[Spoilers for Past within (mild), Rusty lake Roots (big ones)]
In Rusty Lake Roots, when we are first introduced to the Vanderbooms (excluding Aldous and Laura who were both in games before, though neither under their full names), we are introduced to the triplets and Ida Reizger, later Vanderboom.
One pararell I really enjoy in this game is one of Ida and the butterfly.
When the triplets Samuel, Emma and Albert are in the garden, there is a butterfly. Emma and Albert, the two siblings, want the butterfly. [Both Samuel and Albert, the two brothers, want Ida.]
Albert tries to get the butterfly, but fails to reach it by pure force. [Albert doesn't get Ida, likely because he is... he is a bad person.] Emma, manages to get the butterfly into a jar by offering it food. While we don't know his intentions, baby Albert tried to get the butterfly by grabbing it, meaning he would likely have hurt it in someway, intentional or not. [Samuel marries Ida because he cares about her and is kind to her. Albert would likely have hurt her, considering what we know about him.]
Albert gets incredibly angry he didn't get the butterfly and blames it for his tradegies (the bees scarring him), so in the end he kills it. [Albert gets angry he can't marry Ida and blames both her and Samuel heavily for this. He ends up killing them both.]
In the Past Within, you can choose between a bee or a butterfly (game play mechanic), both of them seen as things Albert view as hurt him. He mentions his siblings being bad people for laughing at him when he was stung and not letting him have the butterfly. He also still speaks about Ida like a possesion rather than a person, and is angry he couldn't have her.
In conclusion, Ida is the butterfly. Hope this was good enough for you!
