If you "don't understand" how people could have voted for Trump then you don't get to have an opinion about the election. You have shown that you do not possess the skills necessary to analyze the situation.

Also if you blame the media for Biden losing you don't get to have an opinion on anything. Biden was visibly sundowning on stage. It happened where everyone saw it. He was not forced out by the mean ol' Trump-loving media. The media, which was overwhelmingly anti-Trump and anyone who does not see this is delusional, said he had to drop out because he was clearly senile, clearly going to lose the election if he was the candidate, and the media was anti-Trump and did not want Trump to win.

Biden's actions in material reality had consequences in material reality. There was not a primary in 2024 because we could see what happened and there wasn't a primary. The party aligned behind the incumbent while, and this is important, insulting and lying about anyone concerned with Biden's mental competency. They staked credibility, which they did not have much of, on Biden being competent. Then he was very visibly senile on stage where everyone could see it. Then Harris had to be the candidate, despite being a very bad candidate and literally and not figuratively a diversity hire, because we did not do the primary where we attempt to pick a good candidate. She only had 100 days to campaign due to decisions the Democratic Party made and that nobody else forced them into, decisions like "instead of doing the part where we pick a good candidate, run an extremely unpopular incumbent who is clearly going senile and insult and lie about anyone who notices."

Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother found her a touch ungrateful last time, and has decided not to appear to her this time around to teach her a lesson in gratitude. This Cinderella, without the memory of the last time, is still a terrified, miserable woman desperate to escape her awful situation.

Yes, which is why the concept here is instead 'People in fantasy settings where there is plentiful magic have access to options that we do not.'

In a world where lost limbs and permanent disabilities are one wandering priest away from being restored to perfectly whole, and where magical replacements are a viable and sometimes even cheap option? One cannot just linearly transpose our version of society onto it.

And to say otherwise is to assume that people with disabilities should NOT avail themselves of perfect healing when it is widely and readily available.

Any kind of fantastical storytelling started to suck when people stopped wanting to go into a magical, different world and engage with that world on its terms.

From this post to those "you have dragons but still have to have racism/sexism?" kinds of arguments, people have lost this concept that characters must deal with conflicts by maneuvering within their world and what it has that, when well written, feels like it has existed before them, exists beyond them, and will exist after them. If there is high magic everywhere with magical healing then yes, as Roxy said, there will be options for the disabled that don't exist here. Because it's a fantasy.

And as for roleplaying...it's a disabled player's fantasy too. Why don't you want to make yourself cool and ride a fucking battlecat or float or something? Every player ever does it we're all aware we're dumb nerds so we pretend we're cool in made-up lands. It's not a judgement on people's worth.

I’m not stupid. I understood that just fine. Hell, my kids would have understood that just fine. But no one bothered to tell us.

i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.

every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.

not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.

"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!

No, it's just focusing on how many medical professionals will tell patients to do or not do something and give no explanation as to why. Which can easily lead to issues because people don't know the severity of doing otherwise. They may also perceive some nuance in the phrasing that was unintended.

For a basic example, I've had a doctor tell someone to fast by saying, "Don't eat anything for 24 hours." If that patient had assumed that it was thus okay to drink stuff, that could be very dangerous. I work tech support, and I see similar things constantly.

Do not assume your doctor is doing everything on purpose, or even correctly. I have had a doctor prescribe me a lethal combination of medicine. I looked it up and refused to take them. They actually argued with me for a bit until I finally got them to check. Then I promptly got a different medication prescribed.

So is telling the parents 10 times.

God knows I have reason to know doctors aren't perfect, but there are plenty of idiotic parents and patients who disobey clear instructions, and I don't think that's all on the doctors even if they were unclear.

And as you pointed out, parents can also ask if they're unsure.

tbh i don’t think any aesthetic or fandom is inherently leftist. people will say “you can’t be goth/punk/emo/alt/whatever if you’re not a leftist!” and “how do conservative star trek fans exist?” and like. it’s simple. they’re literally just aesthetics and fandoms. there is nothing inherently leftist about dressing a certain way, or listening to certain music, or watching certain tv shows.

i think a lot of people want to believe that performing a certain aesthetic or being in a certain fandom makes you a better leftist, because they’re at least semi-aware that they aren’t doing enough. but instead of going out and trying to improve anything, they just reframe something they’re already doing as radical and leftist.
