[ID: art of Ares, the Greek god of war. He is seen from the knees up, and he holds the body of an anonymous women, whose body is draped across him in devastation. She is bare from the top up, with white cloth covering her bottom half. Ares holds one hand under her thighs to support her up, and she has encircled her arms around his neck. She tucks her head deep into the crook of his neck, in a way that implies intimacy and grief. Her black hair falls down to her knees, and in one hand she loosely holds a white flower that drips red. Ares himself is also bare on top, wearing nothing but vambraces and holding a spear that cuts out of frame. Behind him abstract wings unfurl on a red background. He looks directly at the reader with unbridled fury in his face. His eyes are red.
Added onto the post are a series of text messages describing the symbolism in the art. They say “See the bleeding flower? That's a calla lily, traditionally used to represent purity. See the bloodstain on her dress? The way he's unarmored except for his vambraces? The way both of their chests are bare but on her it portrays vulnerability where on him it's a sign of strength. The way his hair is tinted red by the background, reminiscent of the bloodstained laurels he is traditionally viewed as wearing. (The same bloodstained laurels he took off to dance with Harmonia (another of his daughters) at her wedding. He was unarmored then too, was called "a tamed Ares', except he's not tame here.) The wings, harkening to Christian ideals of an avenging angel. The way the tail feathers are bent as if from his haste, but also reminiscent of the way flames bend and lick. The way his weapon is simply implied because you don't need to know what that spear looks like to know he's about to Fuck Shit Up. The way he's cradling her, the way she's clinging to him, hiding in his shoulder. The way the lily is about to fall from her fingers! The way the small patch of his cloak we can see is red, red like blood, red like the stains on her own dress. The way the patch of his cloak is on a straight line from the wings, alluding to the bloodstain on him being both worn and a part of him! The way his arm is helping to hold the lily between her weakening fingers! The arch of one eyebrow as if to ask the viewer "how could it possibly have been worth the consequences you have now earned?" The slope of his nose implying his head is tilted back, as if in judgement or disgust!” End ID].
