It’s been said many times, by many people who have strung their words together more eloquently than I ever could, but so many of the intense interactions, bold moves or sacrifices that these two make for each other are usually reserved for love interests.
Even as Killian begs Emma not to sacrifice herself she pushes him aside as she has done many times through this season in favour of checking up on Regina, spending time with Regina, drinking with Regina. And Robin makes a dash for the vortex only to get thrown back, Emma explains his foolhardy attempt won’t work; she could hand him the dagger and let him have a go but she doesn’t, she gives him a look not too dissimilar to the one she does in the authors secret room when he rests his hand on top of Regina’s hand.
Okay so Emma tells Killian she loves him and Regina runs straight into Robin’s waiting arms, but both of those moments pale in comparison to the main focus of the scene, that Emma sacrificed herself to darkness to save Regina’s light.
