I'm disappointed by Helaena's overall character arc in season 3, I know it's personal because I'm a little over Ophelia-type women in media but it infuriates me in this case that her death is mostly a character-development moment for Rhaenyra. It'll certainly advance the plot next season but ironically, it felt like Helaena wasn't the main character in her own death. And yet she was so interesting! She was a dreamer! She saw the future! She was a little strange and she had personality, she liked bugs, she wanted to keep chickens, she loved her children, she aspired for more out of life than what was given to her (or more like, forced onto her). I feel like there's so much that could've been done with her character instead of what we got.

“Gwayne thought him cruel, but Gwayne thought that of many.”

How do I even begin to explain how much this line wrecks me.

It says so much about Gwayne AND Alicent's respective moral compasses and values, and possibly how they were raised as children.

Alicent having “duty must come before all else” hammered into her skull since she was a child, accepting so much violence directed towards her as a consequence of that, cruelty branded as duty, to a point she's only now realizing none of this was particularly worth it in the end (and also realizing she was perpetuating this cycle with her daughter).

Meanwhile, we don't know that much about Gwayne's upbringing, but there's evidently some history with Ormund based on their interactions onscreen, and the fact that he desperately tries to call out callous or cruel behavior from those around him, especially when they're made in the name of duty and family honor/values. He doesn't agree with the way Daeron is being flaunted by Ormund as the legitimate king. He wants to preserve his nephew, but has no idea how.

Gwayne and Alicent are really two faces of the same coin and I need them to see each other again and have more scenes together or I'll start setting things on fire.
