More drawing variations & my reasoning for the design below the cut

Like with Merik, I wanted to try and illustrate him with a real world condition, but I felt a bit more limited than I did with musical Erik. There's certain criteria Cherik's condition needs to fit into;

-He's able to easily convince Christine that the mask is purely for anonymity

-We have it confirmed as a fact from Gerard that it's congenital

-This man has probably never been to an actual doctor?? But he still made it to a (mostly) healthy adulthood

-Also, personally, i do want him to still resemble Charles Dance

That.. actually really limits what it could be. For the time being I've illustrated him with multiple vascular birthmarks and a crooked nose, but I might try some other options in the future too. It does feel a bit difficult to find a "right" way to illustrate a face that Christine literally faints upon seeing? I think I just have to accept that Christine was being dramatic lol.

Drawing different versions of The Phantom!

Next up, the one that got me interested in the phandom in the first place, ALW Erik :) below the cut is my thought process on the design

Since I know more about this version of the character, I wanted to try redesigning him to have an IRL facial condition. I spent a lot of time on Changingfaces.org in particular for this (great website, really well put together and for a good cause. I would definitely recommend checking it out).

There's so many different ways to interpret the character and what his condition could be, and basically none of the adaptations aim to make it something realistic (as far as i know). For now, I've landed on segmental vitiligo and Parry romberg syndrome.

These conditions aren't really congenital, but I think because Merik has so little information about his backstory and childhood, there's more wriggle room available. Maybe he BELIEVES his face is congenital because the onset was so early in his childhood that he doesn't remember a time before...

But in actuality, it's just that at some point, the poor guys immune system decided to rlly hate that one side of his face 😔 I do think this version of him would get migraines

I started with The Original as kind of a baseline, though full honesty i have not read the book just yet. If I do read it i might draw an updated version! As it is, this one is very inspired by dross-the-fish

James redesign! He's another one of my favourites. I mean, intellectual *and* dominant?

I really like long hair, and for James I particular i think that could tie into his arc around parental control and freedom in some cool ways.

I'm imagining demon royalty could have a sort of Confucionist mindset around hair, with those rules being the most strict and intensive for the heir.

Symbols of natural beauty and health like hair could be especially important for an incubus, too.

Otherwise i just thought it'd be fun to give him some dark academia style outfits 🤷

I've also completed my redesigns of Matthew and Sam, but I'm considering reposting those with nudity censored out cuz as it is I'm not sure people are seeing them? Tumblr is confusing.

Erik redesign! I do really like his original design, he's so pretty. So this version is just him being pretty in a different way lol (I like curly hair)

It's fun to play around with the kind of outfits he might wear, knowing he's a bit more formal than the rest and becomes a literal fashion designer. In particular I like to draw him in ouji and 70s fashion :)

Matthew redesign! The blue was fun to colour.

Tbh I'm not *as* attached to Matthew and Erik as some of the others 😔 but I think he'd be so fun to hang out with and he'd grow on me!

My redesigns are definitely making the brothers look more different from each other than in the game, but I figure they are only *half* siblings. If they can have entirely different hair and stripe colours, why not different facial features? I've also adopted the headcannon from World Enough in Time about incubi taking much more after their mothers than fathers.

Anyway! Matthew's outfits were pretty fun to draw, and I love Simon

Sam redesign! First off: this is probably the most care and detail i have put in to drawing a penis before. Hopefully it paid off lmao.

Anyway, Sam was my first love in SMTO- he taught me what a tsundere was. Massively influential on my young mind.

For my redesign I had two main things in mind; I wanted him to look more visibly athletic (Tanned, a bit more bulky/muscular), and I wanted to lean more into punk fashion cuz I like it 🥰

I haven't developed this idea much yet, but I did think a bit about how in a lot of cultures body modifications can be coming of age or status symbols, especially for warriors. Maybe this could be relevant to Sam? Or maybe he just got the piercings to look cool lol, I think it works for him either way.

I also thought it'd be fun to give the guys more variety in hair length, and Sam having almost a buzzcut works rlly well paired with some of my headcannons for James.

Had to do my #1 beloved Damien first. I rlly like the idea of his demon form having like, borderline-unnaturally smooth & clear skin, while his human glamour is covered in freckles

Also been thinking about how scarring might work for demons who have super-healing.

My headcannon is that in order for them to form scars, they need to A) Be in a low energy state, preventing their usual magical healing & B) Be injured badly enough for scarring while in this state for a long enough period of time

I imagine Sam and Damien are the only ones to have been in a situation quite that dire. (Sam because he travels and picks fights more, Damien becuase. Well.)

Anyway, I haven't changed Damien's design *too* much because I love him and he's perfect as he is. Mostly just wanted to draw him in cute modern outfits. Also I HC he rlly likes sanrio characters & other Japanese mascots ty bye

Currently imagining a soulmate AU where soulmates can hear each what music the other is listening to.

Like. Soulmate A suddenly smiling in a grocery store when they hear a song they don't like that much, because though they haven't met them yet, they know their soulmate loves that song.

Or soulmates who speak different languages trying to figure out where their soulmate is from by the music they hear but not even knowing how to spell some of the phrases in the music.

Or a soulmate AU where not everyone is connected to their soulmate the same way, and only one member of a pair hears the other's music. But before they realise this, soulmate A just thinks the other is really good at guessing their tastes when soulmate B plays the exact songs they like for them.

Or one soulmate learning to sing and play guitar just so they can communicate with their soulmate through it before they meet them.

I gotta do the dishes now bye
