Here's my concept for a lusan w/ Trans-fem sanji fic: time travel (temporary) where sanji is sent back and is like "Oh fuck I didn't know I was a lady yet I can't tell them who I am", has a mental breakdown when her past self flirts w/ her, but manages to avoid being figured out.

Obviously she figures luffy is horrible at seeing through disguises so that should apply here and so asks for the strawhats help getting back to her own time. Only for luffy to be like "sure thing future sanji!" Bc love surpasses idiocy or something

I read a lot of discussions about the emotional moments of OP and where they cried, and it's crazy how few people ever bring up Luffy in Sabaody (maybe bc Marineford overshadows it.)

But watching Luffy scream and claw at the dirt and slam his head over and over was so insanely visceral. Like prior to that he was just a happy-go -lucky guy who could get serious when the situation called for it. But when he loses his friends, we see this frighteningly raw part of him for the very first time.

You can tell he's feeling so many extreme emotions that they're just tearing their way out of his body. He fucked up, he lost the people he loves most, he's all alone, and there's nothing he can do about it. Even if he somehow beats Kuma, it won't bring them back.

Luffy, the guy who runs headfirst into everything, who smiled and said "oopsy daisies" when he thought he was going to get executed, just completely shatters apart.

I think about that scene a lot. And maybe it's because it happens first so the impact hits you more, but I personally think it was more devastating to watch than the Marineford aftermath.

It never ceases to surprise me how self-destructive Luffy is. I mean, surprise isn't the best word to describe the feeling, but I'm always a little taken aback by it. It shows even in minor situations, such as when Dorry trapped Luffy under that gigantic skull so he wouldn't interfere with his fight with Broggy. He slammed his head on the floor several times because he needed to get out and do something but was helpless. In fact, slamming his head like that seems to be the first instinct after something happens that causes desperation, like in Amazon Lily right after finding out Ace died or when the entire crew disappeared in front of his eyes in Sabaody. He will literally self-destruct to manage whatever he needs to do. Getting Nami and Sanji to the top of a 5 thousand meter tall mountain to get medical assistance while bare foot and bare handed, with only shorts and a no sleeve top, surrounded by snow and wind. Giving away years of his life to save Ace. Trying to literally rip off his arms in Whole Cake Island because he cannot lose someone else.

It just hurts me a lot anytime I see him doing something like that.

Theres a part during egghead, specifically when luffy grabs Kizaru the first time, and i love the way they animated Luffy's movement.

He moves (and looks) like the Shishimai, those traditional Japanese lion dances I think it's a cool detail that adds to the "deity" and/or "mystical" aspect of his gear 5 form.
