My favorite Star Wars character in each Star Wars movie/show pt. 1

From The Acolyte we have Yord Fandor, the Jedi with a yellow lightsaber and the personality of Marge Simpson (complimentary). He’s well meaning but ineffectual, which is a perfect microcosm of the Jedi order in the series.

Everyone who talks about tales of the Jedi, talks about how good the Dooku stuff was, and with good reason.

Episode I - The Phantom Menace gives us the platonic ideal for a Jedi (aside from unintentionally setting off the dominos that would lead to the rise of the empire) Qui-gon Jinn, a Jedi so offbeat he bothers the Jedi council.

I don’t know when the Cad Bane flashbacks in Tales of the Underworld take place in canon, but I’ll hazard a guess. Anyway blue cowboy man cool.

Spoilers it’s gonna be Obi-wan for the next few projects. Obi-wan is great because he’s only cool by accident. He’s always either the smartest person in the room or deeply under-qualified. Case in point, Episode II - Attack of the Clones features an Obi-wan who is constantly way in over his head and trying to fall upward.

Clone Wars (2003) Obi-wan is a little more hyper competent, this version leans more into his cool side. He’s a badass military leader who is this close to giving up trying to wrangle Anakin.

The Clone Wars movie is the first time we really see Obi-wan’s negotiator persona used effectively. more to come…

My favorite Star Wars character in each film/show part 2.

I almost put Ahsoka here for the 2008 Clone Wars series, but ultimately I was still team Obi-wan. Plus this is where his complicated relationship with Mandalorians gets introduced.

And then there was Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the film with so many great Obi-wan moments particularly in the last third.

From the Bad Batch we have perhaps the most autistically coded character in all of Star Wars. Plus I’ve really enjoyed how they use Tech in season two (I still haven’t finished the series).

Barriss was far and away the highlight of the Tales of the Empire anthology. They managed to give her a character a relatively satisfying end (which is more than I can say for some anthology characters).

Sam Witwer continues to shine as Maul in his title series, the character has never been more nuanced, menacing and strangely tragic.

Still the most charismatic and memorable aspect of Solo: a Star Wars story is Donald Glover as Lando. A performance that only becomes more impressive after watching all of Community.

Choosing a favorite character from Andor was genuinely a challenge, but ultimately I had to choose Luthen Rael, the dark mastermind who made the rebellion possible.

Obi-wan? More like Obi-one last time! He’s extra sad in this one. Ewan’s natural accent comes out a little more in this one.

Star Wars: Rebels was never short on likable characters. Enter Captain Hera Syndula, an icon of the rebellion, who gets to be both a daring pilot and wise leader (see Poe? It can be done).

Rogue One gave us the bestest droid in all of Star Wars, the droid of sass and one of the funniest characters in the whole franchise, K2SO!

Speaking of sass, the OG gifted us Princess Leia Organa, a five nothing ball of rage and determination who will do anything to save the Galaxy.

Who is more cool and complex in Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back than Han Solo. Look at that jacket and that swagger.

Literally my favorite Star Wars character at his peak. Hard fit, harder resolution to his character arc. Bless you Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

If you’re shocked Grogu isn’t in this slot, stay tuned for later. Din Djarin in the context of the show works so well as a stoic badass with a heart of gold, very Batman.

I think we all agree that the best parts of Book of Boba Fett were the Din Djarin focused sections.

Time (and a recast) did wonders for my perception of Ezra Bridger, in a Ahsoka. He’s like a goofy guy but also strangely wise.

Everyone say thanks to the Skeleton Crew for giving us the galactic icon know as Neel. I would die for Neel.

I won’t get into details because Mandalorian and Grogu is still in theaters.

Look, I’ve only seen the first episode of ‘Resistance… I’m superimposing my good will towards movie BB-8 onto his animated counterpart because why not.

More than any other character, the sequel trilogy squandered Finn, but Episode VII - The Force Awakens laid an incredible foundation for his story. He might even have one of the strongest single movie arcs in the franchise.

Yeah it’s controversial, but his endgame is so narratively powerful. Mark Hamill is acting his ass off and it shows. And I do like what they did with him in Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

Maybe the only true glup shitto on this post, we have Babu Frik from Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.
