[in spirit; I didn't copy this word by word] and for the angst and hurt/comfort genres.

"Dad?" Chris asks, warily. "Don't you like it?" Vision blurry, Eddie nods. "I love it, mijo," Eddie rasps. He wipes at his eyes, setting the picture on the table to lean over the couch and tug Christopher into a tight hug. Pressing his lips to Chris' curls, Eddie shifts to pick the frame up and sets it on his knee. "Oh shit," Chris mutters, sitting up, cheeks red. "What is it?" Eddie asks, biting his lip. Chris turns even redder. "I gave you the wrong one. That's Buck's. You- yours has you in it." *** Christopher accidentally gives Eddie the wrong Christmas present. But it turns out to be just the gift Eddie needed.

Home for Christmas

The internet wavers and Chris' face freezes. Eddie touches his fingers to the screen before it goes black with a small connection lost in the middle. A heavy weight rests on his shoulders and Eddie stays sitting in front of the black screen for too long. He feels like crying but that's not what Diaz men do. Eventually he gets shunted out of his seat for some other poor sod to try and connect to he family. Eddie looks out over the long line of soldiers and feels like a lemming, if the government of the United States of America said to jump, in unison, these men and women will, Eddie included. No questions asked. Orders are to be followed or people die. It hasn't escaped Eddie's notice that throughout the call only Chris was on screen. He wasn't alone in the kitchen, in the small home in South Bedford Street, Eddie knows this, he heard his husband's voice but the fact that Buck stayed off camera feels like punishment. Determination flares through him. Eddie stalks off, over uneven sand to find his C.O. * Eddie is in Afghanistan and he tries his damnedest to make it home for Christmas.

"It has to be perfect," Buck hisses. Coffee scented breath wafting over Eddie's face. "No it doesn't," Eddie replies, pushing Buck away slightly. "It's his first Christmas without his parents. It's going to suck, he's going to put them on his letter to Santa. He's going to have more temper tantrums than you've ever seen." Buck glares at Eddie. "You know my kid that well, huh?" It's the first time he's ever acknowledged Theo as his and Eddie isn't going to point that out. Instead, he shrugs, "I had a kid like that. His mom left him with a strange man he didn't know." Eddie hates remembering that first Christmas without Shannon, recalling how much he wanted that day to end. The number of times Chris said I hate you that month is etched into his psyche. Twenty-nine times. * It's Buck's first Christmas with Theo, and Eddie has some idea what his friend is going to encounter. His help isn't wanted and Eddie, and Chris, go to Texas for the holidays.

"I'll write it down." Margaret announces, she takes the shopping list off the fridge and talks as she writes. "Spruce pine. Full leaves. At least six foot five, no more than six foot seven." Head lifting, eyes cold as she glares at them both. "And straight." The not like you hangs in the air. Taking the paper that she's holding out, Buck tucks it into his pocket. "Well, I'm sure we'll find the straightest tree we can." Eddie grins sharply. "Full of pride," he adds, eyes sparkling. Buck falls a little bit more in love with him and he doesn't know how to cope with it because he hadn't even realised he is in love with Eddie until five minutes ago. *** Buck goes to Hershey for his parents' Christmas party. Eddie, naturally, follows.

there's a new beginning

It's nearly Christmas and Buck has planned the meal he'll make. Bobby's recipes just like last year, except this time the food won't end up in the trash. They're having a small affair, just Buck, Theo, Eddie, and Chris. There's something brewing between him and Eddie, echoes of it wouldn't be so crazy ring in Buck's head. Sometimes their eyes catch and hold, Eddie's cheeks pink and Buck thinks I want this forever. "Okay, buddy," Buck says, kneeling down next to Theo. "Which decoration next?" Theo frowns looking between the boxes of Buck's Christmas decorations. He reaches out and picks up a crudely cut out yellow star with smears of purple glitter. "Chris made that," Buck tells him. "Go find a branch." With fierce determination, Theo makes his way to the tree and hangs the star right next to a Christmas tree that he made at kindergarten. * The second Christmas without Bobby.

The old has passed

A timer dings and Buck hums to himself as he pulls the turkey out of the oven and sets it on the counter to rest, covering it with foil, just like Bobby's instructions say. Buck starts on the gravy, whisking and reading, making sure it's perfect. While that's thickening on the stove, Buck drains the potatoes and mashes them with milk and butter, plus a dash of salt. Everything is ready for him to plate up, Buck lets out a sigh of relief because he has made Bobby's Christmas dinner identically. It smells like Bobby's does. It tastes like Bobby's does. It's almost like Buck has had Bobby in the kitchen with him all day. Buck sets the turkey on the big platter he's laid out, he spoons the mashed potato into a bowl, takes the roasted vegetables out of the oven to add around the turkey. Carrying the two dishes out to the dining room, Buck sets them on the nicely laid table. It looks perfect. White tablecloth, red table runner with gold thread, a couple of candles, and Bobby's Christmas dinner. * The first Christmas without Bobby.

Just a little update on the upcoming challenge.

Prompts will be released on 17th June (Australia) however the challenge itself runs from 1st July to 31st July.

The AO3 collection will open from the 1st and will close at the end of the day on 31st July.

911 Christmas In July - A Summer Interlude

I am planning on running a challenge for July - Christmas themed. Middle of Winter for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere and to break up the hiatus as we wait for Season 10.

But I am after some info. Some of you may remember for the Christmas challenge last year I had an advent list of prompts, plus two 12 Days of boards - one of quotes and one of Christmas lyrics (I've put them below so you know what I'm referring to).

So my question is are you interested in participating (if so I'll tag you in reminders and when the challenge is released) and would you prefer same as last year with 3 options, only 24 prompts, 24 prompts plus quotes, 24 prompts plus song lyrics, or some other mixture eg bingo card (elaborate in comments)

S2 Maddie and Eddie to LA at the same time and turn out they're married (Doug is long gone) but what they don't tell anyone is they're only married for insurance purposes- so Eddie can get Chris into all the good schools and have him covered if anything was too happen

Cue jealous buck and him unknowingly flirting with Eddie all the time and he kisses hm (knowing about him and Maddie being married) and then they start fucking regularly on the side
