drawing those images got me thinking more about their relationship from a romantic perspective (as opposed to them sharing a deep platonic bond, which is how i usually think of them) and though i sometimes joke that i consider flysabo yuri it's making me realize that i do genuinely like it a lot more when viewed through a transfem flynn lens.

and then when the biggest hurdles are finally over (post neutral route or post bonds route if we count in apocalypse) it would be at isabeau's insistence that flynn slow down & take time to consider herself again and to pursue transitioning if that is something she would come to realize she wants. and isabeau doesn't necessarily have to be a trans girl herself & their relationship doesn't necessarily have to be romantic for any of this to work but since this is re: previous post they may as well be. for me to like flysabo it has to either be platonic or yuri (or platonic yuri) and it's always good to have more trans yuri in the world

recently i've been thinking a lot about why isabeau's character fell flat for me in smtiv compared to both walter and jonathan and i thought about how i dislike that she takes second place to flynn even in her own route; she's a deeply compassionate person and on its own there is nothing wrong with characters that prefer to serve someone greater than themselves but if flynn is the male hero isabeau's role as his lover is a cliche and i don't like that. but if flynn was a trans woman the support isabeau offers her would be much more layered; i already view their relationship as one where isabeau is flynn's closest and most personal friend, but even she is not immune to his status as the people's hero & her looking up to him places unvoiced expectations on him which make him reluctant to share his deepest insecurities with her. i think isabeau realizes this & even though she doesn't know the full extent of what goes on in flynn's heart & mind she still cares a lot about him and wants him to be well, so she gently but persistently reminds him to think more about himself and to consider his own feelings. and in the event that flynn reaches a breaking point and unloads his woes onto her that moment would become her epiphany;

that despite everything, even isabeau's own infatuation, flynn is just a person, and the revelation that he'd like to be a girl but can't because there is too much going on would cement the thought more than anything else. isabeau knows better than anyone that there's a lot on their plate but after flynn's confession in the quiet moments inbetween the chaos she would start casually affirming flynn in her womanhood, little things here and there to ease her into it; offering her to try isabeau's lipstick and to braid her hair and stuff like that. just to wordlessly assure her that she's allowed to have something for herself, and that there is someone there for her who sees her not as larger than life but as someone with their own wants and needs.
