"Donât bother me from doing my homework, please."
"Homework and James Potter never go hand in hand. Everyone knows that."
"No, that is not a good enough excuse - Iâll still have to take points from you for that."
"You are such a little brown nosing- if you must, then you must."
"I wonder if I pull the "Iâm still not feeling well" card I could get out of the million page essay McGonagall assigned me."
"Coming from someone who is around her a lot longer than you are, don't get your hopes up."
Sirius crouched down in front of Peter, trying to keep the amusement off of his face. Heâd recognize that little furball anywhere. âHello there Wormtail. Sneaking off to the kitchens are we? And without inviting me? Iâm wounded. Completely hurt. I donât think Iâll ever recover from the emotional trauma.â
Peter squeaked at the playful words of his friend Sirius. It was true that he had left for the kitchens without extending an invitation to one of his dearest friends, but the call of the stomach is one that should be answered alone.
Peter, turning away from the crouching Gryffindor, darted his small rat body into a shadowy part of the corridor, morphing back into his human form. "You know I would have asked you to come if I knew where you were." Peter said in a whisper.
"Things like?
This wonât happen again, Iâm completely fine. Youâre a Gryffindor and friends with my enemy, Potter, shouldnât you want exactly that?â
"Usual things like: changes in sleeping patterns, excess exercise, stress as well as a whole plethora of other things."
"And normally you'd be correct, but I am trying this nice thing."
"According to other people it is. The wizarding world prefers cats, why, I have no idea. Everyone should like dogs more become theyâre cuter and friendlier."
"I think that it has something to do with tradition. The wizarding community prefers cats because it's always been that way. Weird, really."
"Momentary lapse of judgement I assure you."Â Amycus says with a tight smile. âThough if you continue to irritate me I can not guarantee that it wonât happen again.â
"I didn't even think that my words had any affect on you." Peter gives his own smirk in retort of Amycus'. "It's nice to know that I am doing my job though. Irritating Slytherin pests like yourself brings me oh so much joy." Peter finishes his half lie, hoping that the other would take it as truth. In all actuality this was the mask that Peter fought to put on; a mask that he used to try and hide the insecurities. A mask of jokes in hopes that no one really see the confusion he deals with everyday.Â
Amycus sighs âHow about instead you go somewhere else and leave me alone?â
"That is the most I have heard you say to me ever." Peter stands stunned, wracking his brain for something smart to say. "Am I finally worthy to be spoken to?"
"I hate the hospital wing so that is definitely ruled out. And I donât feel ill, I have no idea what happened.."
"Emma, there things other than illness that cause fatigue."
"You should seriously get it checked out. I wouldn't want you to pass out while on your broom."
"I have a confession to makeâŠ
I like dogs better than cats.â
Peter laughed to himself at the random confession produced by Greta. "No shocker there really. Everyone should like dogs more because then there would be less animals at the school."Â and less of a chance I would be eaten by a cat.
"Shouldnât you?"
"I wonât tell anyone if you donât tell anyone."
Peter paused, It was true that he himself had neglected today's classes, but he always did.
"Alright."
"I take that as a compliment."
"As you should, Sybil. Say, what are you doing out in the halls right now? Shouldn't you be in class?"
âMerlin, what happened?â
"You fell asleep, dear. Could be fatigue of some sort. Maybe you should go to the hospital wing."
"Itâs such an amazing day."
"You're such a weird one."
The Rat and the Werewolf
Rough was probably an understatement, but Remus smiled at his best friend, pulling himself even further up in his bed to at least be sitting. Heâd been hoping for a visit from one of the other Marauders, and he should have known Peter would be the one to stop by. Itâd meant a lot to have a person as cautious as he knew Peter could be, willing to continue to be his friend, all things considered. His condition considered, really.Â
Still. His head was hurting and so were his limbs. Being stretched and pulled and morphed was not a pleasant thing to go through. Not to mention it left him with the cuts and bruises to The medication and potions Pomfrey provided, as bad as they tasted, helped somewhat with that. So he still snatched the vial to get some of the concoction down before he pulled back to respond.Â
"Thank you, Wormtail. Iâm going to take rough looking as a compliment."Â
Peter snorted with laughter at Remus' reply. In truth, Peter didn't think that his fellow marauder looked as bad as he usually did after an episode, but he knew that Remus was always hard on himself after his time of the month. "As you should!" Peter said through muffled laughs. As soon as Peter's laughter had settled, he looked at Moony with curious eyes. "What's the excuse this time?"Â
Determined to get a midnight snack, Peter shrunk himself into the smallest of rats and began making his way down the darkened corridor that led toward the kitchen. He knew the consequences his actions would bring, but the rumbling sounds of his stomach made the decision for him.
It seemed as though he would make it to the kitchen without being spotted until he saw a pair of shoes, the size of two mountains, coming his way.Â
The castle seems a little different than what I remember...
"Well without you the mood of the school became kind of.... dark." Peter raised a hand to pat Dirk on the back. "We all missed you, huffie."
