we are the stars.
you didn't really know what he was talking about to be honest. you never knew. but you never could find it in yourself to say so and make him think he's bothering you. the smile on jonghyun's face as he talked about the different stars and mythology behind the constellations is something you would never dare to ruin. instead, you buried your head into his neck as he talked. he stopped to laugh softly, before continuing.
yep, definitely aren't bothered, you thought when his face shined as he spoke. in fact, when he stopped after his mouth got dry, you wish he hadn't. you wanted to hear more of his rambling, more about the thing he is so passionate about.
however, the silence allows you to observe the beauty of your lover, your best friend. you wonder how did you get so lucky to find someone like him. how did you manage to find your soulmate in this lifetime? you've lived life after life, centuries passing without him. and now, finally, you are here besides the man who people would think hung the stars in the sky with the way you look at him. he basically did, you had the urge to argue. in my galaxy, he's the reason they all shine so brightly.
"i'll buy a star for you," jonghyun says, breaking the peaceful silence. you were both still lying in the field, staring at the sky you'll probably never have the chance to again. there aren't really any stars in seoul unlike here in yeongyang.
"is that so? which one?" you ask playfully.
"the brightest one i can find. i'll travel just to find it for you." you look into his eyes with a teasing glint to only have his be seen with a different emotion. your smile lowers as you look at the man curiously before it hit you. he was serious. and it scares you how serious jonghyun was. how seriously he loves you.
what you didn't know is that he's scared too. he's scared of the intensity of his love and how deep it goes.
what he didn't know, however, is that you can easily reciprocate that love. you sit up, getting out of his embrace slightly so he can hear you loud and clearly. "i'll find you the biggest one in the sky. i'll get you the sun."
jonghyun laughs lightly, a laugh you can observe for years, for centuries, and learn new things. the way his head tilts back slightly, the way his mouth opens up widely, the way a melodic sound comes out of it, the way his eyes crinkle. it makes your heart hurt and regret not meeting him before even then you already did. how have you passed by him in all your previous lives and felt your heart beat faster, but not act on it?
the feeling of regret didn't last long as jonghyun pulls you down to be lying next to him again. you are reminded that it doesn't even matter, because you have him now and aren't planning on losing him.
lying next to jonghyun in the silence again, you know that you have nothing to worry about. just like the stars, your love is old, dating back in time. and while it's old, it's also everlasting.
like the stars, you shine brighter than ever in the sky together, even when you die.
