend, a brother and even more, a first love. he was a big part of her good memories despite how often they had bickered back then in cheongnam, knowing that no matter what happened she could never forget him.
it was incredible how they just sat there eating without uttering any words yet there wasn’t any sign of awkwardness between them, she must admit that this was something offbeat, since she didn’t usually favor silence when around people, but with dean it didn’t even matter. “who would? pizza is like the best thing in the world!” sumin exclaimed as she licked her fingers. just then a familiar song came on the radio and her eyes twinkled in delight, for that she really liked it. “oh, i love this song! it’s really my style… and i heard the singer doesn’t even disclose his identity to the public. that’s quite an interesting concept i must admit,” she uttered, nodding her head to the beat before realizing that dean had said something. “uh, what?” she was too focused on listening to the song, it took her a while to finally register what the male had said, but he was already leaning closer anyways.
she widened her eyes slightly when their faces had became this close again, those butterflies in her stomach had almost wanted to burst out, and then their eyes were locked together. what was this feeling? she didn’t know why the fuck was she so nervous and it was unlikely herself, she wasn’t always like this when dean was around. and that’s when it happened, his lips suddenly attacked hers without any warning, causing her to freeze in her place. what the actual fuck. she didn’t know what to react, it wasn’t like she was expecting this to happen, to have dean kiss her like this but now that he did, she was speechless. closing her eyes as she felt him deepening the kiss later on, still unable to tell if she was only imagining this or it’s really happening, slowly melting to his gentle touch.
her heart was beating unreasonably fast again, she opened her eyes to look at dean, there were so many things she wanted to say at the moment but it felt as if there’s something caught in her throat, so she just stayed still like that while staring at him. she was rather confused. why would he kiss her? did he actually feel the same towards her? the silence that took over them felt suffocating now, suddenly it felt as if there was no more air left for her to take in. she probably looked like an idiot right now, her cheeks could be as red as a tomato would be. she faked a small cough, trying to act like it was nothing, like it didn’t really affect her at all. “what was that… i didn’t even ask that as a wish,” she said in a voice which almost sounded like a whisper. god, she was too embarrassed to even look at him right now. “do you really miss me that much, huh?” her voice wasn’t even stable anymore and she hated it, she hated how much she liked all these feelings dean was causing her at the moment.
“you liar,” she mumbled again. “if you really missed me, you should have found me earlier though.” she didn’t even know half of the things she had said now, unsure of why did she suddenly make a fuss over this when she was the one who disappeared all of a sudden. she just needed an excuse to say something, anything, no matter how ridiculous they could be at this moment. it was frustrating enough that they were in the car right now and so she couldn’t find any other way to run from dean, she looked away almost so quickly to her other side, cursing under her breath for her heart to stop beating so wildly like this.
Dean glanced at her with soft eyes as she spoke. A smile slowly making its way on his face. She was clearly flustered and didn’t know what to say. He understood that. The male stayed quiet, looking at her attempting to hide her face. Thing about being in a car, you can’t really escape your feelings.
Turning towards the steering wheel he clenched it, building up the courage to tell her what he should have told her back then. It probably wasn’t the best time, the best place.. it wasn’t his idea of an extravagant, romantic confession.. but it was more intimate than all his fortune could ever pay for.
“I have missed you that much..” You can pick up the sincerity in his tone.
“And I should have looked for you long ago....” He turns to face her.
“I was a coward..” he admitted.
“I hid these feelings from you ever since we were kids. Back in the day were everything was okay.. just the two of us.” He pauses. “I was never brave enough to admit you were my first love. Even after--” his voice broke, thinking about his ex and how she left him a stray after four long years. “I didn’t think I would feel like this again after losing her.. but once I saw you again.. I felt so happy. I haven’t felt this happy in a while.” He laughed, looking at her with gentle eyes. “I should have acted differently back then.. I didn’t know how much I cared for you until today.”
A smile grew on his lips and he faced forward. His hands caressing the sides of the steering wheel.
“I know this is a lot to take in.. but it’s all cool.” He looked over at her again. “I just felt the need to tell you how I felt. Regardless whether you accept my feelings or not I’ll still be the same Kwon Hyuk you’ve known all this time.” He grinned.
“I’m genie for you girl.” He sung and then winked, followed by a light laugh. Although the line held some truth in it, it was meant more as a way to lighten up the mood and let her know she could ask anything of him.
