like how dare I have hobbies, right?
On Tumblr, you could make a post that briefly mentions "seafood" and someone asks you what that is, and you figure that they've just never heard the term, and explain that it's just the word that covers all non-mammal marine animals that people commonly eat - fish, shrimp, mussels, etc. You know, food animals from the sea. And they still don't get it, ask you to elaborate, and then you elaborate on the explanation and elaborate the elaboration, on and on as this person keeps being more and more confused by your insufficient explanations, and you are just as confused by their confusion.
And then it turns out that they have somehow never before encountered the concept that some people eat animals that are pulled out of The Big Wet. Unaware that marine fauna can even be fit for human consumption. Yes, they've had tuna before, but tuna comes from cans, not the sea. No, they've never wondered why the can of tuna has a picture of a random fish printed on the label.
It DO be like this
Was reading "Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna" or "she loves to cook and she loves to eat" and being honest, I wasn't expecting much but now it is surely one of my favorites manga. Really love how the author works with the "woman only live fo man" bullshit, like it's treated with such care in the manga, it's heartwarming honestly, the way it also portraits social homophobia showing how hetero normative people are without even realizing and all this with a cute and healthy main couple is really something nice, 10/10 I'd say. Not to mention how the characters' relationship with food is written and family issues too, this manga is really everything
Also as a general recommendation, please both read AND watch Tsukutabe/She Likes to Coook and She Likes to Eat.
Amazing comfy domestic yuri that doesn't shy away from talking about queer politics and issues.
also the author is cool as fuck
this manga really hits the nail on the head in depicting the death by a thousand cuts of casual everyday heteronormativity

Normally I just ignore yaoi from fandoms I'm not in but when Spirk crosses my dash I always take a moment to appreciate it out of respect for our founding fujoshis

Sensei's got new business cards! She showed it off today on IG, alongside some really fancy card holders. It features her three main couples from her three better-known works. You can see the original post [here]
...But I know you all wanna focus more on our favorite food ladies, so I did a quick edit of just Nomoto and Kasuga!
Such cuties~

so a very long time ago, my dad worked with an arson investigator
this guy was often one of the first people on the scene following a suspected arson, once emergency services had done what they needed to do. at times, there were also civilians on the periphery. often, they were freaking out, and understandably so; their home or workplace had just, quite literally, gone up in smoke
this investigator wouldn’t try to calm them down. he wouldn’t comfort them or be a shoulder to cry on.
instead, he’d walk up to the person most visibly losing their shit, hand them a fire extinguisher, and say “hey, can you keep an eye out for any other fires, and if you see one, can you put it out with this?”
of course, there was no actual risk of another fire. he wouldn’t be on the scene investigating if there was even a chance that the fire wasn’t completely put out. but the bystander didn’t need to know that
because that person, without fail, would immediately pull it together, take the fire extinguisher, and stand guard. they were, at least temporarily, calm enough for this investigator to do this job
my dad has told me the parable of the fire extinguisher a hundred times, and i think about it a lot. i think about what it says about people and crises. i think about what it says about the grounding power of having a purpose. and i think about the importance of letting someone help me through something, even if that help is just going to be another casserole to throw into the freezer, because useless or not, that fire extinguisher might be the only thing holding them together
Yuri Yamada autographs both Emi and Manami's copies of her new essay-book (Manami's POV)
Manami and Emi: Yuri Yamada Fangirls
Manami and Emi went to the first day of Yuri Yamada's current play, known in English as "I'm Trying to Understand You, But..." Both ladies said on NemuCha that they wanted to both check it out and also get their copies of DAMEPAR signed. Fortunately, the post-show event has copies of the new book and signings!
Manami's post says"
"The long-awaited autograph session♡ The first essay in [DAMEPAR] was also good."
Emi's post says:
"I finally got the autograph I've been longing for!"
She then links to where you can grab a copy of the book. A bonus message, though, came in the way of Emi replying to Manami's Story. She added:
"Manana-chan was also thrilled to have the autograph session she'd been longing for. She had talked about it on Nemucha, and I'm so glad it came true so soon ♡ Congratulations on the release of your essay, [Yuri], I love it!"
If you're curious, here's a translation of both ladies' thoughts on the play as well:
"Last time, I went to see 'Luxury and Poverty' [another of Yamada's plays]. This time I watched 'I'm Trying to Understand You, But...' This production was performed in Japan six years ago, in Paris three years ago, and now it's here again. The story opens with the same plot, but the flow of the play, while reflecting the times, is deeply meaningful. It was a truly fascinating production, including the after-talk. It's fascinating because there are so many different elements to it that I don't want to sum it up in one word. I just want as many people as possible to see it. Yamada Yuri-sama, are you from the future? I always wonder."
"I had thought the same thing during Tsukutabe, but the words that Yamada Yuri-san weave together express the vagueness and doubts hidden in our daily lives, gently healing wounds that we ourselves may not even be aware of. [The themes of] Protecting ourselves and how to deal with others was such an afterglow after watching that I couldn't sleep last night. It was a truly wonderful play. 👏✨️"
The encounters were posted as videos, which I will share later, if you're curious!
I think about this all the time. 🌙 | Poor Lena
