What a great way to bring in the New Year’s, with sand between your toes and champagne in your hands at Tobago’s premier NYE event Barefoot on the Beach. As promised 2TriniGirls are here to offer our take on chic and trendy outfits options for this awesome party. Our selection has a bit of everything for every fashion sensibility brought to you by our friends at Compass Bang Bang.

LAYERED AND LAI BACK

  Our first outfit staple is Floral, a hot item that can hold endless possibilities. Here we have a crop top and midi pencil skirt as our basic outfit, together with a string of blue pearls we have something worthy of being called classy and chic. If you are wondering of how chilly it might be add a netted blouse to the look.

The Midi skirt was a big trend in 2015 and in 2016 we are providing you with options to spice it up on the beach. Wear your midi floral skirt with a  bikini top as separates with some chunky jewelry that pop and you have transformed it into a new outfit. Surf’s up, Skirts up; not feeling the midi, no problem why not wear it as a sexy pencil dress, voila another look.

NUDE IN A BIKINI

Bikini’s are a must at the beach but how do you make this your style? Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! This ruched bikini top and bottom suit can be glamorized with the right accessories. It’s no basic bikini when paired with a boho inspired batwing throw our outfit is now flirty and cute.

Add a Geometric twist with a geometric graphic print button down shirt, make an entrance with a geometric statement piece that brings it all together. At Barefoot on the Beach shoes are optional and with this nude number and our sassy retro throw you’d be fire. Set it apart with a chunky gold chain link necklace.

Pairing this suit to enhance and not take away can be a bit difficult but 2TriniGirls have you covered. It was a kaleidoscope of colours on Sunday December 6th at AKIMBO in Arima. Stained Release an art exhibition featuring Tameika Fletcher in Akimbo’s 2nd art exhibition. The artist describes of  her first art exhibition as a personal journey of self-exploration, while birthing her desire to create. This collection of abstract ink drawings, paintings and silhouettes span two years of developments. The exhibition not only provided entertainment for the attendees but also for the passerby with a street performance of a blue devil blowing fire.

“The exhibition gives me the opportunity to present myself as an artist and express my life’s journey visually and creatively”, says artist Tameika Fletcher.

Tamieka Fletcher is a multi-faceted creator who wears many hats and roles from entrepreneur, designer, decorator to event coordinator, business consultant and motivational speaker. Being exposed to the Caribbean fashion industry at a young age, played an integral part in Tamieka’s tapping into her creativity and love for the arts.

The night commenced with an open cocktail bar reception, where guests had the opportunity to ‘mix and mingle’, while viewing the art exhibition. The guests where then treated with a surprise performance by a blue devil fire blower, which took place outside the venue. This performance was also enjoyed by the passersby.

ABOUT Tameika Fletcher Tamieka Fletcher is the owner of Bead Cafe Craft & Hobby in Trinidad and Bang Bang Home and Hobby in Tobago. She is also a board member of IABC Trinidad & Tobago. Racked!!!! Is Back!!! and we are excited! 2TriniGirls would be at Racked 4th installment at the Hotel Normandie on Sunday 29th November from 11.30 am to 5.30 pm. Why are we excited…because Racked 3 was AWESOME!!

Fashionistas have an opportunity to meet with all the hottest designers at this inclusive shopping experience. Shopping directly from the designer is one of the best parts about Racked. Racked 4 is just in time for the Christmas season. So not only do you get a chance to score some beautiful pieces of wearable art for yourself but also for your those on your Christmas list.

Racked would be held at the Hotel Normandie and there would be a special all you can eat breakfast buffet for early birds from 8:30 am. Those participating in breakfast buffet will get a special preview of the RACKED space and access to the vendors from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.

Racked– The Fashion Market in collaboration with The Shop and The Normandie will be hosting its fourth installation in the café area of the Normandie Hotel. Racked is aiming to get back that homey and inclusive feeling by partnering with one of the hubs of Trinidad and Tobago’s artistic talent and culture for this event. Designers who already have items located in the Shop will be participating through their existing space but will be bringing in different and new stock especially for the RACKED event. Shoppers will be able to explore the hotel with designers placed in and around the hotel and in The Shop adding delight and discovery to the shopping experience. CLD’s 2016 resort collection is ready to wear and she means it, from the runway to your rack you can definitely rock any of her new pieces with it’s structured inspiration it is perfect for any woman. The KIS collection is a 30 limited edition bespoke designs with the Caribbean ocean hues being reflected. The collection was inspired by Kathryn Inniss and Sean Inniss from Luna Mar. The runway and fashion market by CLD for the release of her latest collection KIS was mindblowing to say the least.

The collection featured the first male line from the designer which married well with the effortlessly chic designs of the female line. The male line emphasized a relaxed sophistication that was executed to perfection, showcasing just how comfortable a man can be with his own sense of style.The line was paired with jewelry designed by Studio Angelique and makeup by Luna Mar.

The Trend Fashion show was a presentation by Blaanix and 212 Location of the season’s most prevalent trends which would be showcased in-store. Blaanix and 212 are a couple of the most fashion forward boutiques in Trinidad and Tobago where the styles from worldwide fashion weeks can be bought.

Their 2nd annual fashion show transformed the Cascadia Hotel into fashion central showing the latest trends in both male and female fashions.The show featured many of the stunning looks we would see on Paris and New York on our very own Trinidad runway. From head-to-toe black, 70’s vibe, denim and lace with Blaanix and 212’s own their spin. Be ready to go to any of their locations and shop the looks.

