.. IT ALMOST DIDN'T HAPPEN!... So, what is the most important part of making a powerful film? Is it one thing? No, it's many many elements... BUT, If your actors cannot go on their own honest private journey with their character, have sacrificial truthful moments, and on this occasion play the part of my very own dear Grandmother Millija, then no amount of beautiful Cinematography or great editing can fix that! It's so vital and even some experienced directors just don't get it! This is not the case however with Sophie Don, who was actually a last minute replacement for another great actress, TV & Radio celeb Heather Maltman who's network pulled her out overseas mere days before shooting was to start. Aside from having a director breakdown, Heather introduced us to Sophie Don who had just finished shooting Red Billabong. Sophie graciously agreed with days to spare and her performance is something outstanding! So, effortlessly and emotionally truthful was she on set that it brought a tear to me whilst shooting her goodbye scene at the train station. Don't tell anyone... My Grandmother always said she never felt special... Well, not by Sophie's performance. Thank you Sophie and your male counterpart Adrian Twigg could not have had a better leading lady.