Our diversity in Trinidad and Tobago is measured by our varied traditions that span different races and religions which are embraced by all in our twin island republic. Hosay is another example of how we integrate every creed and race into our festivities and celebrations. Hosay is traditionally celebrated in Pan-Indian that has gotten a Caribbean twist. It was first celebrated in Trinidad,  Jamaica and Guyana after the arrival of the East Indians as indentured labourers.

The History behind Hosay

The ten day festival is celebrated on a large scale in both north (St. James) and south (Cedros) Trinidad. The colorful procession in St. James is the largest (five tadjahs) and draws thousands of spectators of all religions every year. A considerable amount of time and money is spent in the building of miniature temples (tadjahs, taziyas, hosays, mausoleums) with bamboo, wood, paper, and tinsel. These tadjahs range in height from 10 to 30 feet and are hauled through the streets on parade days accompanied by the beating of drums (tassas) and two standards in the shape of half-moons, each carried separately on the shoulder of one man at a time. The half-moons (one red and one green) symbolize the deaths of both Hussain and his brother Hassan; red for the blood of Hussain that was shed at Karbala and green for the poisoning of Hassan, 11 years earlier.

TEDx Port of Spain is approaching its fifth year, and on Wednesday October 14th 2015 at 1:00 pm changemakers throughout Trinidad and Tobago would gather at the Queen’s Hall. The 2015 theme is a spinoff of the 2011 “Change the conversation” which then evolved into conversations of “Courage” in 2012. In 2013 they continued the movement by encouraging everyone to “Connect” and 2014 was a time of reflection from a conversation to “Doing, Undoing and Re-doing”.

The theme for TEDx Port of Spain 2015 is “Off Record”– Conversations that are NECESSARY, but ignored because we are too afraid to discuss due to its “sensitive”nature. In other words, conversations that are considered “taboo”.

“Off the record”, is a figure of speech referring to conversations unintended to be shared publicly.

“Our ethos is to foster the conversation on ideas that matter and share theses ideas publicly. In many circumstances, the ideas and desired action, involves subject matter that ARE taboo,” says Keita Demming, licensee and lead event organizer.

2TriniGirls were out and about with Trinidad and Tobago Restaurant week and we had a time. Trinidad and Tobago restaurant week is one of the most anticipated culinary events of the year. The two week festival culminated on September 27th and is a chance for foodies throughout the country to dine at a discounted price. This year is no different with options ranging from $120 – $400 (vat inclusive) for their dinner or lunch menus. Reservations were necessary for many of the restaurants.

Our first stop was the quaint restaurant located on Mucurapo Road to Chop Chops Gourmet Market & Bistro. Chop Chops is an intimate bistro with a romantic feel and their exceptional service and wonderfully courteous wait staff. The best part was seeing the head chef coming to ensure that you have enjoyed your meal.

Cafe Mariposa is nestled in the Lopinot Valley and is the main attraction of Mariposa Gardens and Bed and breakfast. The exquisite estate is home to the most authentic Caribbean dining experience, with plating incorporating the natural vegetation around. With Humming Birds wings as background music, Cafe Mariposa it is well worth the drive.

The Port reopened under new management and as a past 2TriniGirls favourite, we went to One Woodbrook Place to try the new menu.

Riley’s formerly in the Diary Bar Ariapita Avenue location were Restaurant Week virgins. They offer breakfast and lunch but catered for Restaurant Week by offering lunch for two. It’s an ideal for a light lunch date with a cute and casual feel to the layout and decor.

Hilltop Restaurant the restaurant of the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel and Tourism Institute where the chefs in training get an opportunity to wow patrons with their new skills. The service is extremely bubbly and you felt catered to. The ambience from the outside wasn’t much to speak of but the interior of the restaurant was very modern. They had a gourmet take on local favourites and ingredients. We were most impressed with their plating, our favourite dish was a the salt fish muse.

Today we had an awesome day at the 2nd International Chocolate festival where we celebrated the Trinitario Cocoa at the Santa Cruz Green Market. Last week was our first visit to the market and we were thrilled with the well oriented space and the ease of shopping. The two tiered layout of produce and craft provide a mixed market shopping experience.

The atmosphere of the Santa Cruz Valley was permeated by the aromatic scent of chocolate from the many chocolatiers at the venue. TriniGirl1 was in her glee as she indulged in chocolate in many forms and fashion. As the range included chocolate beverages both hot and cold, varying percentages of dark, bitter and sweet chocolate.

International Chocolate Day hosted by Destination Chocolate Trinidad and Tobago is in its 2nd year and is being held at the Santa Cruz Green Market. On Saturday 12th September chocolatiers and chocolate lovers are assembling to enjoy a day of celebrating the famous Trinitaro Cocoa and chocolate craft.

There would be at least 10 local chocolate makers. On the agenda for the day is traditional dancing of the cacao beans in a Cocoa House, chocolate tastings, lectures, kids chocolate activity and live music. Attendance is free but scheduled activities cost $10 and are limited to 25 participants per activity. Tickets can be purchased on the day so come early to reserve a spot!

International Chocolate Day!! International Chocolate Day hosted by Destination Chocolate Trinidad and Tobago is in its 2nd year and is being held at the Santa Cruz Green Market.

In celebration of YoPro’s 1 year anniversary in Trinidad and Tobago they partnered with the talented Rhion Romany in a presentation titled UNMASQ’D! An interactive fashion experience themed after a Venetian Carnival with arousal for all senses. There were food, drink and a cigar stations alongside the interactive fashion presentation featuring 10 local designers. Some of the fashion pieces were part of a Silent Auction in aid of the Trinidad and Tobago Autistic Society.
